2nd Chance Cruise/bbq To The Gold Coast

Recommended Posts

Time to update this thread as the date is getting closer. seen as mark ruined the suprise this is whats happening, were going to see the GLOWWORMS up at mt Springbrook. Nice drive up the mountain, losta room to spread the backend of the cars out (no drifting allowed) haha and yea a really nice view wen we get to the caves. the glowworms are a natural phenomenon in the caves up ther that do what their names suggest, they glow in the dark and light the cave up at night.

HERES THE PLAN

Brisbane cruisers:

Meeting at myer car park-hyperdome at 2.30 to leave at 2.45

Head down the highway to meet the coasties at mudgee sporting grounds(next to the skate park).

Gold Coasters:

meet up at the mudgee sporting grounds(next to the skate park) around 3 and by 3.15 the brissy boys should arrive

From there we will head to a bbq area and have a bbq. After that we will head to the bottom of the mountain and climb it.

get up the mountain, maybe stop along the way for group fotos, park up and then head to the highLIGHT of the cruise.

Afterwards we could go for coffee sumwhere maybe in surfers or just cruise back up to brissy. wont be too late, its gettin dark at like 7ish these days so should be back down the mountain by 7.45 which would have the brissy guys home before 9pm for bedtime lol.

items essential:-

cb radios

petrol

some food for the bbq

a torch

warm clothes and shoes, no thongs or singlets lol.

rugs incase the tables and chairs are covered in bird poo.

I think iv covered everything. if not let me know. really wana make a good day outa this, unlike the last one.

Ok this is a second chance cruise after the failure of the Mt Cootha cruise last month. Me and Mark have been out and about scouting out good spots for a cruise and we think we have finally found one.

We are hoping to avoid the problems we encountered last time including people getting lost in high traffic areas and police involvement scaring people off. To avoid certain people finding out where we are guna be im guna post more details in pm's to people who show genuine interest.

The destination is an amazing site, i have not been myself yet but have wanted to go for ages, the misses has been and so has mark (hopefully not together!) and they both reckon its pretty amazing. Due to the nature of the destination the cruise will be an afternoon/evening cruise so the bbq will be "dinner". Depending on what people would like to do we can head to the destination early and spend the day up there or we could leave it till later on in the avo to get there.

The destination is up a rather hilly area, similar to the drive up mt cootha so for u windy road people you should feel right at home. At the top there are bbq facilities and plenty of parking space. its on the gold coast so for brissy boys u will need a full tank of fuel to begin the day with.

would love to keep it skylines only but i dont see the point in not having others there so invite ur friends the more the merrier.

also it would be nice if a few peeps could help out with food (depending on how many want to come that is)

HERES THE PLAN

Brisbane cruisers:

Probably meeting at myer car park-hyperdome at 2.30 to leave at 2.45

Head down the highway to meet the coasties at hungry jacks

Gold Coasters:

meet up at hungry jacks, mudgereba around 3 and wait for brissy boys

(A visit to the spit could also be organised before we meet at hungry's for those "spit regulars")

From there we will head to the bottom of the mountain and climb it.

get up the mountain, meet and greet, maybe stop along the way for group fotos,

set up and have some dinner in the form of a bbq, then wen it gets dark we will head further up the mountain.

Afterwards we could go for coffee sumwhere maybe in surfers or just cruise back up to brissy. wont be too late, its gettin dark at like 7ish these days so should be back down the mountain by 7.45 which would have the brissy guys home before 9pm for bedtime lol.

the trip is 65-70kms down ther its not much hardly anything.. (ill bring a bunch of tools for the skyrines for when they break ) the roads are a better surface than nebo and are quite a nice set of corners. it is well worth it. what u will see in the caves is Glow worms. something u wont see in the city. this will practically be a nature themed sau meet.. i personally think it will be good to stretch the legs and some of queenslands natural Beauty upclose. its not often u get to experience our great natural backyard breathe cool fresh air and why not with a bunch of friends and members with a BBQ.

