I've been in Docklands, and the place is empty.

nah dude, harbour esp is far from a wasteland... unless your there around 3am

its the road that goes along side the Telstra Dome... i suppose its 40km cos of all the people walking around and going footy and events etc. which is fair enough but for the gov that place is a gold mine. not a blackspot for accidents...

I had a modifyed r32 till a few months ago (r34 now) and it was modifyed. I had no trouble with the police, got pulled over lots of times with out one fine (had the car for 3 years, drove it everyday.) I was nice to them they returned the favour. I will agree some of vics rules are not great but i have moved to WA and see a lot of stupid stuff on the roads more often than in vic and i think this is due to the big fines and strick rules. While the articals at the start of this thread are old (a few years at least) i dont see the point in bringing it up, dont be an idiot on the road and you wont get bent over by the nearest cop.

my 2 c

You dont know what your on about. They can do, whatever they want. and some of them do.

Good on ya spunky for pointing this out, Although alot of us who are awake, do know what is going on, its not hard to see. Its a shame that our governments are such crooks.

Go engineers Certificate ;) I think ill go get one. But I reckon when later on we may see the government issue new legislation allowing police officers to over rule these certificates.

Yes i do know what im on about

And NO the Police CANT NOT impound your car for it being unroadworthy.

The impound laws do not extend that far.

And the police are NOT abusing the power at all.

And further to that, just because well... i understand the laws where clearly some do not

Vehicles can be impounded, immobilised or confiscated if drivers commit any of the following hoon-related offences:

· Improper use of a motor vehicle, where the driver has intentionally caused one or more tyres to lose traction;

· Exceeding the speed limit by 45 kph or more (or travelling at over 145 kph in a 110kph zone);

· Engaging in a race or speed trial; and

· Repeat ‘drive whilst disqualified’ behaviour.

The following will also be considered hoon-related offences if they are committed in circumstances involving the improper use of a motor vehicle:

· Dangerous driving;

· Careless driving;

· Failure to have proper control of the vehicle; and

· Causing a vehicle to make excessive noise or smoke.

So who doesnt know what they are on about eh? ;)

How will it get worse? Its been as it has been now for nearly 18 months.

If you've only just realised, thats fine. But Nobel Maccers was the last nail in what was already quite a large coffin.

Maybe your new to the import world, but all of this (as you can clearly see by the article dates) has been going on for quite some time.

It all became harsh around 2.5 years ago.

hey ash when they say speed trial d'you rekon that they can include acceleration from teh ligt when you arent particularly racing anyone, just boosting to the speed limit for shits and giggles?

Thats a hard one to call, it really is.

If you have a 120db car, bit of a tyre spin off the lights, your likely to be asking for your own trouble really.

If you were driving say... a stock GTS 300kw or something and did it and werent in the demographic of a under 25 male, you'd be fine.

The law isnt perfect in the way its applied. But the way it is... simply put, is the minority who have been misbehaving well above and beyond what they should have

Look, basically the shytes hit the fan... you fellas just wait - it will no doubt get worst.

There are a lot worse things than speeding fines, defects, unfair legislations or police abusing power. and I assure you this shit is not going to get any worse its just the way it works in this country. It will not get any better neither by telling people "shytes hit the fan....just wait.." youre not helping.

why don't you just play by the rules, play it smart and get on with your life.

It's all on the discrestion of the police officer you run into.

When these laws were being discussed by lawmakers a middle aged female suggested that her car could be taken if she was to slightly misjudge a corner in the wet and 'fishtail' somewhat. The reaction of the legislator was 'The police officer would see you're middle aged lady, you woud not have your car confiscated' These laws are designed to take away the modified cars of young men, end of story.

Mate,

That's a fair point... yeah, I am new to the import scene to be honest... so what - you guys have always been hassled by the cops like this? I've had my ride for around 7 months now and I have to say... I am over and under with it... shocked to bits... unbelievable... share some stories, welcome me on board will ya. :yes:

I dont go into my stories, whats done is done. Cant change it over a forum

If im driving a car thats modded illegally, then so be it. I'll wear it.

