R34gtt Induction Box

Recommended Posts

Guest TR34GT

Hello SAU members. I'm a newbie I guess, but only in relation to the present car. I've been a member as MYR331 and TR33GT before. The membership was with the last two R33 GTST's I've owned and modified.

I wanted to let people know (if you know already, thats great) that my son and I constructed an air intake box for our new car, and R34 GTT. The box was made for a grand total of $40.

I will be posting a few pictures of the thing here shortly (when its finished) but so far, it looks bloody good, and functions a treat.

The intake box was made out of a piece of $20, 2mm thick polished aluminum sheet (scrap piece). It was cut using a cardboard template made to measure to suit the installation. The box was trial fitted a few times, and filed / cut and adjusted accordingly. It is mounted over the HKS Super Induction pod filter upstream of the airflow meter, to two existing standard mounting points with 5mm high tensile steel bolts incorporating vibration mounts ($5 incl). The top was cut from the same scrap sheet, and is bolted to two outer "L" shaped brackets, again with dual high tensile bolts, which are easily removed to gain access to the filter and water reservoir.

It took my son and I one full day to make the template, cut and shape all parts, trial fit (5 times), and permanently mount.

It is being removed, painted, and vinyled up this weekend, and will attach the pics in the next post.

I just wanted to let people know how easy this is, and how good it can look in a decent engine bay, for $40. (our labour not included of course)

Regards. Jim (TR34GT)

LOL Hey Mic,

I only noticed the McCarrol ute about a dozen times on my way home last night.

Yep, the cars triptronic, and I do drive it as such.

Its been through a decent few years of modification until this time.

The finishing touches are only weeks away.

Catch you on the Pacific Highway, or at the next cruise.

Regards

not sure.. i havent installed it yet. picking up this weekend from a mate in newcastle. im hoping it doesnt affect the airbox.

I hope it's not affected.

I installed an HKS Superflow filter when the HKS FMI went in, and it is bloody noisy in the cabin.

This is the main reason why my son and I are installing the 2mm thick aluminium induction box.

The vortex noise "shooshing" is annoying sometimes.

Anyway......catch you on the street, and good luck with the install.

ps..........the 2000 model GTT is a shitload better than the 1998 model from what owners tell me. Good buy!

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
