I'm looking to get the Autowatch 456RLi installed on my 33, i like this one because it has a built in turbo timer.

-does it come with a 2-stage shock sensor?

-does it come with ultrasonics, or how much extra would these cost?

-can ultrasonics be installed such that they cannot be seen?

Do Autowatch make a remote-start module for this alarm? I dont want to remote-start my car, just wondering if they make one compatible...

-yes

-no - option $75-100

- no. must be visible.

- see the 288 - you lose the timer though.

Get it, it rocks.

If you're in Sydney, hit up "security in motion" (registered here). They did my install, and i'm a fan of the stealthy job!

At the time of booking, I asked about a solanoid in the boot for a remote release. $70 and he wired that in quite nicely with the alarm.

My only gripes you might want to keep in mind:

I recommended the same alarm to a friend with the same car, and both our remotes were weak as anything. Mine stopped 2 months later, and I just bought new batteries from JayCar. Now it works 100% and from around 50m away. The installer stuffed around for 30 minutes trying to get better reception via the antenna wire. Same story from my friends install. So.. change batteries if this happens.

Secondly... the siren isn't all that loud. You can have a conversation next to your car while it's going off. I park right next to my house (carport) and can hear the damn cat running around, so it's not a problem with the soft siren... but perhaps ask about any kind of db ratings, or whether they have other sirens that can be installed.

Apart from that, I love it.

Thanks Randy, how much did you pay for your install?

Thats the 456 alarm + boot solenoid + installation ?

Chris - i had an ultrasonic sensor in my old Calais. It hid underneath the plastic console, just near the gear shifter - was told it worked through plastic, but not metal. It detected movement inside the car, and a second stage also detected movement close to the outside of the windows.

Is this ultrasonics, or microwave?

The dual stage microwave sensors are no longer available thru Autowatch, however we do use a Dynamco one with no problems.

The 288 RLI has now been discontinued, as remote start is illegal in Australia and the company doesnt wanna carry the burden of incorrectly installed Autowatch remote start alarms.

An ultrasonics sensor doesnt get hidden away, the control module does yes, but the two little eyelets which emit the ultrasonic beam have to go somewhere around the A pillar area facing towards the rear of the vehicle.

Also I have been fitting Autowatch for years now, and have never had an issue with the antenna on the module, nor have i had a problem with a remote. Thats not to say that it wont happen because no product is faultless, but it hasnt happened up to now.

All sirens have to be 120db rated any louder and it is not legal to have in your car. The only siren you can use with the 456 is the keyless digital battery back up siren.

The 160RLI has a slightly bigger siren but the volume is pretty much similar.

I can not recommend Leon from Security in Motion, Sydney enough.

I got him to install an alarm in my car as well as the add ons such as auto window roll up, auto headlights, boot release etc.

VERY VERY professional and unlike a lot of people he pays attention to detail.

I am a very satisfied customer.

Cheers Leon

I got him to install an alarm and seperate immobiliser in my car as well as the add ons such as auto window roll up, auto headlights, boot release etc.

Can you share how much your alarm+install cost?

I'd like to use my alarm to do as much as possible, eg boot release + window roll up, and would hope that the installer would give me the options of what can be done with that particular alarm.

I'm half way through the install of my auto watch 456rli atm Leon at security in motion is also doing mine and a great job so far everything hidden very well as the dash is still out and most of the interior, Mine is getting auto window closure ,interior lights on at entry, turbo timer, keypad .

Still has to complete as needed more of the car reassembled be for he could finish the job but so far very happy with service,he should be able to finish the job in the next week or so price for mine was eight seventy for everything

cheers Peter

Sorry, Trav.. been busy.

$570 all up. $70 for the solanoid and hookup. I asked for the 4-button remote, but I think that's standard on the 456 Premier? (the one I got)

Yes... that's right, it was Leon from Security In Motion who did mine a couple of years ago.

It's Australian insurance approved, and you get a certificate and all that for your insurance co.

Leon from Security In Motion

I can't recommend him enough either. He's a perfectionist in what he does, spent 10-15 mins stuffing around with the antenna to try and get the range just right (it was fine). When he was demoing it and it didn't do quite what he expected with the boot release he went "ah that'll give you the shits, but I know how to fix it" and wired an extra relay in, sorted.

Like the others say - very professional, and lots of attention to detail.

Kinks, did you get the Autowatch 456? How much was your alarm+install?

Leon certainly has a great reputation, but i'm in Adelaide so unfortunatly cant use his services!

    • I thought Australia got rid of the "drag dodgy fuel up to 91 RON with ethanol", which is why all E10 advertise as "up to 94 RON" ? Anyway I put E10/91 in the missus' Mazda because she empties the tank weekly, when all my cars get 98RON. tl;dr - turbo - 98 RON, if you can't afford that, sell it and get a commuter car (or tune your car for 91, which no one does).
    • Yeah i found that alot of parts can be wrong or "very" hard to get the real right one. I already bought some brakes years ago on me "old" GT calipers and they were wrong too 😄  I told them too. Even send them pictures...but they said "EBC catalogue has them on my car... So i dont know what their answer will be. I call monday them and let them know that they are really not on my car. If they were they would be already on a car...
    • Welcome to Skyline ownership. Yes, it is entirely possible parts websites get things wrong. There's a whole world of inaccuracies out there when it comes to R34 stuff (and probably 33 and 32). Lots of things that are 'just bolt on, entirely interchangable' aren't. Even between S1 and S2 R34's. Yes they have a GTT item supposedly being 296mm. This is incorrect. I would call whoever you got them from and return them and let them know the GTT actually uses 310mm rotors. Depending on where you got them from your experience and success will obviously vary.
    • Hi...a bit a "development" on the brakes. I spoke to the guys where i get brakes from...and they are saying that 296mm EBC are for R34 GT-T. I then went to their site: https://www.ebcbrakes.com/vehicle/uk-row/NISSAN/Skyline (R34)/ and search for my car(R34 GT 1998 - it has GTT brakes) and it show me this USR1229 number and they are rly 296mm rotors... So now iam rly confused... The rotors i have now on the car are 310mm asi shown... So where is the problem? Does the whole EBC got it wrong or my calipers are just...idk know what?
    • Oh What the hell, I used to get a "are you sure you want to reply, this thread is XX months old" message. Maybe a software update remove that. My bad.
