Well i confirmed today that my rb20 is on its way out

low compression and it needs a rebuild

i bought the car from Japanese Sports Auto in preston

i do have warenty but i have a few mods that i will need to get rid of otherwise warenty will not cover it

what to do?

i wanna run heaps more power if i go the rebuild

im even thinkin engine upgrade but not sure what to go for?

my warrenty allows your choice of mechanic to do your warrenty work

so i could get them to start rebuild and pay a bit extra to do engine work in the mean time

I really dont know what to do the car still runs ok now so i have time to make the big decision

what would you guys do i need suggestions

rebuild rb20 forge pistions ect ect ect / rb25 / rb30 ????

i already have big turbo and bolt on parts manifold ect for rb20

dont really wanna buy all new stuff again? i dont even know what fits to other engines if i chande it?

help?

jsa will make the matter worse unfortunately.. They sold you a car which isnt in the best nick..

Find yourself an Rb25det motor and box setup slap it in (make sure its in good condition) and off you go..

na jsa dont have really anything to do with it now its a seperate company warrenty issue

rb25 you recon is best option?

I know how these warranties work.

They get your workshop to check the problem and if it is related to wear ant tear you have to wear the costs yourself.

If something has broken...then they will fix that problem only ...supplying the parts to your mechanic and only wearing the cost

of the labour to fit it....

In your situation...this is wear and tear...and you should of had a compression test done when you bought the thing.

This way you would have known if you had caused the problem yourself from the modes you have added.

Anyhow.....wait until it goes and then get a transplant....that is your cheapest option...

Why fix something that ain't broken.

Re-build etc ....will cost u big time, especially if you are looking for big power.

RB25 transplant...is the better option...

Cheers

jsa would only give you that piece of mind.. do you think they will cover you for a rebuild?

I rekon go your own way, make contacts with a reputable workshop, let them give you advice etc...

But yeah id dump in a rb25det with all the goodies along with a rb25det gearbox...

ok yeah probably do that then

it wasnt cause of mods cause i only just did em the reason i found out

is because thepower output was low for what i had

i will see if warenty will cover it because it does have in warenty alot of stuff upto $4000 on engine parts

pistons rings ect ect the list is long

gotta know the background of it.. i baught a second hand rb25det last week for 1,500. The guy told me who built it, i spoke to him and yeah i know the background. Alot of importers will sell you older engines etc its just a gamble..

i dont know man dont really want another gamble i lost last time lol

i think i will tell the warenty ppl that the ring are screwed ect at least get them to pay labour of opening he up and stuff then rebuild with what i want

id like the rb25 or rb30 though

yeah i probably could do that i need to know whats involved with fitting an rb30 i think it needs engineer certificate?

whateva i do i will probably do a little bit of engine work like forgies but im reaaly not sure on how hard/cost whats best

i probably want 300rwkw but if i stay with the rb20 i want at least 250 260 rwkw im making 217rwkw now with screwed engine

i dont know what to do dont wanna spend too much but if i do it i ant it done properly so i dont have to ever again

i am keeping this car forever anyway

to fit the rb30 in you wont need engineers... no one on sau does it.. so who cares..

it should fit straight in, then ull need to fit the 25 head on (its not a straight bolt on, requires mucking around) there is a thread on it.

no, a 25/30 will not bolt right into an R32. at least it will but your bonnet will not shut. there is clearance issues due to the extra block height on the rb30 block.

you need to modify your engine mounts to make it sit lower

cheers

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
