Hey guys,

Maybe this has been covered before, but i couldnt find it through the search function.

Im a driver in New South Wales and was just wondering if you can receive a speeding infringment notice by being caught by a police radar.

Do they have to stop you on the spot? If there is a police unit set-up on the side of the road, does there have to be mention of a speed trap?

People are going to contest this but ill voice my thoughts.

Police HWP, Fitted with something to montior speed (someone will fill that word in, Lidar?) Often used to pull you over, I have u heard people being sent a fine in the mail (my fairly good friend lost his licence this way so its no bullshit, in his case he was traveling so fast they came to his house) I have heard people on this forum being sent the fine in the mail.

Speed guns - Often parked on the side of the road use similar technology used quite often in a speed trap. I.e police parked 1km down the road, your speed is monitored with the gun, sent down the road and you get your ass reamed down the road. I would assume as your licence plates are logged you could get your fine in the mail.

Fixed cameras = mail often about a month later.

Tripod - This is a tripod with new technology which reads plates, runs them through a data base and confirms if your out of rego etc, Im not sure if you could be caught speeding but from what I saw the other day in a school zone I would assume so.

To answer you question, no they dont have to stop you. This in mind there may be legalities if they do. I.E you can take it to court.

In regards to mention of speed trap the speed trap as I understand has to be set up withing the speeding signs e.g "speed cameras used in this area" fixed cameras require at least 3 "speed camera ahead" or similar signs. HWP require nothing, School zones require nothing.

FYI speed needs to be logged for 3 seconds, If you do speed (which I dont think is very smart) you can decrease your speed safely (thanks to big brakes) to avoid a fine.

sorry its late and i cant be bothered re reading lol

but for a copper trying to catch you speeding in a stationary position..(eg a gun or from the side of the car thing... i think its called an eagle or something like that) they have to have a sign up and if there is no fixed sign around,,,, they put up a portable 50cm X 100cm sign that says speed check in progress.... however if it is a marked police car they are shooting from they do not have to put the sign up to the best of my knowledge... only if they are away from the car (eg, shooting from around the corner or from behind another obstruction, they say they dont do it but we have all seen them hiding) or in an unmarked car that are usually a station wagon unit on country roads or those new highway patrol cars with the tiny radar on the side and you dont realise its highway patroll untill its too late.... for a moving read they can book you with or without signs....

also if pulled over by a copper dont be a smart ass,,,, or you'll prob endup having defects aswell as fine, loss of points and mabey suspension lol

thanks guys,

i went an checked the area i was worried about again, theres a "speed cameras used in this area" sign, but its after the stretch i thought i may have been speeding. hope there weren't any highway patrol cars around. there was no portable signage up last night as well.

just put on my SAU sticket on my rear quarter window :bunny:

Aren't they supposed to have their sirens on if they are checking for speed? Most don't though. I've seen some even standing facing the motorway front on in the middle of the split between an exit from the motorway and the motorway itself. Highly dangerous, as they don't have any lights on or anything.

No signs needed.

Signs are only used with Speed CAMERAS. Not any other speed enforcement such as lidar, radar, eyeometer, spit on the finger or grandmas birthdate.

Aren't they supposed to have their sirens on if they are checking for speed?

No.

Agreed, but I doubt that any of this would hold up in court.

Heard judge arguments like "Police officers deal with speeding vehicles on a day-to-day basis, so they will know whether you have been over the speedlimit and by how much".

I think Delonix are taking you for a ride (Nothing like seeking legal advise from a radar detector salesman). You do not have to be stopped. They can record the details, and then complete their inquiries later including speaking to you(They have up to 6 months to prosecute)

Yes HWP officera are trained and examined on their ability to estimate speeds. They are accepted by the courts to be experts, however any police officer can issue a sppseeding fine based on an estimation. It is up to them to prove to the court they have doen it correctly

To clarify, there are "owner onus offences" and "driver onus offences"

Owner onus offences are those detected by camera and they dont have to stop you. It is up to the owner to prove who was driving.

Driver onus offences are all the others. You can commit an offence, which may be witnessed by police or a member of the public. You dont have to be stopped at the scene to be issued a ticket. Police can, within a period of 6 months, determine who was the driver, speak to them and take action.

      What 1.5 way? There's no such thing really as a 1.5 way, just different ways of explaining 2 ways with different ramp rates. HOWEVER. In any driving in a straight line your 1.5 or 2 or 1.7 way should have no clunking at all. With the clutch fully depressed the diff should be silent (unless it's welded but I'm assuming it's not). Something aint right here.

      Clutch is a spec brand, new clutch system,( PP, flywheel, friction disc, etc. pull type) installed 100 miles ago, with no problems.

      looking for some help and maybe some insight on others experience with a new LSD. R34 GT ran and drove beautifully, but always alot of grip loss due to the open R200 rear end, so I just installed a new 1.5 LSD way into the stock open R200 for a ER34. Simple. Everything seemed right. I test drove for the first time this weekend. as I started to back out the garage the first time slowly with tires straight it sounded and felt like I had a loose or half disconnected drive shaft...that was clucking around loose and shaking entire vehicle, and making it feel like the trans clutch was spontaneously slipping then grabbing very roughly while just letting out pedal slowly. I backed it out went to pull forward with the same noise, shake and slip grab feeling with hesitation, I turned the tires to back out more and then pulled ahead some same thing but worst because of added wheel resistance (which that I expected) puzzled … pulling it back in checking everything over and finding nothing wrong, I tried it the next day. same thing, couldn’t believe how it shook everything again making a terrible noise and making it feel like the trans clutch was slipping and grabbing, but I got it out of garage into the driveway, got it straight, drove forward and then reveres a few times in a straight line everything shaking , causing what felt like clutch slip and grab every time, sounded like right behind front driver tire and I could feel it in the floor board with my feet,... worst right when beginning to let clutch pedal out to engage slightly, shuttering and sounding terrible along the way…I managed to slowly get down the road, babying it the whole way, once I was rolling (out of 1st) seemed to be better and between shifts, then clutch felt closer to normal…not slip/ grab etc., but back down to any stop, straight road or turning, same thing. Made no difference if all tires were straight or if I was turning. All other gauge read out correct. with in 2 miles as planned I reached the empty parking lot and performed the break in procedure that came with lsd, essentially to drive in a figure 8 a bunch.  Did this, binding chattering, and shaking the car the whole way. I drove it back home seemed somewhat normal once I was in straight line and past 10 mph or so, and I know it will “bind” on corners and cause some tires squeal when turning especially from a stop, but when I begin to move it still causes what feels like the trans clutch to slip and jerk badly as well as shaking the entire car, and sounds terrible, that I didn’t expect. I used the fluid they supplied with LSD kit and did the breaking, planning to change fluid as they suggest after breaking, but wondering will it get smoother or less aggressive with use? maybe a 1.5 is just too aggressive for normal road driving?   I have a LSD that I put in my 71 cuda when I restored it, with amazing smooth , quite yet effective results. Different style LSD but that ones a joy to drive. maybe expecting too much from this R200?
