Meggala,

Exactly what sort of box was in the GTS-T? I assume that it is the same box as the one for a GTR?

SydneyKid, have you used or driven a car with a TRUST gearbox? What exactly are the goo and bad points of the box and how much better is a Hollinger? How and why?

TIA,

Charlie.

it was a trust boox I prefer these for the street as the holinger is a sequencial. and the trust I used was h pattern

btw munro said one of the reasons the trust broke was because of his style of launch once he got that sorted there wouldnt have been that much of an issue.

there is also the peiffezer dunno how to spell it in south australia which is supposed to be good btw did you know the trust box is made by quaife in the uk

cheers

To quote the latest HPI, an article by Martin Donnon,

'It was alwayst the same story: the gers, particularly third gear, losing teeth. Coming towards the dep end of the track, Munor would punch the H-pattern shifter into third ger, and the thing would simply go 'bang'...... The problem was then narrowed down to the trust gearset simply being too small and spindly for he job at hand, a problem clearly identified when we visited Active Garage in Kyushu. These guys had a collection of Trust boxes lined up to swap when the one in the car went bang. I kid you not.'

Went on to say the answer was a Holinger E6S six speed sequential.

If anyone is interested in running a 9 sec GTR, it would be well worth the few dollars to get some back issues (if they dont have them already) - could save thousands, literally.

Footnote: hope Martin Donnon or HPI dont mind me quoting their fine publication?:D

but is munros car a street car?

nx-time said he did want a car he could drive on the street the holinger could make stuff interestig on the street also remember munros car has an os giken rb3.0 l block so masses of torque.

any way here is the trust catalog for transmission . 10 k ro so for one 18-20k for a holinger its your choice.

meggala

all of my suggestions have been because it for street use not out and out drag car.

techincally it wont be legal at all, unless u ran dedicated LPG ull never pass emmisions laws. Plus once u hit 9's u need a full cage etc etc, and i aint too sure if u can make a 9 second cage legal.

Still tho, if its gonna be a drag car, why not the auto. Not only will your times be ALOT more consistant if you ever actually do any bracket racing etc, autos are alot nicer on parts. Someone out there would have to be able to do skyline auto buildups

Thanks for the replies.

Xeron, an auto box has crossed my mind, but I don't know of an auto box that is available for the GTR.

Meggala, I have found a website or two on the TRUST box and read that it is indeed made by Quaife in the UK under licence for TRUST Japan.

Also, the price on that website is the price in Yen from Japan, so any freight costs plus taxes and duties must also be payable, so the price of the TRUST 6 speed (H pattern) will be more like 13K landed.

PS, it's not NX-TIME, it's NXTIME ie next time :P I often get asked about my non-existent Nissan NX ;)

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
