Hello All,

Im thinking my car needs a few mods to give it a bit of a kick up the arse. It currently has a turbo back exhaust, shocks and spings and a pod...thats it!

I do know what I can get for it but I'd like some opinions on parts which are more needed over other parts. For instance, I was thinking about getting wheels, strut brace and front mount. Im not saying I have all that money now for them parts but they were going to be items I would save up for. I am now thinking there are parts that would be worth getting over them, like a PFC, coil packs and what not.

Anyone have some ideas that will get me a little power over looks, I dont need wheels right now so there is 3k saved for something else.

Hit me with what ya got :)

Depends what power you are chasing. If the car already handles fairly well and your not looking for over ~200kw get a front mount, some form of engine management/ piggy back unit (Emanage ultimate, SAFC - PFC's for RB25's are getting to the $1300+ regions these days if you can find one) and get the car tuned.

If you want more power than that your going to need to start looking at an upgraded turbo, injectors, a Z32 AFM, and clutch. A basic piggy back unit like the SAFC will not allow you to run these modifications correctly.

So maybe a PFC would be a decent option at this stage. Ive been hearing for a while now that the apexi pfc's are very hard to come buy. Is there any other brand that may be as good but maybe cheaper?

Front mount. boost control, and engine management. If you are keeping the stock turbo and cams there realy isnt any point doing much more than that to the engine as there are very minimal power gains to be made.

But if you do feel the need to do the cam gears leave the intake cam alone as the VCT gives you a lot more mid range power than an adjustable cam gear will.

Think about how far you want to take power now, so you don't muck about with gear you'll loose money on, selling later.

If your not looking to change turbo, then don't bother with a front mount that will increase throttle delay. The R34 GTT units replace the side mount one and flow to about 220-250rwkw which is already a good 20-30 over what your stock turbo will do at safe pressures.

I reckon its not worth a munched engine, due to failed stock turbo. A GCG style highflow, signal bender, maybe a adj FPR to sneak base pressure up a bit should see you 220-240

You generally cant change injectors with a bender though, so once you need more then the stockys can provide, it's AM ECU time.

Spend an hour going through http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/Rb...html&st=360 and see if you can get a ride in someone's 240rwkw setup. If you want more, then start planning for a much larger turbo, ECU, fuel upgrades, clutch blah blah.

So am I able to get a GCG highflow turbo without any other mods or will that require a front mount, ecu or anything else? By the sounds of it I could get a GCG for the same price it will cost to get my FMIC supplied and fitted??

Last time I checked, GCG highflows were $1900, you can get a Garrett BB unit for cheaper than that, especially if you know somone who works for Repco (staff prices).

Probly one of my favourite mods was after having the front mount put on, I had a bit of lag, so i got my manifold cut and shut and now it faces forward which reduced piping by about 1 meter and basically got rid of any lag. But for the price of some of the purpose built manifolds of late, that would be another option. Also with the cut and shut, you need an aftermarket computer anyway cos it will lean out some cylinders, but the purpose built ones you dont.

you can get better turbos for the same money as a highflow and sell your stock turbo off if you upgrade. if your looking for a whole turbo kit you cant go past the HKS GT-RS kit $2900 from Sliding Performance (clicky for the link) and it comes with everything to bolt it onto the engine

cam's make a big difference...

On a rb26 (not really anything to go off i know) with cams pump computer, injectors + a little more boost you can get some really high figgers off the unopened bottem end. Something to consider though is how long you want to engine to last...

Stevo -

Simple effective power mods:

Step one: Front mount intercooler kit (decent size) about $600 - $1,000 depending on brand.

Step two: GCG Garret turbo kit (you can get bolt on RB25DET kits that are pretty straight forward to fit) $1900 - $2200 depending on size.

Step three: Splitfire coils + cooler spark plugs (if you put a bigger turbo on and turn the boost up you can easily blow out the spark from standard coils, helps to limit pinging aswell) - $750 - $1,000.

Step four: 550cc injectors (more boost needs more fuel) - $750 - $1,000 depending on brand.

Step five: Power FC - Best bang for your buck computer you can buy (to control it all) - $800 - $1,000.

Have your exhaust looked at, dont just assume that it will flow enough for a bigger turbo and modified engine, the one that I got with my car was almost completely blocked and had to be replaced.

Most mods will cost you a few hours labour to fit if you dont want to do it yourself - Call the boys at Trojan and talk to them about that.

With those mods you should see about 240rwkw (depending on the tune and what size turbo you go for).