I've had more EPA's and canaries than you might think :yes:

And as such, ive picked up on little tricks here and there to work tests a bit easier, but thats just life in the defect spotlight

Well... there you have it... :thumbsup:

Tell me something - so you drive a R31 - got pics of your ride? Don't see much R31's around anymore - if you still got one, it must be a special one... :)

I have had an import for about 4 and a half years now. It is highly modifyed and i have had no trouble with the cops. I have been pulled over lots for random breath tests, driven through boose buses and for the first year or so got pulled over because the cop wanted to have a look at the car (that what they said no lie) and half of this time was while i was on my p's. I have even had one of the police vans pull up along side me, open the sliding door and a cop lean out to see if my car was too loud (thank you for a quite exhaust)

Not once have i got a fine for anything, i have vebal had warnings to fix things but thats it and i put this down to me being honest and nice to the police.

If you drive like an idiot on the road you are going to get attention, take the car to the track! :(

As for bring up articles that were put out BEFORE you even had an import there is no point bagging the police for doing there job and trying to insite other imort drivers into negative thinking. Sure you will get good ones and bad ones but thats what happens and there must be a reason you are getting attention from them for what ever reason beacuse i can drive my car in any part of town with out a problem (it has a full 3in exhaust). Just dont bring attention on to your self, take it easy when taking off from the lights dont do silly stuff on the street, if you want to race your mates go to a track day were you can have a good day with out having to worry about police.

I'm from Sydney, so I've got NFI where anything is. I was just driving around looking for photo backdrops.

I think I went past the Telstra Dome (but it was on a Sunday night, but pre-midnight) as well as a few shops and what looked like apartments. There looked to be a restaurant nearby and 2 people standing on the road waiting for someone to pick them up.

Then on the Monday when I took those pics with the 350Z-Tech guys at 9PM, I went past the Hummer store, STi Docklands, and the BMW / MINI showroom. There were a few cars passing through, but aside from that it was a ghost town.

Or on a more affordable end of the scale, any modernish Euro sports car. Its Jap imports that get hassled by the cops - roll around in a modern VW Golf GTi / R32, Polo GTi, RenaultSport Clio, etc with non-AutoSalon-bodykit type mods and you won't get looked at twice.

oh how it must suck to live on the east coast :(

Perth cops are like your best mate compared to the coppers in the East it seems :D

I have been pulled over several times in my R33, external wastegate/limo tint/20" wheels and get off!

I even had a cop tell me my car does not meet emissions requirements as the exhaust has no mufflers or a cat, but he still let me go!

Perhaps our officers are smoking all the evidence they find at other crime scenes.....