BBQ facilities from memory are 50m from the carpark at natural arche. and the caves and waterfalls are a 500m walk.

or we can have the BBQ in surfers. head to the spit have a cruisey arvo at goldcoast and those wanting to go up the mountain afterwards can :)

due to having the event with such short notice we are prepared to reshedule if the date doesnt suit people im sure we will be able to sort it out and adapt to suit the majority..

post up interest :):) hope to get over a dozen coming down and sticking with us.

My mobile number is 0400 793 618 if u need to contact me.

    • Cheers. Skyline is back on the menu, can’t get rid of it. It’s like a child you don’t want, or herpes
    • I got back to Japan in January and was keen to get back on track as quickly as possible. Europe is god-awful for track accessibility (by comparison), so I picked up a first-gen GT86 in December just to have something I could jump into right away. The Skyline came over in a container this time and landed in early January. It was a bit battered after Europe, though—I refused to do anything beyond essential upkeep while it was over there. The clutch master cylinder gave out, and so did the power steering. I didn’t even bother changing the oil; it was the same stuff that went in just before I left Japan the first time. Naughty. Power steering parts would’ve cost double with shipping and taxes, so knowing I’d be heading back to Japan, I just postponed it and powered through the arm workout. It took a solid three months to get the car back on the road. Registration was a nightmare this time around. There were a bunch of BS fees to navigate, and sourcing parts was a headache. I needed stock seats for shaken, mistakenly blew 34k JPY on some ENR34 seats—which, of course, didn’t fit—then ended up having the car’s technical sheet amended to register it as a two-seater with the Brides. Then there’s the GT86. Amazing car. Does everything I want it to do. Parts are cheap, easy to find, and I don’t care what anyone says—it’s super rewarding to drive. I’ve done a few basic mods: diff ratio, coilovers, discs, pads, seat, etc. It already had a new exhaust manifold and the 180kph limiter removed, so I assume it’s running some kind of map. I’ve just been thrashing it at the track non-stop—mostly Fuji Speedway now, since I need something with higher speed after all that autobahn time. The wheels on the R34 always pissed me off—too big, and it was a nightmare getting tires to fit properly under the arches. So I threw in the towel and bought something that fits better. Looks way cleaner too (at least to me)—less hotboy, less attention-seeking. Still an R34, though. Now for future plans. There are a few things still outstanding with the car. First up, the rear subframe needs an overhaul—that’s priority one. Next, I need to figure out an engine rebuild plan. No timeline yet, but I want to keep it economical—not cutting corners, just not throwing tens of thousands at a mechanic I can barely communicate with. And finally, paint. Plus a bit of tidying up here and there.
    • Nope, needed to clearance under the bar a little with a heat gun, a 1/2" extension as the "clearancer", and big hammer, I was aware of this from the onset, they fit a 2.0 with this intake no problems, but, the 2.5 is around 15mm taller than a 2.0, so "clearancing" was required  It "just" touched when test fitting, now, I have about 10mm of clearance  You cannot see where it was done, and so far, there's no contact when giving it the beans Happy days
    • It's been a while since I've updated this thread. The last year (and some) has been very hectic. In the second-half of 2024 I took the R34 on a trip through Germany, Italy, France and Switzerland - it was f*cking great. I got a little annoyed with the attention the car was getting around Europe and really didn't drive it that much. I could barely work on the car since I was living in an inner-city apartment (with underground parking). During the trip, the car lost power steering in France - split hose - and I ended up driving around 4,000kms with no power steering.  There were a few Nurburgring trips here and there, but in total the R34 amassed just shy of 7,000kms on European roads. Long story short, I broke up with the reason I was transferred to Europe for and requested to be moved back to Japan. The E90, loved it. It was a sunk cost of around EUR 10,000 and I sold it to a friend for EUR 1,500 just to get rid of it quickly. Trust me, moving countries f*cking sucks and I could not be bothered to be as methodical as I was the first time around.
