I'm running V70As. Come and have a chat on Thursday if you're coming to Paul's track day.

Won't be running on Thurs. The car is minus gearbox, suspension, rear hubs and tyres at the moment. Expecting various parts back Tues or Wed.

I was going to run DZ03Gs but can only get 255s for the rear. I understand the V70As are available in 275 40 17 and are cheaper than the Dunlops. What compound are yours...H,M or S. I'm looking at the Hard, want them to last the Qld 500 + a few sprint meets.

If I can get away I might come out on Thurs anyway for a chat

Cheers Jay

Great wet tyre, but going by my own experience with these (medium compound) in tarmac rallies, I think they might struggle on a circuit with a full weight Skyline with a few HP. Note they are also extremely pressure sensitive, and seem to like a lower cold starting pressure than usual.

Although in their defence, once cycled a couple of times they do toughen up a little. I'm not certain they'd offer more dry grip than an 03 or even 02 Dunlop, although I'd back them on a wet track.

Cheers

I second the comment about pressures. The first set of laps I did last time out it seemed to struggle quite a bit with traction. I actually upped the pressure for the second set of laps as they were a little low and it was way better. I'm guessing there was more heat in the tyres as well which would have helped.

Mine are medium compound (or possibly hard, I'll have to check) from memory which was recommended to me because it is a heavy car and the left side cops a hammering at QR. I think I've done 3 track days on these tyres and I'm not seeing any noticeable wear.

I have run D01Js but they were second hand so probably not a fair comparison. I find the V70As better in terms of traction particularly through turns 1 and 2. The price difference certainly makes the V70As a much more attractive proposition.

Willo where did you get your tyres from, I was a bit surprised at the price, I can get DZo3Gs for pretty much the same and that includes 9 free laps at QR to scrub them in..

Thanks for your comments.

Hornibrook Motorsport, ask for Craig. They are a Kumho distributor so they may be able to do better prices.

Keep in mind mine are 265/35/18 so the price difference might be smaller for a smaller tyre.

    • UPDATE: Yes the GSP Axles are compatible. I installed it on my R34 today and they are working a treat! Turns out that the S13, S14, S15, and 200 SX all used the same axles as the HR34, and ER34 NA models. Which is 2 bolt x 3 pairs.
    • Also build this EH ute with 370z motor and gearbox with a couple of turbos just for fun.
    • Got the passenger door on plus the master cylinder and booster. Loaded up to take it home. At home, the colour changes a lot in the light.
    • Nothing cheap, but I have seen the AC Hydraulic DK13HLQ which is pretty close to what you're asking for. The problem is the hydraulic cylinder mandates that the back of the jack be a certain height and Skylines have fairly deep inset floor jack points. A more certain and cheap option is to get some nominal 2x10 inch lumber boards and have one board be 1.5 feet, the other board 3 feet. Glue it all together with lots of clamps to maintain pressure. Make two of these. The ramp suggested above is a good idea, it takes quite a bit of clutch slip to get over each of the boards. I only need the first ~1.5 inches for my low profile jack on a standard ride height car but a lowered car you want to go up to the full ~3-3.5 inches. Paint it or store indoors if you want it to last.
    • Ok. And Nistune? I read (here too) mainly on Stagea threads that it can by "turn off" with Nistune. But they say they still had the sensor plug in. Next week iam going to the Nistune(and other ECUs) tuner so i can finally make it work. I drove the car home and apart from the cut it drove great. No misfire no smoke no hesitation or rough start...so hoping it is this sensor that is missing
