If you are after an exhaust that will last the longest then stainless steel is the best as mild steel will rust after a while due to the condensation in the exhaust.

The best way to go is to go and see an exhaust shop. I have seen a few good results from City exhaust, and Roadway and they are cheap compared to one quote from a certain "EXHAUST shop" in mitchell(which we wont name. Wink") which was over double the price of every other shop.

Tell them that you want it to be legal noise DB and the best flowing and they will be able to make one for your purpose(make sure you get it in writing that it is within specs and that way if you get pulled over and fined you can put it back on them to fix it.

By law you can not have any adjustable devices on your exhaust like butterfly's or adj tips so steer clear if you want it legal.

For catylytic convertors go for a metal substrate style as they will last the longest and flow the best use one that is the same size

as your exhaust or larger and for sizing of the exhaust go for 3 1/2" and make sure the pipe straight of the turbo flares up from the turbo size directly into the size exhaust you are getting as once the exhaust gas leaves the turbo it cools very rapidly and the gas expands, in doing so the gas slows down in speed so by going bigger it will keep the air speed up.

Hope this helps

What kind of prices would i be looking at for a basic no-name, stainless steel, straight 3.5" catback exhaust from an exhaust shop and how much is the difference in price between name brands and no-name brands, is the markup on name brands (HKS, Trust etc) similar to markups on shoes and clothes (paying for the name)? Also is there any real performance/quality difference in the two?

You will usually pay more for the name brands as they are made for Jap market so they are a direct fit due to most people want to fit them themselves because workshops are very dear on labour. Most good exhaust shops can make an exhaust to make the same power and last as long as the name brand stuff and you will probably pay between $600 and $1000 depending on what material you use and what cat

Hey Guys,

Sorry for bringing up an old thread again but had a few questions that related to this.

Im looking at a Trust PE2 for my (mostly stock,) r33 GTS-T and was wondering:

a) what do people that currently run a pe2 think?... is the sound ok? ie not droning whole time

b) anyone live over the border (QBN) have trouble with rego?

cheers

Max

No idea on the actual exhaust, but you should be right if you haven't got a PFC/Boost Controller, reasonably sized wheels and the stock airbox on it.

Jayce lives that side of the border, so he might be able to clarify a bit better.

Just make sure it passes for noise,AND get it engineered if you're concerned about being yanked at a later date. Check the lowest point is higher than 100mm off the ground(any parts on the car really, but a new exhaust is easy to have this go wrong)-the NSW boys are big on anything lower than legal...

My plan is Power FC and cat back without the boost resticter (already gone). I was going to go Trust PEII I think it is, cause it is quiet. However I really don't want a cannon, I would much prefer the stock look of simple twin pipes. Aside from the $1100 stainless exhaust from Unique I think it is, does anyone have any suggestions? My criteria is little drone, decent flow and not much over the limit and of course no cannons preferably :P

ETA: Not that I dislike the look of cannons (certainly not the case - quite the opposite on the right cars), just prefer to be as subtle as possible for attention reasons :action-smiley-069:

Yep still in the market for an exhaust but still not able to decide between HKS HP and the Trust PEII, could someone possibly record what their PEII sounds like on idle and higher rpm, could only find 1 clip of it on youtube while the HKS high power has a fair few.

PEII on 34 GTT -

HKS HP on 33 GTST -

HKS HP on 34 GTT (flame :P) -

HKS 34 GTT High Power silent -

Any comments on the sounds of both? Would the HKS be over the legal dB limits? Swaying towards the HKS but all depends on legality, cant really afford a defect :action-smiley-069:

Also Faith R33, what are trojan charging for the trust kits without installation

I think Trojan may be charging $880 for both fitted at the moment... not sure. The HKS one is quite a bit louder I have been told, not legal. The Trust one would probably not be legal but closer to the mark.

I think I am going to buy recce's XForce and have a system made up using that. Will come out cheap in mild steel, now to find a good resonator...

hmm 880 including fitted is pretty good, most places are charging $800-900 for the product alone. So the HKS is definitely not legal while the trust is might be. Any idea how long the special is on for, might have to give them a call :P

Yeah give em a call. Certainly don't take my word as gospel though :P That is cheap so big chance I may be wrong! It is a special though.

Bakes, you been getting my SMS'? Are you ignoring me? Is it me? Why? I can change..!

I've been offered an HKS dual exhaust (apprently hard to find) for $800... that's all the specs that I got off the guy. It's possibly/most likely used. Would there be a difference in performance between the 4" HKS that Trojan are offering for $949 (fitted)?

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
