Hey boys n girls im going to be having a look a 95 model skyline which has the series 2 front bar and bonet.

My question is, is there a way to tell a series 1 from a series 2 other than just looking at the bumpers and bonets as in is there a plate or something which would have a different code for a series 1 to a series 2?

cheers

Hi,

without having the vin checked, you can usually tell the difference by things such as the interior trim of the seats are different from series 1 to series 2. The panel on the rear boot that says "skyline" is colour coded on the series 2. The rear spoiler is a little higher and squared off on the series 2. And my series 2 has driver and passenger airbags- however im not sure if this was standard or an option.. Hope this helps a little.

The series one has no airbags either, the series 1.5 has drivers side airbag and the series 2 has both driver and passenger airbags which ShylineR33 already pointed out. There's a heap more differences between them but if I want to know what series Skyline it is I just go straight for the airbags.

ok sweet well this guy reckons its got dual air bags, the upgraded ecu and the interior trim is different too but its still a late 95. How would it have all the bits and pieces of the series 2 but still be made in 95. i didnt even know there was a series 1.5. Is that just a series one with series 2 bits ?

so im now fairly confused lol

I wouldnt its easy to change dashs around and im pretty sure on the site ive seen a series 1 with a series 2 dash. The best way to check is put up the VIN number on the Fast thread and it will reveal all.

Series 1.5 had the series 2 motor series 2 wing Drivers airbag but everything else was series 1, Hence the reason why on this site people call them a 1.5.

Isn't the steering wheel for the Series 2 the same as the Type-X steering wheel? They look similar from memory.

Looks the same as most Nissan cars of that age, Late model S14, N15 series II and so on .

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
