Hey im probably going to get a k&n air filter but just wanted to know do you hear any sucking noise compared to a pod filter??

i just got my car imported and it was serviced with a new air filter so i dont know what to do yet but its a recaro brand filter.

A pod filter doesn't really mess with your low-mid torque at all.. That would have more to do with your exhaust,clutch,tyres in most circumstances..

but doesnt k&n give u better response when accelerating and pod filter give you better top end speed or high end torque something like that

It's been said by some members on the forums here that they've noticed a little lack of low torque after putting on a POD.. But I think the gains/differences aren't that noticable.. You're car just breathers cleaner, should run a little more efficiently, get more km's per tank of fuel. I had a boxed POD with cold air intake on it on my old 33 GTS. That seemd to give me the best of both worlds.

yeah if i go with pod im gone need heat shield and good setup so it breaths cold air properly...and im not to good at all this stuff

There's a member on the forums here called Maxx he makes and sells the boxes for R33's anyway it just replaced your stock airobox, encloses the pod, has a clear plastic top so you can see in and still keeps the stock snorkel feed.. See below. If you wanted to get more out of it I'd set up some PVC piping or something from the front bar to blow underneath the pod aswell.. More air can't hurt.

i have a yellow paper panel filter on my r34 im not sure what brand it is but it was on it when i got it. anyway above 4000rpm i can hear a sucking noise it sounds pretty cool. and in my old car i had a k and n air filter and it used to make more of a whistling noise, but both weren't really loud but you could hear them without the radio on.

I started with the stock airbox, went to a pod in a cold airbox with cold air feed, and then back to the standard air box with an Apexi panel filter.

When I changed back to the standard air box, I could notice the following:

- less top end pull

- much better lower end torque for day to day driving

- quieter

If you decide to get a pod, definitely get a heat shield and pipe some cold air to it. I'd recommend a dry/paper filter, not an oiled one like K&N. In a test the Apexi filter had the best filtration and flows just as well or better than the others. It is dry so you can just blow it out with an air compressor when it needs cleaning - ie no messy oil kits.

I used to have a Apexi power intake pod but recently noticed it was dirty so i put the stock air box back on again. The car runs the same, if not better (smoother?).

I could only hear the suction noise if the bonnet was open otherwise i really didn't notice much of a suction noise that everyone goes on about. IMO save your $89, spend it on something else :D

You should have cleaned your pod!! It makes a massive difference.

I agree that the Apexi pod does not make much sucking noise, but it is louder than the standard box.

or around $100+ for K&N panel filter

i still duno yet :)

im sort of leaning towards k&n Panel filter

I find the K&N panel filters to give better responsiveness. As a daily driver I just find something like this to suit my needs. But if your really out for the the intake sound, go for the pod, but as everyone said, let it at least have some cold air feed.

just changed from k&n panel to apexi pod. found the pod to be heaps better and fixed the problem of oil slowly getting onto my air flow meter and stuffing up my a/f ratios. if your gunna use a panel use a dry one, not oiled. :O

    • Yeah, nah. I had the actuator rod off it today. The arm will not move at all. Neither out, nor in. Yeah, you'd think so, but I've been thinking about that. Even when the actuator rod fell all the way off at the beginning of this saga, it would build more boost and faster in lower gears than it would in higher gears, and you'd think that that was the opposite of what should happen. But I strongly suspect that there is a thing with the gearing getting the revs to rise faster, that there must be some transient effect with the gas flow rate rising quickly, that you don't get with the more steady state case of the higher gears. Keep in mind - the gate is not shut in either of my weirdnesses. So things are not "normal". We normally think about a turbo spooling up (below the wastegate target) with the gate shut. I have all sorts of mental models running now where the gate is a little bit open, and having it stuck open allowing gas out while it should be going through the turbine has all sorts of weird effects (in these mental models). I'm thinking in the higher gears, the ex mani pressure builds to the point where enough gases spill out the wastegate to just prevent the pressure rising much more at all, or just creeping up, all the whole the revs are increasing and getting closer to the point where a gear shift becomes necessary.
    • Is it possibly wastegate actuator itself is sticking, or even the rod to flapper? Otherwise I reckon things are getting a bit rusty/worn   Also odd it won't boost in 3rd to 5th, but will in 1st, I'd expect the other way around with it slightly open as there's more time on your way to redline for it to spin up
    • Does anyone know ow what these two plugs are for and if they should be unplugged? Just put the dash back together and can't remember if these were plugged in before or unplugged! (Blue and white plugs) 🤦🏽‍♂️
    • Did some FASTing ...got the impression that the actual part# was a moot point ; seems all of these hardlines for coolant are discontinued/NLA... like, I take it you're after the hardline that bolts onto to the manifold...that's NLA according to amayama & nengun .... ...just to clear up some confusion, they typically mounted the AAC valve to the intake manifold somewhere near a coolant passage, so the body of the valve heats up & holds it open when engine's up to temp - no coolant flows through the valve, it's a mechanical, thermal connection.
