Aloha from Hawaii.

I have a S1 RB25 swapped into a USDM 240SX(S-13). The car has been up and running (badly) for several months on a Z32 AFM. I recently purchased a S2 RB25 AFM hoping to return the car to stock and alleviate the tuning problems I've had.

I wired the sensor in as per Paul33's diagram, combining the 2 grounds and then proceeded to return the car to stock fuel pressure and timing. The car cranks and tries to start but will not, unplugging the AFM has no effect on this condition. I am 100% positive that the meter is wired correctly. I recieve output voltage of .4 with key on and .6-.7 during cranking... Are these normal voltage values or are they indicative of a specific problem? As I said the car ran off the Z32 AFM with elevated fuel pressure and advanced timing, however, boost is limited to 5psi (.3 bar) and AFR's are quite lean making driving the car no fun and potentially damaging. Any help would be much appreciated, as I've tested everything I can think of and have no solutions.

Thanks in advance.

out of curosity your running some sort of Air fuel controller with that maf ? the z32 maf will not work properly if u just wire it up, it needs voltage adjustment, thats where an air fuel controller comes into play

Yes, I am running one of the old 5 knob AFC's. The z32 required a lot of adjustment to run even as badly as it did, hence the reason I switched back to a stock meter.

I don't think the AFM is causing this and by the look of those return voltages you have it wired up correctly. I would hazard a guess and say that the poor afr's have since fouled the plugs up hence why it has difficulty starting.

Change or clean up the existing plugs, then switch the ECU over into diags and see if it throws up any error codes re AFM or otherwise. Should start with some replacement plugs but.

AFM bench tested bad. I hooked up power and ground and then blew air across the wire, the voltage stayed fixed at .56v

The guy I bought it from offered to exchange it so I guess I will send it back and put the Z32 back in. It will run crappy, but it will run until the other meter gets here. Thanks for the help, it's appreciated.

    • Drain it. I got official Matic D but you can get whatever is listed as Matic D compatible.
    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻
    • Nice car! I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
    • Should replace OR drop the tank, give it's good clean. Might be worth replacing that entire fuel level/pump/cradle thing with this: https://frenchysperformancegarage.com/products/fpg-s13-180sx-r32gtst-single-pump-hanger-kit-billet-hat-6-v3-fpg-089?gQT=2
