WazR32GTSt
i have been thinking (yes it hurts).. i really hate the idea of a space-saver spare, especially on a car like the V35 i was wondering if anyone has tried a different rim to see if it fits into the spare tyre location? eg a R32 rim? i'm sure something like a R32 rim could fit our car, so if it could be fitted into the boot withoug fuss we could have a full-sized spare for nix has anyone got one lying around at home they could try to see if it fits? cheers, Warren Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/214384-spare-tyre/ Share on other sites
rs73
Well looking at how the tyres sit and the depth of the space, it'll probably not gonna take a full size 18" tyre, but a small 16" with 205 width might fit... problem is if the car has got a brembo factory then a 16" may not clear then the spare would be useless. I got a set of old 16" from the R33 but no tyres, so I can't really tested whether it'll fit, mine no brembo so clearance shouldn't be an issue. WazR32GTSt
an R33 wheel would be fine, the overall diameter is goign to be roughly the same as the spare i was thinking more on the lines of width.. can you maybe throw it in the spare tyre location and see if the carpet goes over it like stock? or if it bulges? that would be awesome! The spacesaver is also lighter than a full sized wheel/tyre and so will be part of the make up of the cars balance. In essence you're adding weight for the odd occasion you might need to use it or if someone happens to look at it in your boot. Yeah i know it's a bit, but this will also play a part when it comes to fuel consumption. If you're doing a lot of highway driving, yep I can understand as it would suck to be doing 80km/h on a freeway, but other than that I really don't get why you would want one. WazR32GTSt
i do a lot of driving and will continue to in the future changing work locations frequently with the work i'm in the concept of a proper spare is an appealing one for me. i care not for the added weight (maybe 5kg?) rs73
R33 std 16x6.5" rims are no good. First they sit too high, about 5-10cm too thick and will make the boot carpet over it bulges like a sore ulcer ready to pop. And i've only tested this without tyres on, if a tyre of 205 or 225 is fitted on the rims then the small boot opening might be too tight to get the spare tyre in or out. Also i've done a quick tyre calculator conversion, if we are to use 16x6.5 rims from R33 then we gotta get some very high profile like 225/60 or 205/65R16 to keep the rolling circumference as close as possible to the std 225 & 245/45 R18. And with the 16" under the boot carpet the raised boot floor will reduce the valuable boot space, that only slimmer suitcases would fit in.
