Hi,

Ive got an R32 gtst, and my climate control is ALWAYS blowing hot air. Ive removed all the air conditioning components during an engine conversion, so im just after a fix so that the climate control will blow ambient air. Its also worth mentioning that my ambient temp displays -30 degrees.

Im just about to go through the diagnostic test (found in the tutorial section by TO4GTR), and im almost certain that the sensor at the front of the car is to blame.

My question is: Where is the sensor at the front located? Ive done alot of work at the front of the car, and there are several plugs disconnected, so i dont know what im looking for. Pictures would be a massive help if anyone could take the time.

Im sure the sensor in the stereo surround is ok. Where are the other two sensors located?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Shaun.

this is the front AC temp sensor. if you have a front mount it would have been moved. i remember from when i put a front mount in my 32 that sensor what in the way. i cant remember exactly which side but from memory i think it was close to the bonnet latch.

i'm not to sure about the other sensors. i know one is in the cabin next to the ash tray, and i think the other is in the a/c lines somewhere.

I just had a look, and i definately dont have one of those sensors at the front of my car.

From memory, i think the sensor may have been on the bonnet latch support, but its been a long time. I not only have a front mount, but ive put twin thermos in front of the radiator, removed all air conditioning components, and have an aftermarket bonnet and latch support, so its been lost during those mods.

Does anyone have a pic of an r32 gtst external air temp sensor in the factory spot?

Also, if anyone has a spare sensor, im happy to buy it off you. Ill have to find one from somewhere, as i cant hack the hot air blowing all the time.

Thanks again,

Shaun.

I just looked in FAST and its supposed to be mounted up under the front bumper by the looks. Kind of up under the top of the main center intake duct. The FAST pic doesnt detail it too well so theres not much point in me uploading the pic. Have a look around that area and see what you can see.

As a temp fix, could you look up the output type of the sensor, and chuck a resistor on the pins, to simulate 210C maybe kinda?

EDIT: Checking the curve on the sensor, 210C looks to be about 2.65k Ohms.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
