Had the car back on the road for about 2 weeks and managed to get a yellow already.... Very upsetting.

After having a polite chat with the officers and showing them around the car for 15mins or so without them being able to find anything I was told that they are sending me over the pits just in case... How does that work?

Visible mods on car are pod filters which they shook for a while (they are secured to the chassis with metal brackets), street legal exhaust and 2 gauges off to the left on the dash. The yellow sticker just says "Post manufacture Modifications to comply with Vehicle Standard Regulations" that is all...

Thought they actually had to have something to defect? i.e.: Exhaust to loud, Pod's unsecured etc.... I tried to find the laws regarding yellow stickers but got nothing... Called them up and was basically told that it’s all up to the cops and there is no guidelines for them...

Anyone know any info regarding the actual law's related to yellow stickers? Such as what they are given for, how many things have to be wrong before they are given?

hrmm i thought that they had to fine two faults with the vechical before they gave you one? they gave my gtr one a few months ago as well the hardest part is finding time to go over and what have you.

lol i think it is kind of possible to take them to court but it's not really worth it...

too many costs involved, but the way they worded their write up is more than reasonable to take you to the pits

my2c: you were just very, Very, VERY unlucky mate

Andrew

yeah that was a while back though, and i thought any more than 5 defects got you a red sticker

They only need to find one thing (ie bald tyres) and that can be enough, they can write all sort of bullshit. They could of even said that your aftermarket gauges blocked your view of the road and stickered you for that.

Just sounds like you got some ASSHOLES

Wasn’t doing anything at all, just driving on Northlake road on the speed limit. They didn’t seem to be fairly reasonable, talked to a guy on the phone at the department of defects and he told me to go see a guy at east Perth, will see how that goes tomorrow. I don’t really see why I should go and spend my hard earned at the pits when there is nothing to fix on the sticker. I wouldn’t have an issue if there was actually something wrong, but there isn’t.

Welshpool are generally the easiest.

O'Connor are generally the easiest.

Midland are generally the easiest.

Warwick are generally the easiest.

It's pure luck, most of the inspectors end up at different inspection stations on different days. Can't remember if you re-regoed your car & it was inspected not long ago or if you just didn't let the rego run out, but if there isn't much wrong with your car (mechanically or not too loud etc) & it will pass, you should be fine to just make a booking before the expiry date to a place close to you. All except Welshpool & O'Connor you need to book ahead of time now, which is good in a way if you have the time. This was the case a few months ago anyway & I think it will still be the same now, but http://www.dpi.wa.gov.au will tell you pretty much what you need to know.

Good luck!

^ if i was you i would go to the pits... tell them to check out your sticker and say your car is stock and you bought it the way it is from the Dealer or something...

and you have NO idea as to what should be specifically fixed because your car is like stock... they might just take off the sticker if they think it's too ridiculous hey just give it a shot

lol i wouldn't really wana try lie to the inspectors, cause if you go its all stock..they go pop the hood ill check to make sure..then they see all this stuff..

they'll look into your car more carefully. and next time u come bak n go uve changed that part or whatever, they'll make sure u changed everything..

anyways with your GTR, did you have Permits for anything? pretty crappy if they can send you over pits just to check..

when you go over the pits get them to issue a permit with every mod you have on it. It won't always get you off a yellow sticker if they want to be real bastards but most of the time it will help.

A have a permit listing pods, gauges, steering wheel etc etc.

Haha, yeah that was me, im usualy arround that area. Funny thing is after passing you and turning left onto farington a white 34GTR passed me heading the other direction, crazy.

Not going to lie to anyone, car doesn’t look particularly stock when you pop the bonnet. Has painted cam covers Clear timing belt cover, pods, shiny gready oil filter relocation (part of oil cooler) exposed splitfires.. etc. None of the modifications on the car are illegal though, stock cat and all and if the police are going to yellow something they need to know what they are talking about

If it makes you feel any better mate I got one on my 32 R at the moment too. For useless reasons also but hey you get that driving an import (well thats what some of the cops recon). Just got to get it off and carry on enjoying the car.......Worst thing is to let these experiences put you off driving an import...!!! Its hard taking time off work though.

They thought my exhaust was loud, and when I asked well do you think its louder than a Harley davidson the officer didnt know what to say except....."you got a straight though muffler".....ohhhh ok thanks for letting me know officer.

Good luck mate......I'm sure I'll need it too. :)

Cheers,

R.

Went and spoke to a guy at the east Perth inspection centre, he looked over the car and said that it shouldn’t have gotten a yellow but couldn’t take it off. Said that I had to go and speak to the sergeant in charge of the officers that gave me the yellow. Went to see the Sergeant at the Freo police station, he agreed that all the mods that they pointed at were fine (pod, gauges, exhaust) and said that he told the officers not to pick on them again, however proceeded to pick on the space saver tyre in the boot having little tread and windscreen wipers a bit worn on one end of them (one inch long). Not sure what I can do from here...

    • Hello!  i just finished manual swaping my r34 skyline with a r33 rb20de box(RB71C)box  When the car is running it squeaks crazy loud and it was smoking from the gearbox area. The gearbox is fine it was tested. The clutch slave cylinder seems like it doesn't fully releases the clutch. I want to ask if this noise is from the throw out bearing or could it be the clutch assembly or disk att.xFliq87Gzw6kImKBVqDebXkj0fBqymk0JaYeP3_3SlM.mp4
    • A few small updates since the previous post and lessons. I decided to do a little interior light upgrade on the 110. I quite like the iilumo items, even if they're a bit of a premium over other brands. You'll also note the Stedi Fogs, that will go into the S15 fog lights as I needed to match the bulbs since I got the new ones earlier. I hope they fit as the body is quite a bit longer than your normal bulb.  Annoyingly, I managed to trip the fuse, which normally wouldn't be an issue until I located the fuse. I can't say I've ever come across this. I had lucked out that someone nearby had a spare, but oddly enough Toyota dealerships seem to keep this in stock. I ordered some to keep in my stash and as luck would have it, someone else nearby tripped the same fuse so I passed on the favour.  I also did a little service on the 110 ahead of some additional work coming up. It's been annoying that Goleby's stopped carrying this particular HKS filter for the 110, so now I need to keep them on order from Japan. I also took the opportunity to install a bash plate and number plate riser. The plate riser is such a cheap but nice fix to help really tidy up the car. I'm tempted to now also replace my headlights, on this car. Both items were from Project Aero.    I also needed to replace the rear tyres on the 110, and after trying to get it aligned learnt that I need to replace some bushes in the front end, so that's next.  Closing out this update with a nicer picture as always!
