Rb30 With Rb25det Vct Head

Hi all, i have just recently inhereited an RB30E and ive started my first mod which is an RB25DET head with VCT. I intend to turbo this combination upon completion.

I have just got my modified head (TIG welded were necessary) according to turorials on the internet. After a trip to the machine shop to get the head decked iam ready to bolt it on however before i do iam unsure of 2 things:

If i tap into the VCT oil gallery and provide it with oil (from the oil pressure sender lets say) will the VCT system work if i run the appropriate ECU?

Or if i decide i dont want VCT can i just keep the oil gallery blocked off?

I couldnt really find any specific info on this matter and I want to make absolutely sure before i start drilling holes in things : )

PS anybody doing a similar project and is interested in pics of the welds i will gladly share them
