WogsRus
hi recently i notice on cold start, there will be a puff, a very small one,not one you will see unless looking at the exhaust pipe. No it only does this when cold, a puff, and that's it, unless you give it a boot fool when cold, and then maybe another puff. Now the turbo has had a hard life, and i am wandering if it is that in anyway, or something starting to let go. It hasn't used any oil and i only noticed it since i put the synthetic stuff in it. Commpression is good, no leak down yet. Car runs strong andso forht. HKS99
i wouldnt worry to much if its just on cold starts. however, could also be turbo seals, valve steam seals or piston rings. have been told best way to check is to, pull off your intercooler pipping and check for oil. If there is oil then it will be your turbo if not then its your rings. also check your dipstick to make sure your levels are correct and you havint over filled. can also get a compression and cylinder leakage test, that will let you know straight away. WogsRus
thanks guys. Yeah i will pul the pipes off to have a look. I know when I tested the compretion 2 weeks ago it was all good. Will do a leak down and so forht. Showed my old man, who is a bit of a car buff, and he reconed it was nothing, it could be th oil in it, as it is very thin, and synthetic, FUCHS oil. I followed the car behind, and did not see any clods of smoke out of the car while running hot, but the oil is a bit high, propably 3-5 mmover full line. OOPPPSSS. Didn't spot this before. SECURITY
small puff of smoke on cold start is usually valve stem seals. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/163536-a-very-small-puff-of-blue-smoke-on-start/#findComment-3034600 Share on other sites

WogsRus
by a small puff, i mean you can't see it unless looking at the tail pipe. And if you flog it dead cold, not a thing to do anyway, you will see a white/blue smoke behind for a second or so. Not a massive plume, just enough to notice. I think it might be turbo seals leaking a bit. OK STOP WARYING ABOUT IT. GOT IT. LOL. MANWHORE
Don't worry about it. It could be the turbo how you're running 15 psi on it Small puff = no worry. When the puff turns into a cloud of white smoke behind you when you're driving, then worry Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/163536-a-very-small-puff-of-blue-smoke-on-start/#findComment-3035335 Share on other sites
SECURITY
i dont see how blue smoke in any case, big or small, isnt something to worry about. if your valve stem seals are shot then it'll only get worse. make sure it is your turbo before writing off the stem seals. Stel
The puff of "white smoke" on cold starts could also just be condensation in the exhaust. Maybe nothing to worry about, especially now that were heading into winter Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/163536-a-very-small-puff-of-blue-smoke-on-start/#findComment-3035524 Share on other sites
WogsRus
oh well if it is the valve seals, loks like i get to build my 500HP motor. LOL. Yeah at the momenti amnot really warried about it, it mainly started when i got the new thinner synthetic oil in it, will try different bra and type next chan, approx 1k away. She has definetly not used any oil over the past 4K kliks, so so far it's all good. HKS99
well if you get to build your 500hp motor, then your better off letting it get worse haha Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/163536-a-very-small-puff-of-blue-smoke-on-start/#findComment-3035582 Share on other sites
