Hi guys,

i got a problem with my HID, been noticing this past few weeks it started 'BLinking'.

But the problem dosent stop there, after ongoing blinking it black out and im driving with one headlight one.

Worst case scenario is when BOTH lights blinking and BOTH blackout ..pretty shocking ! when both does blackout

it can be easily solve by flicking on the high beam for a few second and the low beam will then start working again

but just for a little while before it start blinking again! = //

it gets pretty annoying after a while and look pretty stupid when stopping at traffic lights.

So has this happened to anyone before and any attempt in fixing it ?? all i have tried is reconnect the HID

but it didnt do much. Does it have something to do with the fuse ? or not enough power is charging the HID and when it

heat up it start blinking ?

any help will be GREAT guys .. =]]

Yeah, I think it'll be best to get a new kit. Not all that expensive. About $150 or so.

I first thought that this would be the switches fault, but with the switch, it doesn't work at all at the start of the day, but once it's on, it's on. Whereas this flickers, my guess would be that it's the kit.

soo after you got the new kit it was OK? no more blinking?

what the name of the kit you got ?

because i got mine from Hong Kong 6000k kit not sure if i want to change it to 8000k(is that what you mean by higher temp?)

But yehh i like the white colour on the 6000k.

Will consider on changing to a new kit as Plan B but at the moment plan A is trying to fix it ^__^

thanks for the reply guys

Simple Fix buy a new kit, one or both of your ballast are damage and can't be fix. by the sounds of it you have one of the cheap china kits. the 1st gen of the cheap china kits had this problem, they have now solve that problem.

i bought mine locally from the lookee dealer, so when the same thing happen to mine he replaced both my ballast under warranty

so its probably the ballast that is damage ? because i tuck my ballast in some tight corners/area and yehh very unsucure

when i drive, i know that for sure. I can use velco but i know its going to melt somehow due to the heat of the engine.

anywho, soo once the ballast is damaged, thats it ? new kit is best option? :D

Yeah, new one would be best. No point try to get it repaired when a new whole kit will only cost you $200 max.

  • 2 weeks later...

okk well i gave it one last shot at trying to figit with the lights and its working good atm..

as i said before my ballast wasnt secured properly and it would often bouce around in the engine bay which might

cause abit of damage to the ballast but now i have place them in really tight corners and they dont move around

as much and it has fixed my problem.. well at least fixed it enough to prevent me from buying a new kit = ]]

it dosent blink/flick as much anymore, 95% in good working order... but once in a LONGG time it will flick/blink

only on one side though..soo im still happy

Yup, it's your ballast. I had the same problem in my front right headlight. I jiged it around a bit and secured it better and now everything is fine. I bought some 8000k Xenon bulbs and everything is fine.

one of my ballast's completely gone ;)

flickers for 1 sec when you switch it on then nothing

I think I've secured my ballasts quite good

I mean the ballast still doesn't work when I'm turning the headlights on with my car stationary in the garage

just hooking the low beam connectors to the high beam ballast for now

    • Got some decent progress after work yesterday and also today. Got the ECU all wired and passenger side interior all back together. Kept the wiring up nice and high to avoid people standing on it. Got the surge tank relays rewired and tidied up the pump wiring and cut a hole to bring the cables through.  I found a spare USB cable I had lying around so I decided to cut it up and see if I could use it for my CAN 1 bus. Turned out one of the pins I needed was to the shield of the cable so i cut it up and desoldered it and resoldered to the correct pins.  Had the issue with the powersteering hose hitting the A/C compressor and fan shroud. I pulled the bracket off and modified it to remove the front mounting point which now clears it all. Will keep an eye on it to see if theres any signs of fouling once it's up and running.
    • That's some good input mate. Nice.
    • So today I went well outside my comfort zone (again) to replace my valve cover gasket.  I have had a big leak over the exhaust leading to a lot of smoke and smell every time I drove it. The leak was in the rear driver's corner.  The job wasn't hard as such, just a bit finicky and time consuming.  The old gasket was rock hard and broken right where the leak was.  The leaky corner had so much sitting oil in it.  The good news to my amateur eyes was no buildup or sludge under the cover. It all looked fairly nice in there.   I haven't started it yet. I ran out of light and body when putting the coils and injector loom back in. Probs only 30min left for the morning.  I was so nervous putting the cover back on, I must have lifted it 5 times to make sure the gasket was still seated properly. God it's going to be nice to be leak free and not make other traffic light queuers think my car is about to explode.
    • Gave the Mazda it's first wash, it will need some clay, a light compound, and polish polish to remove a few swirl marks, but that will be a job for when I have a full day to get my DA polisher action on
    • Just did this job on my 32 with the boost doc kit. was quite simple to fit, hardest part was getting the rubber bungs back on the firewall. does anyone know how the heater will work now without the flap in the bend? Will I just have a heater on 24/7 now?
