(strathfield or jb hi fi will be my best friends in this department)

i have about 800 bucks i wanna spend on speakers & installations into a skyline r33 series 2

i have about 500 bucks i wanna spend on a head unit a couple of months down the track (there is already a new one installed)

whats the best set up that i should be looking at for about this price. and i would like to try (if possible) have enough boot space for a school bag.

the head unit is up to you for that price they are all pretty much the same. i have a series 2 r33 with pioneer 4 way 6inch door speakers ($200) that run off the head unit, and a 12inch 600w sub also pioneer ($300 in box) that is powered by a kenwood 2 channel 400w bridged amp ($400). this produces excellent quallity sound and more than enough volume for me.

if you do buy from strathfield or jb dont let the sales person talk you in to buying a dodgy brand, i suggest you stick with the big ones, i.e. sony pioneer kenwood, although they are not top of the line but they are big brand names and you can expect a high level of quality for your price range.

try to keep every thing in proportion, no sense in having a 1000w sub with a 200w amp

also you will have to allow about $200 for installation unless you can do it yourself. (its really not that hard)

thank you very much for the tips.

i think i am willing to splash out a little more on the speakers & installation to get a really good sounding system. your set up sounds nice.

i know i could probably follow a tutorial and do it myself but if i stuffed something up id never forgive myself.

hows the space in your boot?

does 800 bucks include amp and sub?

or just speakers?

So 500 for headunit: Some of the new pionneer ones are pretty good!! check them out..

Cable: Audison Connection / Scosche / Stinger

Deadening: Dynamat / Scosche / Stinger

Pick and choose!!!

coz to be honest, they will all sound great..

As for me:

I went with:

Alpine headunit ($500)

Hertz 165s spilts front ($320-350)

hertz coxials rear($200)

Audison srx3 amp(400 i think) - -not bough yet.. soon in 2 weeks

Hertz sub 12inch (350-450) --- not bought yet.. soon in 2 weeks

Think thats more than your budget already.. :worship:

My setup is Fronts (JL Audio TR-650CSi) and sub (SWS-1222D) running off an alpine MRP-F450 amp, sub is bridged.

I have some old cheap 6" pioneers for the rear running off the deck for fill. These don't need to be too flash, some don't even run them, so you can do without them until you have more money.

I have sound deadened my front doors which seemed to help with the mid bass of the fronts and cut out some road noise.

Amp is mounted above the fuel tank and sub is in a fiberglassed box.

If you have a newish deck installed but want another one, best to sell it now to get the most you can for it and buy another one.

Buy some items like the ones sid suggested.

I'd buy a deck, splits, sub, amp, and wiring. You can do sound deadening later if you like.

In my opinion, go to a dedicated car audio store and see what they have to say and listen to some of the gear their. I went to Stylyn Car Audio in Moorabbin and I won't be going to JB or strathfield for car stereo gear again. See what you can get for your budget from each store though and make your decision based on that. You want to try and listen to the speakers and sub that you would be installing playing the music you listen to. I found that I definitely wanted a 12" and not a 10" that way.

Alpine (not sure of other brands) are just bringing out their new models if I'm not mistaken which means you could probably pick up a decent deck for a low price. This could mean some speakers are being replaced too?

So maybe, and these are just rough.

Headunit ($400-500)

Spilts front ($200-350)

Amp (250-400)

Sub 12inch (200-400) may buy a box seperate or together.

Wiring and fuse ($100)

Installation will cost a bit and will depend on the store.

You may need to do it in stages. Don't get carried away and say this is all I can afford at the moment and then buy some things you're not completely happy with. If you decide to do it in stages then maybe you can start reading up on how to do some of the stuff yourself and save on installation costs.

