I agree with you there, It does start to get a bit pricy, by the time you throw on HPC coating and then have to get them fitted.

But hey, at least it isnt as much as the turbo guys have to pay for a better manifold and dump pipe, and as you can see from my dyno graph, they did make a fairly nice increase and made the engine sound nicer.

If you are serious about getting more power out of your NA, you cant go past the exhaust system.

Plus you might as well do it first and have it sounding so nice while you drive around.

Just an update on my system,

I got a hot dog put on today, as even tho that car sounded bloody fantstic, it was a bit much all the time.

So now it still sounds fantastic, but I can also live with it as my daily.

it still needs all 6 cylinders to get a correct reading, on a skyline it isnt to costly but on the xr6 it wouldnt even idle correctly (like the afm was blocked) then moved O2 sensor and it was ok :P

dont worry i will have a dyno on here soon after i get money because the thing that rhymes with smishsmorson is happening on thrusday and ill have money 2 weeks after that that i can spend on that :P

  • 2 weeks later...

hey guys its the Hesh here. Yes we went ahead with the uk coby group buy. took ages as i had to go off for an unplanned 4 month holiday in saddams old back yard.

anyhoo toolman, myself and two others on so.com purchased the coby d12s. cost finally to us was 216gbp a set all done including vat and handling charge in the country so not at all bad.

i hope to fit mine tomorow. interesting to read some of the coments on here regarding exhaust size. i recently had a mate whos handy with a welder do a bit of an experiment. he took a 3inch system from a 32 gtr welded a tube in the middle section behind the cat 9mins a 334door so a tad longer) and stuck on a trust end can .......man that was LOUD...but car was flat as apancake..drove it round for week like that then went back and he made a 3inch to 2.5 reducer and we fitted a twin exit calsonic back box from the shop floor.

revs up much better! so with the cobys bolted up tomorow i am really looking forward to seeing how she does...

    • List all of your mods. It sounds like an aftermarket ECU hitting rev limiter. Like a valet mode, or a cold rpm limiter?
    • @Kapr Haha yeah thats the one. I missed that you had a built up engine, I wouldn't want to run it on there either then. It was good in my situation just to replace the original turbo on a stock engine. @MBS206Yep definitely not a replacement for anything name brand
    • You are selling this? I have never bought something from marketplace...i dont know if i trust that enough. And the price is little bit "too" good...

    • It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about. Reliability of everything in a 34 drops MASSIVELY above the 300kw mark. Keeping everything going great at beyond that value will cost ten times the $. Clutches become shit, gearboxes (and engines/bottom ends) become consumable, traction becomes crap. The good news is looking legalish/actually being legal is slighly under the 300kw mark. I would make the assumption you want to ditch the stock plenum too and want to go a front facing unit of some description due to the cross flow. Do the bends on a return flow hurt? Not really. A couple of bends do make a difference but not nearly as much in a forced induction situation. Add 1psi of boost to overcome it. Nobody has ever gone and done a track session monitoring IAT then done a different session on a different intercooler and monitored IAT to see the difference here. All of the benefits here are likely in the "My engine is a forged consumable that I drive once a year because it needs a rebuild every year which takes 9 months of the year to complete" territory. It would be well worth deciding where you want to go and what you care about with this car.
