I got mine replaced with bog-standard Nissan Maxima wheel bearings, they're interchangable apparantly. Cost something around $200-250 for the bearings and about $100 for labor (they spent hours trying to get the old bearings out, as the bearings had fused with the casing...much swearing was involved, along with a big hammer)

I'm not sure what kind of sound stuffed bearings make. The noise mine makes increases with speed and sounds like really bad tire drone (but isn't). At 40kmh its barely audible, it gets really noticable at 80kmh+. This sound like bearings to anyone?

It all started after the rear right wheel had an unfortunate meeting with a curb, so could be driveshaft or bearings.

So do Maxima bearings fit front AND rear? Does anyone know?

Shell, your car has done over 100 k km yeah? My mechanic mate reckons they should be done then.

Prolly get mine done soon-ish ( 57 k km) I've got alot of tyre noise but lately I've been wondering if the bearings are noisy. No grinding sounds though :confused:

yep Dino my car's got 120,000 on it poor old girl :O

I'll ask the guys about the bearings when I get her serviced then.

Gradenko, that tyre drone noise sounds similar to my noise. It kinda pulsates though, louder, quieter, louder, quieter....etc. It's hardly noticable though, and some days i don't hear it at all.

Yeah, that sounds like what mine is doing - a pulsating drone that varies with speed. I find that its a lot more noticable with the windows up and driving on smooth roads, which is pretty much due to lower background noise.

I'm having it looked at on Wednesday, so I'll be able to get back with whether its the bearings or if I busted a driveshaft.

red900ss, I'll find out on Wednesday about Maxima bearings being used as replacements.

Well, my problem is definantly rear wheel bearing related. Mechanic said that rear wheel bearings cannot be replaced as something in the hub is bent if they start acting up (I probably got the explanation wrong). So no, Maxima parts are going to be no use for rear wheel bearings. From what I understand, rear wheel bearings were never meant to be a servicable part and they only start making noise after a hard impact.

He also said that it won't affect handling (as its a rear wheel) and that theres no reason to fix it... as long as I can live with the bloody drone! So yeah, I get to save some money and leave it as it is, but will be on the lookout for a 2nd hand hub (at the right price) all the same.

hahaha 120,000k's and you think its old... mine has done 190,000k's and its running fine..

I've got a similar drone from around 70km/h to 80km/h but then it goes.

Rear wheel bearing you think or maybe fron? My passenger side front makes a bit of noise when you spin the wheel when car is off the ground, I havent checked the rear as yet?

It's a bit annoying because it's the speed driven at the most

I didnt think it was a bearing because its only at that small range of speeds and doesnt get noisier when you go round corners...

Some are midas are good some bad. my dad put his van in to one. They replaced the rear brake shoes but couldnt adjust the park brake so it worked. My dad went back with it and they mucked around for an hour or so without fixing it - and with a van time is money couldnt afford for them to stuff around.

I was hoping to get info off other here.

If I jack the rear of the car and put it in 4th and get to 70km/h with wheels off the ground I should hear a dodgy rear wheel bearing right.

I checked my fronts and the passenger one is a lot more free and makes more noise than the drivers side one when I spin the wheel.

      I wanted to try and preserve the front bumper as long as possible, they're not cheap and are made to order in Japan. Taking inspiration from my previous K11 Micra build where I made an undertray for the Impul bumper, I did the same for this BN Sports bumper but a little slimmed down.  This time round I only made a 'skid plate' (if that's the correct wording/term) for just the bumper surface area, the Micra version covered the gap like an undertray. Starting off with a sheet of mild steel approx. 0.9mm thick 4ft x 2ft in size. I traced around the bumper, cut it out and cleaned the edges. Luckily I was able to get two halves from one piece of metal In the video I installed it as is, but I've since then I've removed it to spray and add a rubber edging trim. The rubber trim is suitable for 1-2mm and it's a really nice tight fit. The bolts had to be loosened due to the plates being too tight against the bumper, the trim wouldn't push on I used some stainless M6 flat headed bolts for a flusher finish (rather than hex heads poking down), I believe this style fastener is used for furniture too incase you struggle to source some. The corner's are a little wider, but this may be an advantage incase I get close to bumping it  The front grill got some attention, finally getting round to repairing it. Upon removal one fixing pulled itself out of the plastic frame, one side is M8 that fixes inside of the frame, where as the other side is M5. Not knowing I could get replacements, I cut down an M8 bolt, threaded it inside the frame along with a decent amount of JB Weld.  The mesh was replaced to match the bumper. One hole on the bonnet/hood had to be drilled out to 8mm to accommodate the new stud, once the glue had set it could be refitted. I think the reason the grill was double meshed was to hide the horn/bonnet latch (which makes sense) but I much prefer it matching the bumper Bumper refitted and it's looking much better IMO The Youtube video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVZP35io9MA

      The video for the servicing and fuel filter change can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uLJ65pmQt44 One of the main jobs I wanted to do before the car officially went on the road, was to remove the awful looking blue silicone hoses. There's nothing wrong with having coloured silicone hoses, but I realise as I'm getting older I prefer monotone engine bays with a splash of colour on the engine cover(s). I cover this in a lot more detail in the Youtube video, so unfortunately there's limited photos of the process. The intercooler, upper radiator, boost vacuum and upper breather hoses were all changed to black silicone with mikalor clamps. The only blue left is a blanking cap at the back of the inlet manifold and the GReddy pulleys (which will be replaced for stock when the cambelt gets replaced) While the intercooler pipes were off I gave them a quick clean/polish too A before photo I do have a replacement air filter on its way.
