Hi,

Just put EBC Greenstuffs and some new rotors and I am getting a massive squeal(loudest I've heard brakes squeal on a car) if I brake below about 15 km/h. This doesn't happen for a bit after braking from speed, or the first stop or two. It also didn't start happening till about 80km after I put the brakes in.

Should this be happening while the brakes bed in? In the instructions for the pads it indicates there may be a bit of noise for the first 500km but it should die down over this time. It has been doing this for 300km now and if anything today it was worse.

I have taken the car out and done the few stops that I usually do to bed in.

I know the steps to take to get rid of the squeal but I'm just wondering if there is any point until I'm past the 500km mark.

Did you machine your discs before putting the pads in or at least rough them surface up with some course 50 or 90 sandpaper ?

I put EBC greens in my car recently without doing anything to my discs because they are in great condition. Now, my breaks squeal a bit under light breaking until I get some heat into the discs, then it's all quiet. If they do start to squeal, I'll machine the discs.

In my 32, I used to get brake squeal everywhere except the track with Winmax, NISMO, Ultimates and Endless SSS pads ( had machined discs or new discs each time also ) so.........

I cleaned "everything" I could but still...........

I didn't install them because I didn't have time but I think that was the problem. After playing with the pads to try and stop them squealing with no avail I bought some stuff from CRC that you spray on the discs themselves to actually stop squeal. That worked so I guess the shop didn't machine them, next time I'm just gonna wait till I have time and do it myself.

Stuff you spray on the disc itself ? :P Thats a new one to me. Will be interested to see if the results last.

I tried the stop-squeal that you spray on the discs but it doesn't seem to have helped. Couldn't get to the inboard side of the rear discs because the heatshield goes all the way around, but I did the fronts both sides.

Yeh I'm pretty sceptical about it but the 'spray' wore off the rotors very quickly and just left a few lines where I guess there were imperfections. If these wear at the same rate as the rotor I can't see it being too bad.

I had the same squeel as well after fitting EBC greens and machined discs...its gone now...only happens occasionally when I reverse the car out of the garage early in the morning while its cold.

Hope you enjoy the brake dust that comes with it :D

    • Depending on how long the car sat it is very possible for injectors to be stuck open or closed, I'd get them cleaned and flow tested. Other than that, obviously when the loom changes and the car doesn't start any more....the loom is suspect so some tracing / comparing may be required
    • Harness is for a s1 Rb25det, and it is engine and lower harness.  the old harness had broken off plugs and was in very rough condition/exposed wires and splices etc. it is not able to be put back on the car, I could visually inspect to see if they had rewired any pins on the ecu plug. The fuel pump definitly isn’t turning off it’s an external pump and very loud you can hear it. Will look at the other harness tonight, am also going to pull the fuel rail and watch the injectors spray, will update here with what I find. Pretty sure at this point it has to be something to do with injectors because car will fire up on starting fluid and cas is clicking the Injectors. Fuel pressure is steady 43psi
    • Check the injectors flow evenly, and are actually flowing what you and the ECU think they should be flowing. If it's starting up on starter fluid, you have a fuel issue. Is it possible under cranking your fuel pump is turning off?   The harness you replaced, is that the whole engine harness? Do yourself a test, and drop the old harness on and plug it into the Z32 ECU. It's possible they've wired things different. From memory S1 to S2 is different in RB25 and you may have a wrong loom
    • I haven’t pulled the injectors to watch them spray yet but they are clicking from the cas and all of the spark plugs are wet with fuel. I’ve thought the cylinders were being flooded from the beginning and was hoping fuel pressure would fix it. Tonight I am going to pull the rail and watch the injectors spray. Don’t know how to test/diagnose if the plugs are firing in correct sequence but that should be a timing thing and as far as timing goes my car still has the half moon for the cas can only install it 1 way. And my mechanical timing is 100% correct I posted photos above. Confirmed with the balancer on and off.
