yep, it's the same car.

kranker, the boys will confirm but I believe it was running sunoco fuel. which it turns out may not have been a benefit as it tends to go off once the drum is cracked open. you can visibly see, smell and feel the stuff is different after a while sitting.

There isn't a fuel that Sunoco make that is as poor as PULP. Don't kid yourself, dude.

d'oh. I must be blind. I'm trying to find the post where I said sunoco makes fuel that is worse than pulp? maybe I wrote that in invisible ink. read again what I posted. have you never heard of fuel going off? we have had this problem for years. and it makes for a tough choice. do you pay through the nose for a 20L drum and use it fresh. or save money, buy the 60L drum, but if you meetings are a few months apart you often find the last 20L you use is no good, to the point of the car not even running properly. it's not just sunoco fuel, we've had that problem with other race fuels too. as I said, once it goes off you can see, smell and feel the difference. so if you deny that you are the one kidding yourself...

Even Sunoco race gas that has 'gone off' will be a benefit ahead of PULP. It's at the top of this page if you wanna check back. Maybe the tune-up doesn't suit it once it's gone off but it's still a better fuel than PULP in all circumstances. Also, I would've thought this car goes through easily enough fuel to justify 205's of the stuff?!? If it's stored properly (tightly sealed containers in a dark, temperature controlled environment) there aren't any problems with contamination or 'going off'.

lol, fk me dead "Mr Sunoco". I'm not saying Russ's car was having any problems on the night with fuel, or flux capacitor or anything else. it certainly wouldn't have run as well as it did. You seem to be very defensive about that. so I'm sorry, reading my post I can understand why you may think I was making some excuse (though for what and why I have no idea?!) but I can see why you might think that. so I will state again, that's not the case, i'm sure on the night the car was sweet as a nut, the air was clean and pure and the fuel was fresh and tasty.

but telling me that fuel that has gone off is still better than pulp is just plain nonsense. doesn't matter what brand, sunoco, elf, vp, whatever. once it's gone mate it's only good for doing small arson jobs with. and yes of course if it's tightly sealed and stored correctly it will last a fair while. but sometimes people make mistakes, sometime the drums fuel comes in do not seal well once you've cracked open the factory seal. fuel gets carted around from meeting to meeting etc. I have personally had this problem. we have had it go off so bad the car would barely run at all. and in a pinch we had to just drain the tank and use some servo grade pulp and what do you know? the car ran much better, and even better again with fresh race fuel. wow, I didn't think I'd have to go to such effort to explain such a simple to understand comment.

anyway, if you still believe old gone off race fuel is better than pulp I may have some fuel for sale after I check the garage that you may be interested in! :D

Don't hurt yourself, Richard. :D Jeez. I'm hardly Mr Sunoco. I don't even use the stuff in my car. Maybe I read this wrong;

but I believe it was running sunoco fuel. which it turns out may not have been a benefit as it tends to go off once the drum is cracked open.

So either the race fuel was of benefit over PULP or it had gone off and the car ran like shit?!? Surely they wouldn't run race fuel without tuning for it? That'd just be dumb.

:D

Oh and as for tasty fuel, Sunoco's just wrong, mate!!! Everyone with any taste knows that C16 is where the flava's at!

lol, I admit the statement doesn't make much sense reading it back. :D they have had problems with the car not performing well on old fuel, but I don't think they had that problem that night. :D hope that clears up what I meant. sometimes I type like I am almost illiterate. brain faster than hands.

but I stand buy the fact that the old fuel isn't even fun to sniff.

for personal flavour I like avgas, it's cheap, they sell it at the track and cams give you a little book so you can buy some. I guess it's like VB vs asahi!

*note do not sniff race fuel, high in carcinogens...

    • As I've said elsewhere, I am using the stock intercooler piping path in the engine bay, and a return flow cooler, and making ~250 rwkW (without any effort put into trying to turn it up past there just yet) and expect to be able to make some more, and frankly, I would be perfectly happy with 260-270rwKW. This is peak road Skyline usability territory. You go past there and, sure, the car will snap necks more when it's on boost, but it will also break shit all the time, cost a (even larger) fortune in tyres, etc etc. Anyway, I also do not like the over-the-fan pipe path, and you don't have to do it.
    • I see, honestly I’m not too fussed about the looks. The only reason to go plenum is to make the piping easier instead of the classic over the rad etc.
    • Not easy to quantify wrt something like how many fractions of a second slower it would be over 0-100. But given that a 250-300rwkW car is able to do that launch sprint in 5-6 sec (and faster with appropriate tyres, and surface)..... giving up as much as a second would feel like torture. A ~450HP capable turbo is not going to make lots of boost in the 2000-3000 rpm range. So, whilst with some boost on hand it will be faster accelerating in that rev range than your engine currently is NA, it will not feel like a fast car until the boost is solidly in. You know what your car feels like right now when you open it up at 2000rpm. if you've ever been in an actual fast car, you will appreciate that the NARB25 is.... not exciting. Well, add some boost and it will be better. But shorten the intake runners and it might not be better at all. It might come out better, but it could end up feeling the same. For me, it's not the 0-X km/h sprints that matter. It is easy to fry the tyres with anything over 200 rwkW. You can't use all the power available in 1st and 2nd anyway, you have to modulate the throttle. What matters is how the car reacts when you're driving in traffic in 4th or 5th and have maybe 2000 rpm on board, and you want/need to add some speed quickly, and don't have time for the downshift. It won't make boost, it will be all NA (at the speeds we're talking about - remember how fast you're going at 2000 in 4th! and don't plan on breaking the limit by too much.) So giving away NA torque is not what I would consider practical for a street car. And retaining that NA torque builds boost faster which makes the car faster. The flashy plenum is not actually better, unless you're looking at a track car where you can keep it on the boil all the time.
    • So how much difference does it make you think? Like 1 second in the 0-100?  I was have smaller turbo so hopefully that spools quick GTX2871.  currently it’s NA so you can imagine pretty slow, but I do want fast accusation a little as there’s not many places I’ll be driving where I go over 80 even near me. So 0-60 and 0-80 targets