You can find some great info here:

I leave the rambling there, Good Luck

dont pay for installation. to install a head unit, amp, sub and speakers(including wiring) is rather easy in skylines. i spent about 6 hours roughly to install my amp in the boot, sub in the back seat, my 6x9's on my parcel shelf and 6" in the doors. that includes running the wires from the back of the head unit all the way long the trim into the boot. biggest bitch i found was getting the power wire going from the engine bay through the firewall through into the cabin.

with that in mind, i roughly spent 1500 all up for my system and i must say, is a kickass system that for what i payed, is outclassing and outsounding other similar systems;

Clarion head unit - $500

Cadence 5 channel amp - $500

Cadence 12" sub in Cadence marked ported box - $200

Cadence 6x9 350w - $150

Cadence 6' 240w - $100

ive read good reviews about cadence and i didnt wanna turn to apline/clarion/kenwood as everyone else has their bits and peices. wanted to try something new. the amp i have runs all speakers and sub to max and theres still room to play. beautiful system...

JB hifi is the way to go mate. very good prices and have all the good stuff. just do your research. dont put money away for installation, because its a waste of money. once you do it yourself, you will never look back. and im sure there are a lot of members on here who would happily help install over a day(hell i would for a slab of Coopers Pale Ale).

space in my boot? errrr my sub dont even fit in my boot! its on my back seat. the amp is mounted in the boot nonetheless and theres plenty of room. R33's have bigger room than R32's, so you should have heaps..

Way to go champ.

Now imagine while ur on a track day and ur more than pushing ridiculous speeds with ur car and all of a sudden you come to a crashing halt JUST FOR EXAMPLE. How much do you think that subbox weighs at a sudden dead stop from a vehicle travelling 60km only?

Well i guess you wouldnt know the physics behind it, but neverthless i would seriously love it if you could install my subs in the back seat of my Supra for a slab of Pale ale because i know i cant do a better job.

haha Adelaide; that town says it all...

all adelaide has done for australia is shown that Tasmanian ppl can swim lol think about it :domokun:

i dont do "ridiculous" speeds my friend. i rarely drive it as i have my daily car. i can see where your coming from but its a bit hard to phsyically fit the box in the boot. im working on it though, thanks for asking............ knob

and if i was to install the subs, i would put them in the boot, no where else.. box is secured to the seat.... box is situated behind my seat.

i was in the same boat as you, same car, even similar amount of money.

this is what i did

got a pioneer double din head unit from ebay, $410 RRP $800

http://www.pioneer.com.au/products/car_ent...amp;broadband=1

speakers i just got randomly because they were marked down. i didnt intend to keep everything pioneer

6x9's $150 RRP $260

splits $250 RRP $350

installation at garys car radio was $70 for head deck and $230 for front and back speakers/tweeters custom spacers and whole car rewired.

next on the list is a 4 channel amp/amp kit/sub amp/install

as you can see shit gets out of hand very quickly. i would recommend getting a good head deck and a pair of splits installed, after that go for some 6 inches on the back parcel shelf and then 4 channel amp/sound deadening.

i had a go at installing this stuff myself but it was hard and not worth the effort, especialy having to take out the back seats for the 6x9's. sometimes its ALOT easier and less frustrating to just cut your losses and pay for something to get done right the first time.

for me sound quality isnt that important in my car. i just wanted a head deck that looked cool and something louder then stock. if i wanted superior harmonic bliss i would put on my sennheisers or crank up the jamo's at home.

edit: if you decide to get stuff installed at jb or strathies dont worry they arnt that bad, at least they come with a lifetime warranty no matter how badly they butcher your car.

Really and only a small minded idiot who has never left Melbourne thinks that Melbourne is the be all and end all of all cities in the world.

Perhaps you should ask me where i come from and how far i travelled. As for me being a KNOB, I love keyboard warriors.

as do i, theyre so entertaining

im going to be a total dick and say......

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/02/...5854028808.html

seeing that melbourne is the best city in the world (or one of the best).

and im from manningham which is the most desirable/lowest crime rate/close to everything/rich area, that i live in possibly the best place in the world

*nelson laugh* HAAA-haaa

dont worry im a stunt man i have my flame suit right here

best city to live in cause every one is so laid back and happy...

DO SOME f**kING WORK!

i left my last job cause i was tired of doing all of the Melbourne offices work... i had to fly there a few times a month, everytime i went there the weather was shit, the town was asleep and the workers were way way behind in everything...

