i'm starting to look into weahter or not i can rego the HR30, what i've come up against so far is DOTARS dont have it listed so it is either not legal or imported before 1989 ??

i can't get any help from Qld transport without going through freedom of infomation as to weather or not the car has been rego'd before, i bought it 5 years ago without the intension of putting it on the road... unlikely to find the old owner to get the old rego #, i'm out of options???

anyone know what paperwork was required for cars imported pre 1989?

getting the work for compliance is no issue but not worth it if i can't get it rego'd?

Help!!

Maybe a bit dis-honest, but say you bought it interstate as a 15 year old import, and have misplaced the paperwork. Worked for me, I never received all the papers with my car, but I just pointed out the obvious things that had been done (new seatbelts, fuel filler neck etc.), and the dude was like, yeah that's cool....

    • Sorry for typo - it’s a VQ37 engine not VQ36.
    • On a 260RS? Don't they have Macpherson struts at the front like a Silvia? In which case, no, not 2 ball joints at the front. Only the lower one. (Unless when you say 2, you mean one on the left and one on the right, not 2 at each corner of the car). Skyline front suspension has a balljoint at the bottom of the upright (outer end of LCA) and a "kingpin" type upper bearing in the top of the upright. No upper balljoint either. The details of what happens above that differ between R32 and the R33/4. I think you should look at some pictures of the rear suspension (or just go take a wheel off your own car) and see what looks like it might or might not be a ball joint there. The situation at the rear is somewhat similar to the front. Lower ball joint and the motion at the top is taken care of by the bushes in the arms.
