Hey,

Well, here's the problem I'm having with my R33 GTST at the moment, I had coolant spilling out of the overfill tank for a couple of days, however the coolant levels and running temp of the car was fine, it wasn't overheating at all just normal running temp.

I however, took the car to a radiator specialist and spoke to someone there about it, he said that the radiator cap needed replacing (even though I replaced it about 4-5mts ago). He also said that it wasn't sealing properly.

He also went on to say, best bet is to get a 16 pound radiator cap or replace it with a genuine Nissan one, which I will do tomorrow.

Nissan sell them for $21 and a 16 pound one from Autobarn is $50.

Anyhow, while the car was parked at work today there was a puddle of coolant on the passenger side of the car, it was really weird being dark I couldn't see where it was leaking from so I toped it up drove it home and it was alright.

Though, I'll have to have a look at it tomorrow when there's some more light, just wanted people advice/help on what things I should look out for, thanks.

Stock cap. High pressure radiator caps should NOT be used on a factory plastic radiator.

In the event there is too much pressure, rather than the cap blow, it will shatter your radiator to pieces and cause a mighty mess :whistling:

Factory all the way

Yeah, I was never planning to buy the 16 pound one, just the genuine Nissan one.

Do you think that could be the only problem though? What else should I check for tomorrow?

Thanks R31Nismoid,

If the overflow isnt leaking, and the radiator cap is new.

You have a crack in the radiator somewhere i would imagine, or turbo line possibly as you said passenger side.

Maybe a leaky plug somewhere around a water gallery.

Things like that can be hard to find as the water runs along parts, so it could be coming from the other side of the car, best to trace the leak if the cap doesnt fix it.

The radiator cap lip is plastic isnt it? So it cant be that.

Here's the update..

I went and picked up a genuine Nissan cap this morning and put it on, started the car and noticed that there is coolant dripping from underneath the car, around the area of the oil sump and fan belts, can't seem to pin point where it is coming from though, any ideas?

    • If it (the code) wasn't still current, it should have gone away by itself by now. No, nothing it 10/10. But it is quite likely. Everything else to do with the ignition could still be responsible (which is wires and connectors). The car is an old piece of shit now, so all the wires and connectors are also old pieces of shit.

    • Before I get to the test day, just to finish off the android head unit. This is a demo from car start up....the standard/host system takes a few seconds to boot (same as all v37) but Android comes up quickly. In this vid I'm using the delivered launcher but have set the default to Agami since which is easier to navigate when if use primarily 5 apps. You can see the host system still takes over when required eg putting it in reverse, and you can switch between Android and not by holding the back button 3 sec. It is pretty responsive (fast) but you can see I had to press harder than expected a couple of times.  I still have the phone connected to the stock system, and that also seamlessly takes over Android music playing. v37-android-demo.mp4 The bigger reason that I put this in though is so that I can use Ecutek directly on the head unit. That gives me a dash with logging (up to 20MB only), high and low value warnings on any parameter etc etc. I've run a USB cable from the Ecutek OBD dongle to a USB input on the unit, easy. v37-ecutek-demo.mp4   The unit did freeze on the launcher the other day, I think Agami was trying to verify the license when it didn't have a data connection...will monitor and report back if there are any other problems but so far I'm very happy with the upgrade.
