The fuel smell, that my wife was complaining about, is coming from leaking fuel injectors. Taking it to mechanics on Monday.

Anyone know roughly how much these things cost?

heya mate, this is pretty comon with gtr injectors. you just need to replace teh leaking ones. you dont even need to take out the fuel rail to do it.

A full set will cost about $300 or $50 each. have a look in the for sale section. I have had to replace mine before. it's no big drama, just look at the plenum and make sure there are only fuel stains around the 1 you think is leaking.

labour wise if you are not doing it yourself I would estimate 2 hours max. so around 160 for labour and $100 for a couple of injectors.

Anthony, The rail does need to come off, but its like a 10 min job in your garage - seriously

I had the same issue. Your most likely either leaking from the o-ring (rubber seal on top of injector <> rail), insulator (rubber seal between injector <> plenum) or the small plastic molded 'indent' in the side of the yellow plastic on the head of the injector.

Use some brake cleaner and spray where you think the leaks are. Look closely for fuel leakage.

1) If its the injectors themselves, use araldite to plug the indents, don’t be shy.

2) If o-ring / insulators, buy new OEM from Nissan, they're pretty cheap. Many, (inc me) have had after market, non standard seals not … well, seal properly.

Its Lego stuff, let me know if you need a hand o_0

Hey not to hijack the thread but i have a question about fuel pumps and injectors. Next oil change (1,000km away) I was planning on replacing the fuel pump with a bosch 040 but found a trader on the website here selling 044's for around the same price. Anyway was just wondering would the injectors have to be upgraded with the 044 and for the sake of DIY would the 044 be a direct replacement for the pump in an R33.

Also has anyone had anything to do with the website 'Performancelub.com", they have pretty cheap prices on good oils so was thinking about going through them, just looking for some testimonials

Gday Alex,

Depends on your reason for the pump install. Is it because your running out of fuel, or “peace of mind”?

If “peace of mind” replace with what ever pump, check the base fuel pressure, and you away – no need for any other changes.

If have “fuel issues” your fuel flow is sagging under load (read: dropping pressure higher in the revs) then a pump will help you. If your actually running out of injector duty cycle, then you’ll need to get some bigger injectors (and the resulting re-tune that’s required)

As for what pump. A 044 is definitely not a drop in. For the double the price you can get a Tomie or Nismo setup that’s “drop in”

For the 044 you will need to take it somewhere and get the required fittings. Pirteck and Enzed are rarly able to help my friends and I, so recommend “Aus Hose” in Fyshwick.

You should figure out your future fuel requirements, as Walbro with built in one way valve, is easier to install, so im told.

Im in the same boat. Either fit a 044 into tank, or keep it outside with a surge tank.. decisions.

Hope this helps

Peace of mind mainly :) . I've had a look and its the original factory pump so god only knows how old it is, figured if im replacing it i might aswell upgrade to an 044 over an 040 incase in the future i decided to modify the car a bit but if it requires changing fitments then might just go for the 040 instead which is supposed to be a direct replacement.

Cheers for the help

    • Resizing injectors in Nistune can be done a couple of ways, and there are a couple of ways that you can make a mess of it. The tuner needs to be really aware of the effects of whichever approach he uses (either K, or TIM). They are both easy enough to "get the injector size right" to run the engine. But little details like old start enrichment and hot start are affected differently, depending on which boxes you check.
    • Pretty safe to say almost everyone that has tuned their own car has experienced this issue. The difference being that we have our laptop in the car and when it happens, it's literally 10 seconds of tuning to sort it.  Would you be happy to plug in your laptop and sort this yourself? It is a very simple process and there is no risk of harming your engine (if you are worried about that).
    • Yeah thats the next step now, either they wil or i will take out for a drive to work and go straight their after work and see is we get the same issues 🤞  thought i try my luck here too, never know someone else might have had the same issue but thanks for the reply
    • Basically your tuner needs to drive it for the 30 min (or whatever) to create the same conditions then check the ECU settings and sensors at that time. They may not be excited to because that takes them 30 min rather than just opening the bonnet and seeing the problem straight away.... Hot start is generally not as tricky as cold start, but there would be a table for fuel enrichment vs coolant temp as a starting point
    • Yeah, they all cant say anything for sure as everything is working fine . Said unable to find an issue untill it stops again. Could mist likely be CAS wiring or IAS valve issue but again not 100%
