R33 S1 Gts-t Nearly Stalls Itself?

Hi all,

Im basically a fairly big noob when it comes to cars, i've slowly been learning since i bought my first skyline so hopefully you can bare with me.

I'm worried about my r33 gts-t, because it seems to nearly stall itself, what I mean by that is that when im driving along and I peak at maybe 3-4k rpm and I put my foot on the clutch the rpm drops down below idle of whats around usually 750rpm when its warm, down to around 400-500rpm for less then a second then it bumps itself up to around 750rpm again without me touching the accelerator. It has been doing it for as long as I owned it, but I only decided to look into it after today, I put the clutch in to turn around a corner and the rpm must have dropped below 400, a red light on my dash flickered for a split second (no where near enough for me to see what it was) and my steering turned very stiff...

It's just worrying me and I was wondering if any of you know if this is normal or if there is a problem I should be looking into, if it turns out to be nothing I just want to be sure. Thanks. :)

i reckonn the red light was the battery light, when mine does that and the steering goes stiff the hicas light and battery light come on right ebfore the engine bumps the rpm back up again

mine does exactly the same as yours, but goes from like 50rpm to 1k. ive got it booked in for a diagnostic this week

Do you have an atmospheric blow off valve? My bov used to do that until i swapped it for a stock one.

EDIT: I would also trying cleaning ur air flow meter

Atmospheric? I think I do.. it's this http://img404.imageshack.us/img404/7532/imgp0001bg9.jpg

Wheres the airflow meter and how am I suppose to clean it? :)

delljit if the diagnostic helps you sort out the problem could you post or pm me what the problem was? Mine definitely doesn't drop as low as 50rpm.

Thanks for the replies.

D_C i think that might be an atmo bov

mine isnt atmo

ive cleaned afm

cleaned aac valve

changed fuel filter

changed timing belt

ecu reset

ecu has no error codes either

when it is in its little idle fluctuating mode, if i get out and pop the bonnet then unplug the thin vac line on the front of the inlet manifold the car will sort itself out after about 5-15 seconds then it will be fine for a while

my charcoal canister doesnt appear to be plugged in

I have a s2 and mine was doing this for a while after I installed my dual port BOV

after reading around, i just tensioned the spring more so it sneezes higher up the scale and made sure my vac line was really tightly secured at both ends and problem solved

it would seem the gts-t has a problem with being vented to atmosphere at the lower range so this would probably explain why your having problems with ur atmospheric BOV, and why people who go back to the stockers plumb back system don't encounter the problem any more

    • Hey Kaz, Unfortunately I am not at home currently and wont be for a few more months so I do not have access to my files or CAD. And at this point I prefer to keep the files to myself as I want to potentially make a few more pairs and see if they will sell within the EU before openly marketing them. But the way it's shaped and how small it is, I don't think you can fit both an indicator and a fog light onto the same surround, unless they were very small LED-type clusters.
    • I’ve just installed a Uniclutch sport into my R32. I’ve been blown away by it… it drives like a stock Toyota Corolla. It doesn’t make sense to me that a performance clutch can drive this well. I was about to pull the trigger on a Nismo Coppermix twin plate when I discovered the Uniclutch and decided to give that a shot instead. They’ve changed the game and I couldn’t be happier.    I was previously using an Extreme cushioned button clutch with lightened flywheel. I’m still using the same lightened flywheel with the Uniclutch.
