I am sooooo.... impressive with the strength of the R32 and nissan.

Yesterday. While waiting to join traffic on a free left corner in surfers with foot on the brakes, (4 red stove lights shining) I was smacked from behind really hard. Car hopped forward.

He was driving a Toyota Corolla mid eighties model.

His damage: front headlights and fog lights cracked. Bumper pushed in. Radiator water leaking. front guards pushed up and bonnet pushed in as well,

My R32: Bumper cut by glass and pushed out of shape that has locked the boot :( tow handles paint removed and the muffler had glass in it as well. also front bumper came slightly loose due to impact.

Me: recovering from Migraine prior to accident and whiplash. Neck been killing me from impact.

Now insurance is happy to fix once they get my excess from this guy.

I am worried since I have a pod filter and a Blitz bov. DO I need to worry about these items. My car is a personal import as well and has lower regulations then a normal vehicle but unsure whether insurance will not look kindly to this

Sounds exactly like an incident that i was involved in only i wasnt hit that hard, impact didnt damage tail lights, rear guards, or boot but did require repair to subframe spare wheel recess etc. Still was only minor repar and ins co. had no prob fixing my car which had exhaust (that was also damaged) wheels, stereo, steering wheel, BOV, etc which wasnt noted on my policy as i was a little lazy in updating them with my mods.

Still they didnt give me any dramas, hell they even paid $1300 for my replacement HKS exhaust that wasnt noted on my policy.

I always wondered if the insurance party of the other person who hit you is liable to compensate you for damaged aftermarket items not noted on your insurance policy. After all, even if the claim did go through your insurer, isnt the final claim on the counter party's insurance? (They should compensate you for anything then)

Perhaps someone with more experience with the insurance industry can shed more light on this?

don't even touch your insurance.

just ring their insurance company and get a claim number off them... You may have to wait until the other party lodges a claim though.

After you have a claim number, just take it to a repairer of your choice, and give them the claim number you got off the other person's insurance company and they'll take care of the rest.

Easy as pie, and not one cent out of pocket.

Sorry Merli, before the accident i speak of above occured i would have agreed with you. These days i have changed my tune a little.

I think it depends on the circumstances. With me it was a 6 car pile up on a freeway exit, i was one from the front so was the least damaged vehicle. (minor damage, the vehicle in front of me was a light commercial and only reason it damaged the front of my car was that it had a tow bar hanging from it.)

I didnt contact my insurer as i didnt see any reason to involve them, but as big business goes i was given the run around by the at fault drivers insurance company. My car sat in the panel shop for three months (thankfully i was OS for most this time) while the assessor stuffed around with repair values.

In the end i rang my insurer and told them the details of the acident, 3 days later repairs started and 2 weeks later i had my car back.

Hell you pay your premium every year, so let them run around and then recover costs. This experience tells me if you front the at fault insurer they wont take you seriously and give you the run around in the hope that if you are not insured you will go away.

The big problem I have going thru your insurance is twofold.

The insurance company I used to be with sorta held it against me that someone I was a contributing factor to this guy hitting me. Let's just say this 'not at fault' accident was something thrown back at me later... why do they have to know? It's nothing to do with them.

I was given a payout by the other guy's insurance company. It was a bit more than what I would consider fair recompense because of 'pain and suffering' etc.

I'm sure if I claimed thru my own comprehensive they would have absorbed that extra payout and the car would have to go thru their admitted shithouse repairer.

No one wants to see an insurance company coming out ahead.

T.

    • Take the value it measured as, and pick the closest range available that is above the reading on the screen.   Also, no point just testing the coils. Read what has been said again. You need to test all your wiring, everything.
    • Does the scanner do all the CUs in the car, or only the ECU?
    • @666DAN sorry to bring you and old thread.     I've got my de+t done and it's all running great other than 1 small issue.    Car has remained auto with the na auto and tcm, I've used a stagea ecu with. NIstune board and everything is great other than my gear selection on the dash. It illuminates park, reverse, neutral, 3rd and 2nd when selected . But nothing when in  drive or what gear your in when you pop it into tiptronic. I'm sure there is maybe 1 wire in the ecu plug I need to move to rectify this. Do ya have any ideas?     Cheers man
    • Well I recently changed my rear axles and was thinking if I bumped anything, I have been driving the car for a while now though... But it has been raining today so everything is wet under the wheel arches. Brakes feel fine and can't hear any of the metal screamers, I had a squeak coming from one of the handbrake drums but that seems to have gone away a while ago. I was going down a hill when it lit up and I did feel the abs bite for a second and question why it did it?
    • Correct. Um. I dunno. I haven't cared enough about the way that the NA cars work to know for sure. But..... The 33/34 turbo manual cars have an electronic speed sensor in the gearbox that outputs a +/- (ie, sawtooth AC) voltage signal. That is connected to the speedo. The speedo then outputs a 0-5v square wave (ie, PWM) signal that the ECU (and any other CU on the bus) sees. The speed sensor is NOT directly connected to the ECU. So here's the problem. Your new ECU expects to see the PWM signal, but must somehow be getting a direct signal from the diff speed sensor. Which would suggest that the wiring of the NA car is not the same as the turbo cars. I think you will need to spend some time with (hopefully the wiring diagram for the car) and a multimeter to see what is connected to what. Then, presuming I am correct**, you would then want to separate the ECU speed signal input from the rest of the car's wiring, and probably either buy a speed signal converter, or build one using an arduino (or similar). That would take in the speed sensor signal and output a scaled (and suitably rearranged) signal for the ECU. ** We shouldn't presume that I am correct here, because there might be something else crazy going on. I don't think you could convert the speedo to be fed from the gearbox sensor, because the pulse rate from that sensor is probably different to the diff sensor and then the speedo would read wrongly. And this also wouldn't fix the ECU's problem either, because the ECU doesn't want to see the gearbox signal direct either (assuming that they are all on the same wiring, for some odd NA related reason, see above caveat!) Does this help? Probably not. Can you make it work? Almost certainly. With the above work. You should buy a handheld oscilloscope from Aliexpress so that you can view these signals directly. Connect up the probes and drive the car. Show photos of the screen when drving at known speeds and connected to different places, and we'll see what we can learn about it.
