Mike__
Hey guys, give you a rundown on whats happend and just wanted someone to confirm im on the right path...... Initially i lost reverse, a quick read on the forums suggested a $2 spring was the culprit. I purchased the spring and was going to attempt the repair myself but due to limited time i decided to pay a mechanic. A quick call to a local performance shop and all booked in. Told them where the access to the spring was on the LHS side of hte box but they didnt listen and took of a small plate off on hte rhs of the box (told me they had changed one be4??) above the tailshaft. mechanic showed me the piece with a spring exposed saying theres meant to be a captive ball bearing on the end but it looks like its been missing for a while due to the marks on the end of the spring. he decided it was better to leave hte spring out. the reverse lockout spring was then found and replaced Ive since undone the crossmember, lowered the box and put the spring back in but it doesnt seem to have helped much (maybe to a small degree but might just be me). basically you can grab the gear leaver and theres no resistance 3rd to 4th when stationary or rolling along, also comes out of gear easy. Box felt perfect be4. Im thinking when he took the wrong piece of the ball bearing was already dislodged, and removing its stopper has let it fall into the box. Mechanic reckons if its still in there would have fallen to the bottom onto the magnetic drain plug. So for those in the know am i correct in thinking the reverse lockout has nothing to do with this and that captive ball bearing acts as an 'indent' for 3rd to 4th. Can order the parts (new stoppert and ball bearing) in from my local nissan dealer just kind of wanted some1 to confirm for me. any advice much appretiated thanx mike Edited September 3, 2007 by Mike__ Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/183606-r32-gtr-gearbox/ Share on other sites
T04GTR
well chances are the ball bearing is lost. if you put a ball bearing in it you will be fine. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/183606-r32-gtr-gearbox/#findComment-3327421 Share on other sites
wrxhoon
I agree with TO4GTR, replace the ball bearing and she will be fine , thats what holds it in gear.
