Hi guys. I have just fitted a turbosmart boost tee (the new blue 1) to my 32 GTST. Lag in 1st gear is not too bad but in 2nd it takes about 5 seconds to hit full boost. This is probly getting close to 4500-5000 rpm. Is this normal on boost tee's? Other mods are 3" turboback, FMIC, BOV & pod filter. I have been running 10 psi with no probs & have now upped to app. 13-14 psi.

Come on. Does any1 have any ideas? My mate & his brother both have S13 silvia's with boost tee's. My mate experiences the same lag problem that I do in 2nd gear while his brothers car runs fine but has a tuned ECU. Does this suggest that an ECU remap would fix the problem?

Had the same problem with my old turbosmart one, worked great for about half a year and then started doing what you described, took for ever to get boost in second after shifting from first. Replaced the turbosmart one with a GFB boost controller, problem solved.

Basically the turbosmart ones are no good. I bought one for over $100 bucks and when you changes gears the lag would be really bad. There was no boost and it was all have to build again. Was really really noticable as you would be hammering in first then shiftt to 2nd (quickly) and the car would feel real flat, and then slowly build. The turbosmart ones don't allow for air to escape between the actuator and the controller. Keeping the air in the line during gear shifts causes the wastegate to stay open hence you loose all you boost and have to build it up again - bad design. I bought a turbotech as a replacement but still found it laggy till i drilled a hole in it. (some come with the hole others don't dunno why). HAve a look at the turbotech thread + search for turbocmart bleed and you'll find the answers. :)

Would drilling out the restrictor in the turbosmart valve help? What size do you go with the turbotech items?

I drilled a 1mm hole in my turbotech one, 1.5 prob would have worked fine as well. The turbosmart ones have a different setup to the turbotech which is ball and spring. With the turbotech you wind the top in for more boost and with the turbosmart you wind it out for more boost as i believe the turbosmart ones are a bleedvalve type of setup. Due to this i am not sure how you could successfully modify the turbosmart tee to make it work efficently. Prob better off just buying a turbotech, sucks i know, but at least the turbotech's are cheap.

cheers

sorry to hijack but my turbotech one doesnt come with a hole, should i drill a 1mm hole in the body of it like this picture has one

Just drill it directly opposite the barb running to the wastegate. So yeh like the pic.

i drilled a hole, what a difference. before it felt like there was something holding me back between gear changes (sort of like i changed from 3rd to 2nd and compression was slowing me down) and generally i had to accelerate more than would expect to keep up with traffic but now the car seems to roll easily after gear changes and boost is straight back up

YAY

so back to the topic, yes it can be a laggy boost tee

lol

I had a turbotech ball valve one installed (no hole :P) was noticing some lag on changes. I have just installed a Greddy Profec B SpecII and it's a world of difference! being able to keep the wastegate shut till almost full boost makes a hell of a difference! :P

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
