Sorry it's prob so easy for you guys but I don't know Nissans very well.

I would like to know if an RB24 (I'm Oz in Asia atm) long engine is basically directly interchangable with an Ozzie RB30. I am a mechanic and have done conversions before so little details don't bother me. Also what would be the guess of what 5 speed box would be behind it compared to the Oz version? If different box what about mounts and bulk?

My idea is I will be here for a while and would like to build a club racer here in my spare time, use the dead RB24 engine I found as a dummy then ship the rolling chassis back to Oz when I return and drop an RB 30 engine, hopefully, straight in.

gearbox should bolt straight up, i believe the smaller RB motors and the RB30E use a ~9.5" flywheel and clutch to suit, it was the RB30ET that had the 10" and skyline boxes wouldnt clear the clutch properly

i dont know if your asking what box to use or if yours will fit, but im gonna guess you've got an RB20 box which will fail quite early on if driven hard. i dont see any point in just swapping to an RB30 bottom end, and the RB20 head doesnt really flow all that much more than the RB30's SOHC, you'd probly be better off just bolting in the RB30 providing you can get the loom adn ecu, unless the laws over there wont let you

Well RB24, is a RB20 stroked.

RB30/RB20 interchangeable without much effort.

Actually, it's the other way around. The factory Nissan RB24S (supplied in malaysia and a few other contries) has the stroke of an RB20 and the bore of an RB25, so it's more likely a short stroke RB25.

I would guess being a more economical engine and having less power than an RB20DE it would probably utilise the RB20 gearbox.

When most people say RB24, they are usually referring to a modified RB20. But even bored out to 82mm (from standard 78mm) and using RB26 crank, you only end up with 2.3litres. All of the other RB engines have a bore of 86mm, so using the 20crank you end up with 2.4litres. Then the 25, 26 and 30 engines are just larger stroked and different heads.

I can't speak to how accurate it is, but I found this info on the rb24S on wiki a while ago

RB24S

This is a relatively unknown engine, as it was not produced for the Japanese domestic market. These were fitted to some left hand drive Nissan Cefiros exported from Japan new. Mechanically it is made from an RB30E head, RB25DE/DET block and RB20DE/DET crank with 34 mm height pistons. This engine used carburretors instead of the Nissan ECCS fuel injection system. It is able to rev harder than the RB25DE/DET (as it has the same stroke as the RB20DE/DET) as well as being almost the same displacement as the RB25DE/DET. A common modification is to fit a twin cam head from other RB series motors while retaining the carburreted set-up. The standard single cam form produced 141 PS @ 5000 rpm and 20.1 kgf·m (197 N·m) of torque @ 4400 rpm.

Yeah, we kind of already discussed that. That is what a true RB24 is.

Modifying an RB20 block using different stoke and bore combination results in volumes between 2.1 and 2.3 litres.

    • So sadly the fuel pump etc was not it. The pump and filter is new and it is still cutting around 4000 rpm. A read something about ABS/TCS (engine is from stagea and ECU too so no TCS) and i dont know for 100% that my car has ABS. It has ABS "cube" in engine bay but i dont think it works(or at least from my braking experience). Can be something like that?  I will be driving the car next week to Nistune tuner to properly see what is wrong...  
    • the Tomei LSD fluid with lsd kit. frustrated that it was shaking the car to crap and affecting everything else negatively, I pulled the diff last night, and removed the lsd carrier, could not find anything wrong, however it seem to be 100 locked up acceleration, and deacceleration, wondering if they sent me a 2 way not a 1.5??  either way I installed the stock open carrier back in place. test drove everything smooth as butter again. no shake, shutter, random, what felt like clutch slip and grab or drive shaft play, etc. something differently wrong in side the lsd. I might bother taking it apart (if possible) to figure out what's going on inside this carrier, as bought too long ago to return.  only draw back is its back to a one wheel wonder.
    • If there's oil in with the clutch, I hope it finds its way out even if that hole has a cover/grommet 😛 I don't want oil near my cars clutch! 😛 Interested to hear the answer about covering it, I'm assuming a bung for a gearbox from another car that has a grommet to suit.