You dont need an aftermarket Fuel pressure reg, or a Z32 air flow meter unless youre going for big power, otherwise the stock equipment is good for about 240 - 260rwkw...

Happy modding :turned:

P.S. I have done all of these mods to my own car, had 4 dyno tunes and almost every problem you could imagine, so feel free to ask me if you have any questions. :)

I cant help these things!!! There is just something right about it!!!!!

mmmmm next project s4/5 rx7 or RX2 coupe / 4 door with 13bbp turbo with T66 106 or just a bridge.... bloody house wish that was finished.

They's a lot more then 1K though :turned: And if 240'ish ends up being enough, then he saves $$$.

Not evry feels the need to slap a 500hp HKS unit on Race *cough* lol :)

Mick is spot on, its all simple enough to install, relatively cheap and you can have a lot of fun with that power. Or you can head the other direction and spend that sort of money on suspension, wheels and tyres and go fast round bendys instead.

Hola, como estas?

I have found a turbo I think would suit thhe power I am after. Does anyone have any experience with the garrett GT3071R or know a little about it??

Gracias

Thats using your noggin. Much better deal than the GCG highflow. P.S, I have decided to stick with the Power fc for a little while so I can at least drive it, but I have seen a few in the classifieds recently.

    • No, you're wrong, and you've always been wrong about this. The Nismo has 2 sets of openings. One is a real 2-way, and the other is a 1-way. There is no 1.5-way possible with the ramps that they offer. A real 1.5-way does exist. That Cusco stuff I posted is a prime example. If the forward drive ramps are, say 55°, and the overrun ramps are, say, 30°, then you will get about half as much LSD effect on overrun than you do on drive. It is real, it realy works. OK, you're slightly right. The Nismo has 55° and 45° ramps on the 2-way, so it does offer less LSD effect on overrun. But, I think that just means that they've (probably) sensibly established that you do not want actually equal LSD effect on overrun. You just want "quite a lot, but not quite as much as the drive LSD effect".
    • Just wanted to unearth this and post my baby with the new front ❤️😝 Took her to my wedding rehearsal today. Next up is getting wide skirts (after wedding)
    • Yea, that is what I was getting at in my ramblings too. The nismo one actually is a 1.5 way and a 1 way. They don't do a *2* way because a true *2* way would have equal ramp angles. Or is that a true 1.5 way? Realistically I think a "1.5 way" does not actually exist. A diff can either lock in two directions or one. It also doesn't help that a LOT of people in Australia speak about 1.5 way diffs are referring to their 1 way diff.
    • Well, the trouble with that ^^ is: The configuration shown is absolutely a 1-way, not a 1.5-way. There is no way that a 1.5-way can be said to offer LSD action only on acceleration. If Nismo cannot get that right, then it is impossible to believe their documentation. That ^ is not a 1.5 way setup. That is a 1-way.   And so now I have allowed all doubts to flourish and have gone back to look at the MotoIQ video. I originally made the mistake of believing him when he said "this is a 1.5-way" at the ~6:10 mark. Because what he did was take the gear assembly out of the 2-way opening and just rotate it one place to the left to drop it into the 1-way opening. When he dropped it in there, the cam was "backwards" compared to the correct orientation shown in all other photos of that config. The flat shold have been facing the 1° ramp side of the opening, not the 55° ramp side. And I thought, "gee that's cute", but I was concerned at the time, when he put the other ring back on, that the gap between the rings looked like it was wider then in the 2-way config. And then I said a lot of things in my long post on Tuesday that could only make sense if the guy from MotoIQ was correct about what he'd done. BUT... I have now done my homework. I grabbed a frame of the video with the 2-way config, and then grabbed another with the "1.5-way" config, snipped out the cam and opening of that frame and just pasted it direct on top of the 2-way config. I scaled it so that the triangular opening was almost exactly the same height in both. AND.... the gap between the plates is wider with the cam installed in the triangualr opening backwards. That is.... it cannot go together that way. There would be massive force on the plates all the time, if you could even reassemble it.  So, My statement on the matter? The Nismo diff is actually only a 2-way and 1-way. There is no 1.5-way option in it, regardless of what they say. Here's a photo of a real 1.5-way ramp opening from Cusco (along with the 1 way option). And the full set of 1 through 2 way options from their racing diff, which is not same-same as what we'd typically be using, but...the cams work the same. A little blurry, but it comes from this Cusco doc, which is quite helpful. AND.... Cusco do in fact do what I suggested would be sensible, which is to have rings that do 1 and 1.5, and 1.5 and 2. Separately.
