Hey all

Just a quick question. I've recently bought a brand new gt3540 and i noticed the compressor housing looks different to other garrett turbos ive seen before including other gt3540's. All the others had the a/r stamped on the compressor housing and had a rather smooth surface. My turbo compressor housing doesnt really have anything on it and the surface is a lil rougher. I had a look on the garrett website and the picture of my turbo on the website looks the same as mine so i'm not overally worried but i admit i still am a lil as i've never seen another with the change. Has anyone come across this before or know of any change in the casting process?

cheers

Kemp, who fancy drilled those covers, not Mr Turbo jobbies are they?

Cheers

nah they arnt mr turbo job's

u see the 2nd turbo from the left?? thats mine :D i'll be puting that on my GTR but B4 it goes on the GTR im gonna put it on the 180 and gas it and see if i can crack into the 400rwkw mark with a SR20

the turbo's full custom the compressor housing was machined by ATP over in the states and the exhaust housing is a custom in-house casted exhaust housing

its a T4 flange and its divided aka twin-scroll/spit-pulse A/R .70 <----- thats right its not a typo .70 u guys have any idea how responsive thats going to be and it will also have enuff top end to make over 400kw

the housing can not be bought from garrett because garrett dont even make them

The SR setup should be wicked, good luck man!

i seriously cant help it aye

my mate made more power then me and i wanna blow him away so im gonna up the turbo and gas the car just to make it in the 400kw mark which has been done with the SR20 B4 but ive neva done it so i may as well

the GTR project will have to wait the 180 is more important to me right now

i got mine polished because it was ugly, had a burr mark and crap on it.. got it polished thru slide, as i wont be happy and say "oh na its ok i payed 1700 for a turbo and its not what i like" f**k that. I would have gone to the extent and flown over to see jason myself.. and made him change the cover or polishd it. simple.

ill post a pic of my turbo when i find a pic :)

also the manifold wasnt the best, rob hadto do some fab work to it, cut it and move the turbo away from the head, cut the external wastegate flange off and reweld a new one in from the side just under the flange. so it looks different to how it is when we dummy fitted it.

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
