good - a better daily driven car, more comfortable and refinement. better off boost power due to 2.5L and big brakes.

bad - heavy, higher maintenance, had to spend more on mod if u want to go REALLY serious.

180

good - better handling, touch faster, u won't see many around.

bad - noisey, roomy.

i upgrade from silvia to r33 as i think silvia is too small for me(me,gf & sister) and it's damn noisey, not good for daily driving.

but as my gf & sister got the own car now, i would like to go back to silvia(S15) as it's cheap to reach my aim of performance(low 12sec car)

hi guys, considering whether to buy a strawberry face 180 or Skyline R33 GTSt series II, but can't really decide, somebody explain the pros and cons of these 2 in your own opinion? Thanks in advanced..

Cheers!

And you are on a Skyline forum asking this ??

Cheers

Ken

I used to have a strawberry face... jus the look on ppls faces when you tell em its a harchback 200sx is enuff in itself.

R33's are as common as camries, get sumfin different. I got my CA18DET 180 for $13k (like 3 yrs ago) and then got a bomex kit from japan for about 4k (from a wrecker) bit of patch up etc shipping and for around 19k I was pushin a pimped up car.

As far as pros n cons, the GTSt is more up to date, seriousy the interior of a 180 sux dogs bollox, so uncomfortable, the seats are shit (had fake recaro's in mine but i'm talkin bout the stock ones). All the controls are on stalks like really old outdated 1988 cars (even the R32 din have them).

So yeah, if you're after creature comforts get an R33 its the biggest whale... i mean car as far as 2 door under 1.3tonne imports go. :)

If you're more of a mods person, get an latemodel 180sx with a black top SR20DET in it, it'll give you the most bang for buck... more than an R33. it really responds well to mods as well. I pulled 160rwkw out of my 1.8L, so meh.

the bomex kits are really nice... and ya, the interior for 180s really sxxk big time.. :(:D:mad:

BTW, i found my bomex kit at a wrecker on a strawberry face silvia that was written off. Pure luck if u ask me. An original bomex will cost ya about 9grand.

You can get fibreglass copies n aus now tho for about 4k-5k, with all the ichi-go kits (strawberry faces) that come down here. I know Skyline Imports in Adelaide got one about a month before I got mine back then, I'm sure they still have the moulds.

awesome! are there many of these around? or would u have to do the conversion urself and or import one?? that sounds wicked!! im contemplating a new car but i really dont want to sell my baby.

not that i know of, dude.. there's only one in perth that i saw... which is show cased in one of the garages.. i'm not really sure how or whereabouts doing the conversion itself.. but i do know there are people over at japan doing conversions for ichigoes =P

its actually a kit that was made by bomex, but not sold commercially in mass quantities, to keep its uniqueness.

Its basically the next version of the "sileighty" look.

The panels all fit a 180/silvia very snugly... all you need to do is chop a lil bit of the front bar support off (with your friendly angle grinder) and the rest bolts into place.

In the kit you get:

2 front guards that sit on the 180 chassis and flow into the existing doors and a pillar shape.

2 original s15 headlights

1 fibreglass bonnet also in the s15 shape but with a lil bit of bracket and mounting work under to fit the 180 chassis.

The front bar actually comes seperate, but you can source it from them if you want.

i got pics for the install process if u guys want

my local panel beater fixed up the dents in my kit and installed it on my 180 for me. Mine was like the 7th in australia or sumfin. God knows how many there are now with couple of the shops making fibreglass moulds of the original bomex kit.

    • Don't even try to run it on the stock ECU if you're going to have the boost controller bring boost above ~10 psi. I've already told you that. If you use the Nistune ECU, you will need to CAREFULLY read the available documentation for Neo tuning, and read some threads on the Nistune forums, to discover the various things you have to do to prevent the ECU from going bananas when the boost is too high. The is a table associated with th boost sensor that must be modified to prevent it from shitting the bed. This is just one of the things that you will need to do to the tune in Nistune, because the Neo turbo ECU will be expecting to see a number of things (such as the TCS) that are not there, and you have to block the DTCs on those. It is totally not surprising to me that you are having the problems that you are, but the solutions to these problems have been known for >15 years. So just get it done.
    • Hi. Sry iam not a mechanic and iam not at the car atm so i dont know 100% but they told they measure those and even try to change those. AFM they have two. Coils are new a they have my old one too. Plugs too. ECU...we have 25 NEO stock and Nistune 25 NEO.   But i dont know if any one those could be the problem and why/if/what can cause this, Only thing they did not check is fuel...but that walbro 255 is new(like 1,5 years)... That fuel pressure gauge idk...but i let them know Any suggestions?   EDIT: how can they know if it is like you say he ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high? Tha car has boost controler
    • Can you clarify what you mean by boost cut, do you mean it misfires both when under load (driving) and when stationary and out of gear? Or does the ECU pull power when it reaches a specific boost level that is too high (boost control issue)? Does it occur at idle with no throttle? When you say "the ECU is OK", what ECU is it and why do you think it is OK? Have you used the NEO ECU, and if so do you have a MAP sensor attached? Same for the AFM, why do you think it is OK? Do you have any way to put a fuel pressure gauge on it (even just a mechanical one between the fuel filter and fuel rail)?
    • Hi.. Just another problem. So maybe you can help. I(my mechanic) done swap from my RB20DE NEO to RB25DET NEO. Everything is OK but we have a boost cut. Coils/Plugs are ok...AFM is ok. ECU is ok. I have Walbro 255 but it "changed" sound few months ago(you can hear it ouside) you did not hear that when it was new(maybe faulty?) Sooo...what now? What can cause this boost cut? It is even when you standing still...
