there have been 3 sets of GTCs for sale on this forum alone in the last couple of months..2 have been sold ..do a search in the classifieds..

Otherwise, as Wink said, try the ns.com or sau traders who bring in containers of 2nd hand wheels...

I would go Jap built/designed wheels because they're lighter, better quality, in better offsets therefore look better and I can't remember anymore :)

Yeah like Wink and n15m0 have said, check out sau.com's and ns.com's trade section. They always have some wheels for sale.

why spend so much on wheels from jap, when there are wheels from Aus half the price and look pretty decent to...

Besides from quality whats so special about the jap wheels, its not like the wheels from Aus are going to fall apart after 6 months is it?

The majority of the wheels you'll find at Tempe tyres or your average local tyre store are utter shit. Heavy wheels that come in pathetic widths and offsets. Jap wheels are so much better in every way. You'll be able to get lightweight wheels therefore giving you less unsprung weight, giving you better acceleration.

With Jap wheels when buying new, you can order in almost any width and offset you want with some brands. If buying second hand look around and you'll find good widths and offsets. Good offset can make or break the look of the car, so look around for something good.

If you said you're getting a new paint job, it won't be a hassle to roll and lip the guards to fit some nice sized rims under there. I'd be looking for some 9" front with offset between 0 and +20, and rear 10" rims with offset around the +15 mark or so. With some gold Volk's or Work rims in those sizes your car will look PHAT!

thanks, I was about to ask what kind of offset's i should be looking for. Can you go into more detail about offsets, as i have no clue what the diff between a 9x18, and a 9x 20 is. I know the first number is the width, but whats the second, and what does the number with the + mean? could you give me exact offsets to ask for because i dont know whether 9x29 + 25 or 9x18 +20 looks better at all. Another Q, whats the diff between the face 1 and 2 GTC? I couldnt tell by looking at the pics.

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. The offset can be one of three types. Offset is measured in mm (ie, +25, -20)

Zero Offset

The hub mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

Positive

The hub mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars.

Negative

The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

When you 18x9, or 17x10, the first number is not offset. Its the diameter of the wheel and the second number is the width.

Depending on the rims you buy, you mightn't be able to ask for any offset you like. Especially with rims you'll find in Australian tyre stores, they will more than likely only come in poor offsets, such as +37 or +40, thereabouts. Depending on the width of rim you decide on, in most cases it is best to get the lowest possible offset possible, ie a 18x9 rim might come in +40, +34, +28, +15, +10. If I were you with an R33, I would go for the +10 or maybe +15. This will easily fit on the front with the guards rolled and lipped if you don't put too big a tyre on it, no bigger than say a 225.

If for some reason you decided on a smaller width rim such as 18x8 (don't be weak!), you'll be able to get away with a 0 offset or even negative offset (such as -10)

Red S15 has good offset,

Orange 180sx has bad offset.

Look how much better the red S15's wheels fill the guards, looks so much better!

Unless you have massively modified front/rear guards, no way will that fit on a R33 GTS-T.

Unmodified guards you can go something like 8" wide with +35 offset at the front and 9" wide with +30 offset at the rear.

what if the guards have been rolled and lipped, will this fit, front- 18x9 +15, rear- 18x10 +10?

^^^^ If you went these sizes and offsets in 18", these will fit well WITH LIPPING AND FLARING of the guards. Since you plan on to get the car resprayed, this won't be a problem. Will cost no more than $200 to get the whole car done.

These sizes will fit on a S13 no problem IF guards are rolled and lipped, so wouldn't have a problem fitting on a R33 which I assume would have more room under the guards than a S13.

On my S13 I've got 8" wide rims on the front with +10 offset and guards are NOT rolled or lipped, this fits fine with 205 tyres....

What state are you in? If in Vic I know a workshop who specialize in this sort of work who will help you out.

I'm in ACT :S, but go to sydney pretty often, so I'm limited to ACT and NSW workshops.

dont go for those wheels in your first post. extremely shit lookin. like other ppl have said, get yourself some 2nd hand jap jobbies and fix em up. it doesnt cost too much to fix the odd scrape or gutter mark and about the same cash to get a different colour put on. al in all you'll end up with twice the value of tempe tyre's crap while spending not a lot more

Yeah, usually some moderate gutter rash damage can be fixed for about $70 - $100. Don't get 7" wide wheels.

yeah, Ive decided that I'll go with some Gold GTC's, front 18x9 +15, rear 18x10 +10. Would you be able to get the rims any wider with the lipping done on an r33: eg 9.5 and 10.5? do they make wheels in those sizes? or would you be able to go lower in offsets like +5 on the rear?

You can get wheels up to 13" wide on some Jap designed wheels. Not too sure as to whether those sizes and offsets will fit on the 33's though.

