I don't know why but Newcastle seems to attrack big disasters. Who remembers the earthquake back in the late 80's (I think). I was swimming in the beach at the time only to realise patients of the hospital being pushed down the hill on their beds, abit puzzled I asked mum why only to find out an earthquake just occurred.

Absolutely crazy

I heard about the train accident at wondabyne. Aparrently there was a landslide that pushed rocks onto the tracks which the train hit and the first carriage derailed slightly as you said. They moved everyone to the last four carriages and then disconnected those carriages from the front. The rear carriges went to hornsby where apparently there were buses waiting. No more trains could get through obviously.

yea i was on the train after it... was speaking to some people that were on the train that had derailed.

As much as i dispise cityrail and all the shonkiness that happens with them (i have had my fair share of bad experiences) I have to congratulate them on how well they handled this and how quickly they organised buses. I didnt get a bus until around 9, that was by choice... they advised everyone over to the RSL for warmth and comfort. I stayed there for a few beers to let the rush go then got a bus that wasnt so packed.

all this weather is a little surreal... I hope some of all this water is getting where we need it.

yea i remember that! lets just hope there is no serious injuries/damage!

everyone got their cars inside and safe? :P

Luckily I got the gtr to safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure if it has hail damage or not yet - have been flooded in and only just got power back in the last hour. Although from when i dropped it off it looked 'ok'.

I saw a car float into a shop window and smash it earlie, 3 cars down storm water drains/canals.

Looks like it might come back for a second go too!

Hope the gtr survives another night!!

I only just got home then. We had no power, no phones (landlines or mobiles) and no water! We have been camping at the parentals place, they have gas hot water so at least I could shower even if it was in the dark.

I've seen some bullshit things since Thursday, there is just shit everywhere........cars in the middle of the road just left floating, cars in creeks with mud and shit to the top of the roof, trees in peoples houses etc etc.

Hopefully everyone and their cars are all ok and safe!

Well that is where all the rivers end up Dave.

They all join onto the harbour at some point.

The Lake has risen since Thursday!

There are houses that look like they're in the middle of the lake at Marks Point!

No you didn't. If you were in 1.5m deep water, you'd not be able to see out the windows, and if it was in a torrent of water, you would have been washed away.

I'll agree with the over estimate.

But there were definitely massive torrents of water around.

I drove through on the was up to my front grill, so almost a metre deep.

And there are pics of those cars on the net somewhere.

We actually saw them being craned out yesterday arvo.

    • Hi, SteveL Thank you very much for your reply, you seem to be the only person on the net who has come up with a definitive answer for which I am grateful. The "Leak" was more by way of wet bubbles when the pedal was depressed hard by a buddy while trying to gey a decent pedal when bleeding the system having fitted the rebuilt BM50 back in the car, which now makes perfect sense. A bit of a shame having just rebuilt my BM50, I did not touch the proportioning valve side of things, the BM50 was leaking from the primary piston seal and fluid was running down the the Brake booster hence the need to rebuild, I had never noticed any fluid leaking from that hole previously it only started when I refitted it to the car. The brake lines in the photo are "Kunifer" which is a Copper/Nickel alloy brake pipe, but are only the ones I use to bench bleed Master cylinders, they are perfectly legal to use on vehicles here in the UK, however the lines on the car are PVF coated steel. Thanks again for clearing this up for me, a purchase of a new BMC appears to be on the cards, I have been looking at various options in case my BM50 was not repairable and have looked at the HFM BM57 which I understand is manufactured in Australia.
    • Well the install is officially done. Filled with fluid and bled it today, but didn't get a chance to take it on a test drive. I'll throw some final pics of the lines and whatnot but you can definitely install a DMAX rack in an R33 with pretty minor mods. I think the only other thing I had to do that isn't documented here is grind a bit of the larger banjo fitting to get it to clear since the banjos are grouped much tighter on the DMAX rack. Also the dust boots from a R33 do not fit either fyi, so if you end up doing this install for whatever reason you'll need to grab those too. One caveat with buying the S15 dust boots however is that the clamps are too small to fit on the R33 inner tie rod since they're much thicker so keep the old clamps around. The boots also twist a bit when adjusting toe but it's not a big deal. No issues or leaks so far, steering feels good and it looks like there's a bit more lock now than I had before. Getting an alignment on Saturday so I'll see how it feels then but seems like it'll be good to go
    • I don't get in here much anymore but I can help you with this.   The hole is a vent (air relief) for the brake proportioning valve, which is built into the master cylinder.    The bad news is that if brake fluid is leaking from that hole then it's getting past the proportioning valve seals.   The really bad news is that no spare parts are available for the proportioning valve either from Nissan or after market.     It's a bit of a PITA getting the proportioning valve out of the master cylinder body anyway but, fortunately, leaks from that area are rare in my experience. BTW, if those are copper (as such) brake lines you should get rid of them.    Bundy (steel) tube is a far better choice (and legal  in Australia - if that's where you are).
