Am looking at fitting the Apexi Power Intake to the Stagea which runs the R33 GTR RB26. The kit comes with the two pods, brackets and bolts, twin cast AFM mounts etc. Will i need anything else to hook this up?

The reason i ask is that i have no got the car yet, and haveing never had a 26DETT before i was concerned about whether it runs 1 AFM or two, one for each turbo.

Quick response from someone who has one would be fantastic. Also, for the $300 or so it will cost me, is this a good value mod for a can running fairly standard but with a highflow cat and cat back exhaust, FMIC and 12PSI?

Looking to upgrade the computer, coilpacks and turbo's at a later date also, as well as finish the exhaust from the turbo back.

Cheers guys..

The RB26 definately has 2 AFM's - one for each turbo inlet. I don't think you would notice a huge difference between a stock airfilter box and aftermarket pods running 12PSI. I had an ARC induction box (aluminium) on my 32 GTR when I first bought it. Ran a 12.4 with that on 15PSI then changed to twin pod filters and ran the exact same time, dynoed at 215kw at the rear wheels. You can safely run 15PSI on an RB26, so maybe a digital boost controller may be the go as well.

I'm also picking up a 260RS (hopefully tomorrow), and after test driving it I really can't believe it feels the same and handles the same as my 32 GTR - can't wait to run them side by side!!

Craig.

maybe stick to a hi-flow panel filter until you go further

ie bigger turbo's, bigger afm's, bigger injectors, Power-Fc etc

I think its more of a "what do I like best" kind of mod

you'll hear more induction noise from the pods

however the filter should pass thru as much air as the pods (in the 260rs current form)

at this stage of the game, comes down to the $$ you are willing to spend prior to chasing bigger HP.

pehaps that $ is best put towards a clutch atm?

do you like the sound of massive induction roar?

etc

I would be scared to push the ceramic exhaust wheeled turbos past 12 psi! They tend to de-laminate and shatter, with the possibility of ceramic dust ending up in your combustion chamber, or best case clogging up your cat.

I'd wait until you get some steel wheeled turbos on there.

Fair call Paul, running anything over 12PSI is of course a risk - but just for your info, I've been running 15PSI on my '93 R32 GTR since I got it 5 years ago and I've done 55,000km's and about 100 drag passes in it. Never had a problem with the turbos.

Yeah luck of the draw! And knowing my luck.... Are you sure yours are ceramic still? Good to hear they have held together. Love your new 260RS btw - engine bay is neat as - hope there are still a few around when i need me a wagon.

Stagecoach - when you are fitting the kit try and set the brackets up to make sure the lower AFM is not leaning against the intercooler piping (the one with twin turbo written on it). I have a hunch that vibration from this pipe contributes to problems with the AFM - namely this one http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Fi...-s-t113284.html

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