    • As discussed in the previous post, the bushes in the 110 needed replacing. I took this opportunity to replace the castor bushes, the front lower control arm, lower the car and get the alignment dialled in with new tyres. I took it down to Alignment Motorsports on the GC to get this work done and also get more out of the Shockworks as I felt like I wasn't getting the full use out of them.  To cut a very long story short, it ended up being the case the passenger side castor arm wouldn't accept the brand new bush as the sleeve had worn badly enough to the point you could push the new bush in by hand and completely through. Trying a pair of TRD bushes didn't fix the issue either (I had originally gone with Hardrace bushes). We needed to urgently source another castor arm, and thankfully this was sourced and the guys at the shop worked on my car until 7pm on a Saturday to get everything done. The car rides a lot nicer now with the suspension dialled in properly. Lowered the car a little as well to suit the lower profile front tyres, and just bring the car down generally. Eternally thankful for the guys down at the shop to get the car sorted, we both pulled big favours from our contacts to get it done on the Saturday.  Also plugged in the new Stedi foglights into the S15, and even from a quick test in the garage I'm keen to see how they look out on the road. I had some concerns about the length of the LED body and whether it'd fit in the foglight housing but it's fine.  I've got a small window coming up next month where I'll likely get a little paint work done on the 110 to remove the rear wing, add a boot wing and roof wing, get the side skirt fixed up and colour match the little panel on the tail lights so that I can install some badges that I've kept in storage. I'm also tempted to put in a new pair of headlights on the 110.  Until then, here's some more pictures from Easter this year.
    • I would put a fuel pressure gauge between the filter and the fuel rail, see if it's maintaining good fuel pressure at idle going up to the point when it stalls. Do you see any strange behavior in commanded fuel leading up to the point when it stalls? You might have to start going through the service manual and doing a long list of sensor tests if it's not the fuel system for whatever reason.
    • Hi,  Just joined the forum so I could share my "fix" of this problem. Might be of use to someone. Had the same hunting at idle issue on my V36 with VQ35HR engine after swapping the engine because the original one got overheated.  While changing the engine I made the mistake of cleaning the throttle bodies and tried all the tricks i could find to do a throttle relearn with no luck. Gave in and took it to a shop and they couldn't sort it. Then took it to my local Nissan dealership and they couldn't get it to idle properly. They said I'd need to replace the throttle bodies and the ecu probably costing more than the car is worth. So I had the idea of replacing the carbon I cleaned out with a thin layer of super glue and it's back to normal idle now. Bit rough but saved the car from the wreckers 🤣
    • After my last update, I went ahead with cleaning and restoring the entire fuel system. This included removing the tank and cleaning it with the Beyond Balistics solution, power washing it multiple times, drying it thoroughly, rinsing with IPA, drying again with heat gun and compressed air. Also, cleaning out the lines, fuel rail, and replacing the fuel pump with an OEM-style one. During the cleaning process, I replaced several hoses - including the breather hose on the fuel tank, which turned out to be the cause of the earlier fuel leak. This is what the old fuel filter looked like: Fuel tank before cleaning: Dirty Fuel Tank.mp4   Fuel tank after cleaning (some staining remains): Clean Fuel Tank.mp4 Both the OEM 270cc and new DeatschWerks 550cc injectors were cleaned professionally by a shop. Before reassembling everything, I tested the fuel flow by running the pump output into a container at the fuel filter location - flow looked good. I then fitted the new fuel filter and reassembled the rest of the system. Fuel Flow Test.mp4 Test 1 - 550cc injectors Ran the new fuel pump with its supplied diagonal strainer (different from OEM’s flat strainer) and my 550cc injectors using the same resized-injector map I had successfully used before. At first, it idled roughly and stalled when I applied throttle. Checked the spark plugs and found that they were fouled with carbon (likely from the earlier overly rich running when the injectors were clogged). After cleaning the plugs, the car started fine. However, it would only idle for 30–60 seconds before stalling, and while driving it would feel like a “fuel cut” after a few seconds - though it wouldn’t fully stall. Test 2 – Strainer swap Suspecting the diagonal strainer might not be reaching the tank bottom, I swapped it for the original flat strainer and filled the tank with ~45L of fuel. The issue persisted exactly the same. Test 3 – OEM injectors To eliminate tuning variables, I reinstalled the OEM 270cc injectors and reverted to the original map. Cleaned the spark plugs again just in-case. The stalling and “fuel cut” still remained.   At this stage, I suspect an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, caused during the cleaning process. This has led me to look into getting Frenchy’s fuel hanger and replacing the unit entirely. TL;DR: Cleaned and restored the fuel system (tank, lines, rail, pump). Tested 550cc injectors with the same resized-injector map as before, but the car stalls at idle and experiences what feels like “fuel cut” after a few seconds of driving. Swapped back to OEM injectors with original map to rule out tuning, but the issue persists. Now suspecting an intermittent power or connection fault at the fuel pump hanger, possibly cause by the cleaning process.
