abu
i don't think you would want your core powder coated - maybe the pipes, but that stuff is a bit thick. much thicker than spray paint or anodizing that's for sure. powder coat is tough for a reason.i had mine painted by a radiator shop for $20 bucks. Looks fine to me although it's a little bit glossier than i was expecting. I've seen intercooler cores powder-coated on twin turbo LS1 motors, running well over 240rwkw without an issue! Some of them running 11sec passes at the track, and also being street driven, daily. Dont think it would be an issue! It is quiet thick, but when exposed to air they to cool quiet well.. Abo Bob
That doesn't sound like much power from a twin turbo LS1. Maybe it is a problem? Anyway, I asked this question a while ago. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...c=54462&hl= Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/165007-painting-cooler-black-piping-any-special-methods/page/2/#findComment-3314777 Share on other sites

Car ended up doing a flat 11sec pass with a slipping clutch. Will check out the link! abu
FORD XR6 turbo come out of factory with black powder coated FMIC. There stock intercoolers are fairly small, but are good to flow between 270 -300rwkw, and has been proven by many! APS also powder coat most of there intercooler black, along with many other workshops with big HP cars. Craved
powdercoating can be applied as thin or as thick (up to about 3mm) as you like. the thinner the coating the rougher the finish it, but on a satin finished intercooler you could get away with a lighter coating.
