Hi everybody,

I went yesterday at Ian Luff Motivation fist driving course. It is called Drive to Survive. It was pretty good considering everything they spoke about there I never heard before. It is much more different than what your instructor thought you when you learn to drive.

There was a series of exercises which teach you how to stop your car in en emergency. Maybe this will save you from a major crash, save your precious SKYLINE or eventually your life (if you put any price on it) First course is $285.00 and if you book it on the web you get $10.00 off

After this I am going to the next, stage 2 which teach you to deal with car slipping. Would be good to do this in a controlled environment without the big BANG. Maybe when in such situation on the road you know what to do.

Stage 3, Performance driving will also give you a CAMS license. You can jump form stage one to stage 3 but stage one is a must!!!!

Here everybody the link http://www.ianluff.com.au/index.asp?pageid=1 , go check it out.

Cheers,

EUG.

i did stage 1 and 2 about a year and a half back, and they are well worth it! a lot of fun too.

stage 2 is the better one though. all about understeer and oversteer.

just a note, best not to wash your car before you go, it get covered in dirty water from all the sliding around in the skid pan

Yeah I did the Luff courses years ago, they are a great into to track and performance driving....

I wish more people would put aside a day to learn from the professionals instead of just hitting the track and wondering why they aren't going quickly enough....

If you are interested in more formal training, Peter Findlay's race courses are the best ones in NSW, he is very strict and formal about his training where Luff (and McGill) are a bit more friendly.

Ive heard very good things about the Ian Luff Courses, so i mite give them a try sometime.

Ive done 2 driving courses, the first one i did was with Sideways Action, i thought that it was very good, teaches u all about oversteer and understeer and car control on the Eastern Creek Skidpan, pity it wasnt in my skyline since i didnt have it at the time.

And the other one i did was the Peter Finlay Car Control Course, which i didnt like very much. I did this in my skyline close to when i first got it. Pretty much the whole day we did just simple manovours and And did a little wet braking, which was just a little water sprayed onto the road. At the time i was keep to see what it was like losing control of the skyline in a controlled environment, but they didnt allow it. I dont think i took as much experience or knowledge from that day that i should have.

Hi people,

Today I have done stage 2...WOOOOW what an experience, it felt like a Tokyo Drift in my world. You should try it... it is not that easy and you do not realize how hard it is until you try. I think I will keep going back util I run out of money,,ehehheheheh,,,what the money is good for anyhow.

Cheers,

EUG.

yes. stage 3....just I have to have a day off..which is pretty hard with my work. But Is worth it...I think I hoe tis moth will be done. In worst scenario...next month....

Thanks Chris for your input.

    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
    • Ive converted a few clusters for the R33 with 320km/h dials. On the back there are some pads which can be bridged or unbridged (using solder or wick braid) to calibrate it. There is one bridge which is for MPH <> KPH; and there are combinations of bridges to offset it. There is probably a diagram  For example; this is my conversion for a 180km/h dial to a 320km/h dial (I put custom GT-R dials on it with the GTS25t layout) If you have J2 soldered (assuming the S clusters have a similar config to the R clusters); you may need to remove that solder
    • Back on topic 😉, these are some of the notable pages from the booklets that are supplied with each weekly parts update. I never knew the BNR32 test mule car had an S13 Silvia front end... *Edit: On closer inspection the test car still had the R32 body, but only the front end had Silvia panels etc.
