RB20DET Question

Does anyone know for certain wether the RB20DET will have valve damage from a snapped cam-belt?

Yes they will because they arent a free spining motor.

You will get bent valves if the timing belt snaps.

Thanks SDU4EVA, it wasn't the answer I was hoping for. My CAM belt didn't actually snap, the idler pulley bolt sheared off for some reason and the cam belt had no tension.....

Motor was only in there for two weeks %#^@#^%

I just wish the warranty covered labour.

Car was idleing at stop light when it happened. Just finished putting it back together with new bolt and cam belt and crossed my fingers, but it was turning over flat out like it had no compression... Not even a litlle hint of life (

could be that you didnt put the belt back on properly they have timing markings that you are meant to match up?

Get someone to do a compression test.

Nah, lined all the marks up spot on, turned it over o few times and checked again, still spot on. I can turn the motor over by hand.... Feels like no compression at all. It's under warranty and all that, but I still gotta pay somone to put it in dammit!@$#

Sorry to hear that. BUt atleast in the long run you will practically have a new head with new valves that are properly seated and a re done head.

It's just a second hand motor.... I would suggest possible piston damage from valve contact??