    • Hey Dave, welcome aboard! Good to see another soon-to-be Stagea owner here. The wagons are awesome — plenty of space, still got that Skyline DNA, and loads of potential if you’re into mods. Definitely post up pics when you get it, everyone here loves seeing new builds. What model/year are you looking at?
    • See if you can thermal epoxy a heatsink or two onto it?
    • The other problem was one of those "oh shit we are going to die moments". Basically the high spec Q50s have a full electric steering rack, and the povo ones had a regular hydraulic rack with an electric pump.  So couple of laps into session 5 as I came into turn 2 (big run off now, happily), the dash turned into a christmas tree and the steering became super heavy and I went well off. I assumed it was a tyre failure so limped to the pits, but everything was OK. But....the master warning light was still on so I checked the DTCs and saw – C13E6 “Heat Protection”. Yes, that bloody steering rack computer sitting where the oil cooler should be has its own sensors and error logic, and decided I was using the steering wheel too much. I really appreciated the helpful information in the manual (my bold) POSSIBLE CAUSE • Continuing the overloading steering (Sports driving in the circuit etc,) “DATA MONITOR” >> “C/M TEMPERATURE”. The rise of steering force motor internal temperature caused the protection function to operate. This is not a system malfunction. INSPECTION END So, basically the electric motor in the steering rack got to 150c, and it decided to shut down without warning for my safety. Didn't feel safe. Short term I'll see if I can duct some air to that motor (the engine bay is sealed pretty tight). Long term, depending on how often this happens, I'll look into swapping the povo spec electric/hydraulic rack in. While the rack should be fine the power supply to the pump will be a pain and might be best to deal with it when I add a PDM.
    • And finally, 2 problems I really need to sort.  Firstly as Matt said the auto trans is not happy as it gets hot - I couldn't log the temps but the gauge showed 90o. On the first day I took it out back in Feb, because the coolant was getting hot I never got to any auto trans issues; but on this day by late session 3 and then really clearly in 4 and 5 as it got hotter it just would not shift up. You can hear the issue really clearly at 12:55 and 16:20 on the vid. So the good news is, literally this week Ecutek finally released tuning for the jatco 7 speed. I'll have a chat to Racebox and see what they can do electrically to keep it cooler and to get the gears, if anything. That will likely take some R&D and can only really happen on track as it never gets even warm with road use. I've also picked up some eye wateringly expensive Redline D6 ATF to try, it had the highest viscosity I could find at 100o so we will see if that helps (just waiting for some oil pan gaskets so I can change it properly). If neither of those work I need to remove the coolant/trans interwarmer and the radiator cooler and go to an external cooler....somewhere.....(goodbye washer reservoir?), and if that fails give up on this mad idea and wait for Nissan to release the manual 400R
    • So, what else.... Power. I don't know what it is making because I haven't done a post tune dyno run yet; I will when I get a chance. It was 240rwkw dead stock. Conclusion from the day....it does not need a single kw more until I sort some other stuff. It comes on so hard that I could hear the twin N1 turbos on the R32 crying, and I just can't use what it has around a tight track with the current setup. Brakes. They are perfect. Hit them hard all day and they never felt like having an issue; you can see in the video we were making ground on much lighter cars on better tyres under brakes. They are standard (red sport) calipers, standard size discs in DBA5000 2 piece, Winmax pads and Motul RBF600 fluid, all from Matty at Racebrakes Sydney. Keeping in mind the car is more powerful than my R32 and weighs 1780, he clearly knows his shit. Suspension. This is one of the first areas I need to change. It has electronically controlled dampers from factory, but everything is just way too soft for track work even on the hardest setting (it is nice when hustling on country roads though). In particular it rolls into oversteer mid corner and pitches too much under hard braking so it becomes unstable eg in the turn 1 kink I need to brake early, turn through the kink then brake again so I don't pirouette like an AE86. I need to get some decent shocks with matched springs and sway bars ASAP, even if it is just a v1 setup until I work out a proper race/rally setup later. Tyres. I am running Yoko A052 in 235/45/18 all round, because that was what I could get in approximately the right height on wheels I had in the shed (Rays/Nismo 18x8 off the old Leaf actually!). As track tyres they are pretty poor; I note GTSBoy recently posted a porker comparo video including them where they were about the same as AD09.....that is nothing like a top line track tyre. I'll start getting that sorted but realistically I should get proper sized wheels first (likely 9.5 +38 front and 11 +55 at the rear, so a custom order, and I can't rotate them like the R32), then work out what the best tyre option is. BTW on that, Targa Tas had gone to road tyres instead of semi slicks now so that is a whole other world of choices to sort. Diff. This is the other thing that urgently needs to be addressed. It left massive 1s out of the fish hook all day, even when I was trying not too (you can also hear it reving on the video, and see the RPM rising too fast compared to speed in the data). It has an open diff that Infiniti optimistically called a B-LSD for "Brake Limited Slip Diff". It does good straight line standing start 11s but it is woeful on the track. Nismo seem to make a 2 way for it.