They had a larger and more productive set up then the Sydney factory, and they got closed down cause they couldnt make a profit... meanwhile the sydney office makes a few mil every quarter...

the only thing i liked is your roads, but who gives a shit, i had to take a taxi everywhere...

lol the sub is perfect fit to sit on my seat, and ive secured it with an unknown method that i shall keep secret...

Agreed.

People shouldnt be attacked because of which city they live in.

I just tried to state that leaving subboxes unsecured in a car can be deadly in a front on collision even travelling at moderate speeds.

im not attacking you. i have lived all over australia and melbourne suits me. if adelaide suits you, go for it, i still love adelaide to bits, but melbourne will do for the time being.

i see where your coming from with the "un-secured sub box" thing, but that was my first thought as soon as i threw it in.

today i may try to remove the stock amp/shells on the underside of the parcel shelf and fit it in my boot. who knows, might just fit...

keyboard warrior? nah buddy, i just like to give a good point, thats all

its a seatbelt isnt it? its ok... you can tell us :P

PS: your car looks exactly the same as the SAU NSW VPs car... right down to the rims :(

PPS: ignore my rants about melbourne... its a personal vendetta sparked by a shitty job, not a shitty city...

    • I did end up getting it sorted, as GTSBoy said, there was a corroded connection and wire that needed to be replaced. I ended up taking out the light assembly, giving everything a good clean and re-soldered the old joints, and it came out good.
    • Wow, thanks for your help guys 🙏. I really appreciate it. Thanks @Rezz, if i fail finding any new or used, full or partial set of original Stage carpets i will come back to you for sure 😉 Explenation is right there, i just missed it 🤦‍♂️. Thanks for pointing out. @soviet_merlin in the meantime, I received a reply from nengun, and i quote: "Thanks for your message and interest in Nengun. KG4900 is for the full set of floor mats, while KG4911 is only the Driver's Floor Mat. FR, RH means Front Right Hand Side. All the Full Set options are now discontinued. However, the Driver's Floor Mat options are still available according to the latest information available to us. We do not know what the differences would be, but if you only want the one mat, we can certainly see what we can find out for you". Interesting. It seems they still have some "new old stock" that Duncan mentioned 🤔. I wonder if they can provide any photos......And i also just realized that amayama have G4900 sets. I'm tempted too.
    • Any update on this one? did you manage to get it fixed?    i'm having the same issue with my r34 and i believe its to do with the smart entry (keyless) control module but cant be sure without forking out to get a replacement
    • So this being my first contribution to the SAU forums, I'd like to present and show how I had to solve probably one of the most annoying fixes on any car I've owned: replacing a speedometer (or "speedo") sensor on my newly acquired Series 1 Stagea 260RS Autech Version. I'm simply documenting how I went about to fix this issue, and as I understand it is relatively rare to happen to this generation of cars, it is a gigantic PITA so I hope this helps serve as reference to anyone else who may encounter this issue. NOTE: Although I say this is meant for the 260RS, because the gearbox/drivetrain is shared with the R33 GTR with the 5-speed manual, the application should be exactly the same. Background So after driving my new-to-me Stagea for about 1500km, one night while driving home the speedometer and odometer suddenly stopped working. No clunking noise, no indication something was broken, the speedometer would just stop reading anything and the odometer stopped going up. This is a huge worry for me, because my car is relatively low mileage (only 45k km when purchased) so although I plan to own the car for a long time, a mismatched odometer reading would be hugely detrimental to resale should the day come to sell the car. Thankfully this only occurred a mile or two from home so it wasn't extremely significant. Also, the OCD part of me would be extremely irked if the numbers that showed on my dash doesn't match the actual ageing of the car. Diagnosing I had been in communication with the well renown GTR shop in the USA, U.P.garage up near University Point in Washington state. After some back and forth they said it could be one of two things: 1) The speedometer sensor that goes into the transfer case is broken 2) The actual cluster has a component that went kaput. They said this is common in older Nissan gauge clusters and that would indicate a rebuild is necessary. As I tried to figure out if it was problem #1, I resolved problem #2 by sending my cluster over to Relentless Motorsports in Dallas, TX, whom is local to me and does cluster and ECU rebuilds. He is a one man operation who meticulously replaces every chip, resistor, capacitor, and electronic component on the PCB's on a wide variety of classic and modern cars. His specialty is Lexus and Toyota, but he came highly recommended by Erik of U.P.garage since he does the rebuilds for them on GTR clusters.  