im jumping on the 34 with loud induction noise bandwagon. i spool like a bitch

K&N pod

That's funny... then wtf, does my friends R34 sound like it's got no suction .. he's got a power FC - could it be this??

A computer isnt going to determine how loud your spooling is. Its got to do with A) the type of filter you have B) how much boost you are running. Also i noticed with mine it increased by putting on a front mount. If your talking about fluttering then you Bov will come into it depending on how tight you have the srew wound.

not just the difference in the turbos? dude i no has rb25 turbo on his rb20 hr31 and made very different induction sound. very similer 2 my mates stockish r33 (no pod).

dont mean that induction sound? but yea just throwin idea round...

I think I'll have to clarify slightly... R32s / R34s do have suction sounds... but much much smaller... perhaps this is a feature in R34's to make it more quieter an hence more cruisey... I don't know... but R33's have the Loudest suction sounds... love it or hate it... this is the truth...

haha ok. we believe you ;)

seriousy, like 90% of everyones posts, its got to do with what type of pod. exposed/in a box. and how much boost.

wen my r33 had just a panal filter k&n, the induction noise was high pitched @ 12psi

then when i put the aluminum pod on, i got a louder deeper induction sound. sounds like the engine wants to suck in seagals haha.

Ha ha ha :D

I just got my stock BOV put be on... and guess what? The induction sounds different now...

my rb20det had gcg highflow turbo, 3" turbo back, HKS Mushroom pod, and no induction noise.

I just put on Front mount, hks ssqv and a plazmaman forward facing plenum, and now even on idle u can hear the bastard sucking air in from outside car with bonnet shut.

ATM getting a 4" intake pipe from stainless... should sound sick mate.

Man my car has the stock box (33)... People have said it sounds like a fugging jet following them!

And I have been in a few 32s/34s... way way less suction noise with pods...

For being nearly stock, my car is a freak!

Thank you.... this is exactly what I am trying to say!!!

on my old r33 gtst, i had a fair few mods, bigger turbo, injectors, fuel pump, power fc, turbo back exhaust, fmic, bov, pod and now i have an r34 with just a fmic, and pod filter. and the r34 has a louder induction sound, but the spooling on the r33 was alot louder, if that makes sense :S

Wonder why? I suppose the intention of this thread was to ask everyone (mechanically) why this is the case? :(

    • You know how your car rolled through a fence in your last jacking escapade? Scissor jacks increase the likely hood of that sort of thing happening immensely!

    • Just trying to get my head around this. At 5psi of boost, you turn on your wmi pump, and then you're using a 3000cc injector, to allow flow upto the actual engine, where you have your 6x200cc injectors and a 500cc injector. If the above is correct, what advantage are you obtaining by having the 3000cc injector blocking flow, is this just incase a line breaks between that injector and the motor you can stop flow immediately? Or are the 6x200cc and 500cc less injectors and just spray nozzle?
    • Welcome! New member myself, but I had an R33 back in 2002. Best advice I could give, based on my experience: if you're running the factory turbo, be very conservative with boost. I made the mistake of just fiddling around with the boost controller and cranking the boost for fun, and the end result was my intake pipes popping off frequently from the constant deluge of oil that was being blown into the recirc by the stressed-out turbo, which itself was siphoning oil from the engine and farting it out both sides of its centre bearing (or something to that effect). If I could do it all again, I would have gotten a new turbo and had a tune dialled in professionally and then just left it alone! Funny you mention the metal shavings in the gearbox, as I had the same thing - the probe plug (magnetic drain plug, essentially) would come out caked with shavings. At least it was doing its job. Not sure if that's just sacrificial wear and part of the deal, or if my gearbox was shagged, but I wasn't abusing it. Enjoy the R33 - they're a dying breed, and if they weren't $35k+ on CarSales in Queensland, I might have picked up one of those again, instead of the 370GT I own now (though I'm loving the 370GT, that big 3.7L V6 just hits different).
    • Howdy folks. I owned an R33 back in 2002, which was thoroughly beyond my capacity (financially speaking) to maintain/insure, so we parted ways in 2004. Fast forward 21 years (to literally yesterday, in fact) and I'm now the proud owner of a 2007 V36 370GT. I'm happily surprised by how much power the VQ37VHR makes, compared to the RB25DET, considering the latter is turbocharged. I had planned to add a turbo at some point but I'm on the fence about whether I'll even need it (though I do love the sudden onset of extra torque). Any other 370GT owners around the traps, I'd love to hear about your experiences with this car (good and bad).
