I purchased 2 blue neons to mount under the dash so it shines on the floor

and im also waiting for arrival of Dan's dash led lights also in blue

i have no idea how to install the led lights and remove the dash?

would it be easier installing neons when i remove dash or can i do that now??

i got a switch with the neons but have no idea how to connect all the wiring

such as ground wire earth wire ect...i have no idea what it all means

wondering if someone can help me out

ive done a search and found 1 or 2 posts on how to but still bit dazzled :D

anyone shed any light on my situation?

wow, this is like tha basics of wiring...

You can install the neons now, that's no worries... taking out the dash will have no effect on the footwell area...

as for the neons, if they are your usual 12V neons, they will have a wire coming out of them, one side red, one side black... Attach the positive side (red) to your battery, or a 12V+ of some kind that you can find, and attach the other side (black) to the chassis of the car using an existing bolt... Put the switch on the ground (black) wire, then mount the switch...

Viola, neons :D

you should be able to do the neons and led's seperatly. the led,s are easy you just keep unscrewing things till the gauges come out, change the bulbs and then put it all back together, if you have the same led's that i do remember they only work in one orientation so check that they are all working before you put it back together.

as for the neons, if you dont have instructions and you dont know what you are doing, id just take it to an auto electrician, it shouldnt be more than an hours work

hey man, the neons are a separate thing to the dash so you can do the neons now as [DRD-00F] said. its fairly simple to do but if your not confident with doing it i would go to an auto electrician or ask one of your mates to have a look at it.

Just my 2 cents worth

you can also get a little more complicated with the neons. get a 3way switch wire 1 circuit to a permanent or accessories 12V, wire another circuit to the door lights circuit so you have 3 setting on the switch, off, door and always on. as for the leds im waiting on a set too. ill take some photos if i can get my woman's digital camera.

the neons wires are black and black with a white stripe.... then i have a switch with 3 plugs sticking out ..

i want the neons running on same circuit so they both go on and off together

anyone care to be kind enough to give step by step instructions if not i might get a auto electrician or someone to do it hopefully

ive tried searching for diagrams but no luck

I personally would run the two seperate. Neons are very easy to install. The led in the dash after awhile could become annoying or in some places illegal and you might need to turn them off quickly. With that said. You have a positive and negative and a switch. The power has to be on one post, and the same wire(power wire, just not connected now) comes off the other post, and then you ground the wires. I will post a pic of how my neon turned out.(doesnt show true effect on camera with flash though_post-43903-1193628616_thumb.jpg

to have them both go on and off together run them in parallel.

behold the awesome powers of sleep deprivation and paint (attached)

an on/off switch gets put on one of the wires after the two neons are joined

................../----------neon1-------------\

12V-------- ............................................---------on/off switch--------earth

..................\----------neon2-------------/

wow ascii diagrams too. i need sleep.

aaaanyway theres your basic on/off setup for two neons. just make sure you dont get the + & - wires mixed up. gets more complicated for 3way switch for door circuit. its not too hard but my brain isnt coping right now so ill leave that diagram up to someone more awake than myself.

hope that helps. if you aint confident enough to do that yourself get an autoelec or car audio place to install.

    • perhaps i should have mentioned, I plugged the unit in before i handed over to the electronics repair shop to see what damaged had been caused and the unit worked (ac controls, rear demister etc) bar the lights behind the lcd. i would assume that the diode was only to control lighting and didnt harm anything else i got the unit back from the electronics repair shop and all is well (to a point). The lights are back on and ac controls are working. im still paranoid as i beleive the repairer just put in any zener diode he could find and admitted asking chatgpt if its compatible   i do however have another issue... sometimes when i turn the ignition on, the climate control unit now goes through a diagnostics procedure which normally occurs when you disconnect and reconnect but this may be due to the below   to top everything off, and feel free to shoot me as im just about to do it myself anyway, while i was checking the newly repaired board by plugging in the climate control unit bare without the housing, i believe i may have shorted it on the headunit surround. Climate control unit still works but now the keyless entry doesnt work along with the dome light not turning on when you open the door. to add to this tricky situation, when you start the car and remove the key ( i have a turbo timer so car remains on) the keyless entry works. the dome light also works when you switch to the on position. fuses were checked and all ok ive deduced that the short somehow has messed with the smart entry control module as that is what controls the keyless entry and dome light on door opening   you guys wouldnt happen to have any experience with that topic lmao... im only laughing as its all i can do right now my self diagnosed adhd always gets me in a situation as i have no patience and want to get everything done in shortest amount of time as possible often ignoring crucial steps such as disconnecting battery when stuffing around with electronics or even placing a simple rag over the metallic headunit surround when placing a live pcb board on top of it   FML
    • Bit of a pity we don't have good images of the back/front of the PCB ~ that said, I found a YT vid of a teardown to replace dicky clock switches, and got enough of a glimpse to realize this PCB is the front-end to a connected to what I'll call PCBA, and as such this is all digital on this PCB..ergo, battery voltage probably doesn't make an appearance here ; that is, I'd expect them to do something on PCBA wrt power conditioning for the adjustment/display/switch PCB.... ....given what's transpired..ie; some permutation of 12vdc on a 5vdc with or without correct polarity...would explain why the zener said "no" and exploded. The transistor Q5 (M33) is likely to be a digital switching transistor...that is, package has builtin bias resistors to ensure it saturates as soon as base threshold voltage is reached (minimal rise/fall time)....and wrt the question 'what else could've fried?' ....well, I know there's an MCU on this board (display, I/O at a guess), and you hope they isolated it from this scenario...I got my crayons out, it looks a bit like this...   ...not a lot to see, or rather, everything you'd like to see disappears down a via to the other side...base drive for the transistor comes from somewhere else, what this transistor is switching is somewhere else...but the zener circuit is exclusive to all this ~ it's providing a set voltage (current limited by the 1K3 resistor R19)...and disappears somewhere else down the via I marked V out ; if the errant voltage 'jumped' the diode in the millisecond before it exploded, whatever that V out via feeds may have seen a spike... ....I'll just imagine that Q5 was switched off at the time, thus no damage should've been done....but whatever that zener feeds has to be checked... • I think Fitmit had some, have a look on there (theyre Australian as well)
    • Hah, fair enough! But if you learn with this one you can drive any other OEM manual. No modern luxury features like auto rev-matching or hillstart assist to give you a false sense of confidence. And a heavy car with not that much torque so it stalls easily.