For those that don't know, on R32 and R33 GTR gearboxes, the speedometer sensor is mounted in the transfer case and is purely an analog mini "generator" (opposite of an alternator essentially). Based on the speed the sensor spins it generates an AC sine wave voltage up to 5V, and sends that via two wires up to the cluster which then interprets it via the speedometer dial. The signal does NOT go to the ECU first, the wiring goes to the cluster first then the ECU after (or so I'm told).  Problems/Roadblocks I first removed the part from the car on the underside of the transfer case (drain your transfer case fluid/ATF first, guess who found out that the hard way?), and noted the transfer case fluid was EXTREMELY black, most likely never changed on my car. When attempting to turn the gears it felt extremely gritty, as if something was binding the shaft from rotating properly. I got absolutely no voltage reading out of the sensor no matter how fast I turned the shaft. After having to reflow the solder on my AFM sensors based on another SAU guide here, I attempted to disassemble the silicone seal on the back of the sensor to see what happened inside the sensor; turns out, it basically disintegrated itself. Wonderful. Not only had the electrical components destroyed themselves, the magnetic portion on what I thought was on the shaft also chipped and was broken. Solution So solution: find a spare part right? Wrong. Nissan has long discontinued the proper sensor part number 32702-21U19, and it is no longer obtainable either through Nissan NSA or Nissan Japan. I was SOL without proper speed or mileage readings unless I figured out a way to replace this sensor. After tons of Googling and searching on SAU, I found that there IS however a sensor that looks almost exactly like the R33/260RS one: a sensor meant for the R33/R34 GTT and GTS-T with the 5 speed manual. The part number was 25010-21U00, and the body, plug, and shaft all looked exactly the same. The gear was different at the end, but knowing the sensor's gear is held on with a circlip, I figured I could just order the part and swap the gears. Cue me ordering a new part from JustJap down in Kirrawee, NSW, then waiting almost 3 weeks for shipping and customs clearing. The part finally arrives and what did I find? The freaking shaft lengths don't match. $&%* I discussed with Erik how to proceed, and figuring that I basically destroyed the sensor trying to get the shaft out of the damaged sensor from my car. we deemed it too dangerous to try and attempt to swap shafts to the correct length. I had to find a local CNC machinist to help me cut and notch down the shaft. After tons of frantic calling on a Friday afternoon, I managed to get hold of someone and he said he'd be able to do it over half a week. I sent him photos and had him take measurements to match not only the correct length and notch fitment, but also a groove to machine out to hold the retentive circlip. And the end result? *chef's kiss* Perfect. Since I didn't have pliers with me when I picked up the items, I tested the old gear and circlip on. Perfect fit. After that it was simply swapping out the plug bracket to the new sensor, mount it on the transfer case, refill with ATF/Nissan Matic Fluid D, then test out function. Thankfully with the rebuilt cluster and the new sensor, both the speedometer and odometer and now working properly!   And there you have it. About 5-6 weeks of headaches wrapped up in a 15 minute photo essay. As I was told it is rare for sensors of this generation to die so dramatically, but you never know what could go wrong with a 25+ year old car. I HOPE that no one else has to go through this problem like I did, so with my take on a solution I hope it helps others who may encounter this issue in the future. For the TL;DR: 1) Sensor breaks. 2) Find a replacement GTT/GTS-T sensor. 3) Find a CNC machinist to have you cut it down to proper specs. 4) Reinstall then pray to the JDM gods.   Hope this guide/story helps anyone else encountering this problem!
