thats weird, maybe Ryan is right .. somehow !! LOL ... i think i'll just save up to get the HICAS lock bar and get my labourer Brendan

to fix it for me :) !!! and also go back to west side audio and ask them to have a look at my car again.

Before you play with anything else, do a hicas diagnostic. It will report what part of the system isn't working correctly and you can fix it, or at least find out why it is playing up.

It won't be your power steering fluid as you have a 33, 32's had hydraulic hicas mixed in with the power steering hydraulics, 33's have electrical hicas but the computer for the system still runs both hicas and power steering systems.

If search worked on here it would be easy to find, (diagnostic procedure that is) if you can't post up and i'll drag it out if I can find it.

hay guys.

ive got an r32gtr witht he same problem..... only started happening when we started running ova 500 hp.....

everymechanic ive seen says the same thing ... ummmm i dunno....

so im stuck... it gets pretty scarey when ur turning the wheel with power steering and then no power steering... and then power steering..... wtf???? any ideas.......

Lock it out, and remove all the lines. If you can, install a non-HICAS steering rack and get rid of it altogether.

What mechanics do you take it to? Do they have any experience with HICAS? I've called the RAC once when a cooler hose blew off my mates R34, and the guy had NO idea what an intercooler pipe was. Just proves that not all mechanics can fix certain issues.

120 for a lock bar from JPC in osborne park, i believe he still had one hanging on his wall last time i went down there.

3 Hours if you don't know where your starting from and you kind of just start at it, hour and a half if you get a mate to help whos done it before.

Best investment you'll make.

tried the hicas lock and got more problems........ hicas light comes on more than ever and i get inconsistant feel through my steering wheel..... got rid of it now the hicas light is gone..... inconsistant feel gone also..... but comes back after i give it a big boot fulll..... then ive gotta give it a big boot full to get rid of it again..............any ideas..would this have any relation to wheel sensors or powersteering solinoid or maybe power steer pump pully????

any ideas would be great...

    • How much have you lowered?  I had 350Z springs in the rear and was able to pull the camber into factory spec with the factory arms on the rear, obviously the front ran negative camber as it isn't adjustable, but rotating the wheels regularly evened out the wear.
    • Either the installer needs to come back, you need an auto electrician, or you need to learn automotive electricals yourself.   First step Id look at is where that big thing came out of, is there still things unplugged at that location? Maybe they just forgot to put a relay in or something?
    • Well, this is probably where a wiring diagram and a multimeter come into play.
    • I can say to anyone thats doing this; having done a number of R clusters; just be careful if its an unknown cluster.  It takes a bit of force to pull up; but if it feels excessive then its probably stuck. I've had this and pulled the entire hair spring out; and I can tell you; its not easy getting the correct spring replacement with the correct inner diameter and winding. In my case someone had used some sort of adhesive to stick it to the spindle and it pulled the whole spindle out; which the force seperated the hairspring from the spindal and caused it to deform.  You may have to clean it (IPA); or in my case if i'd known i should have used some sort of solvent on it.  Also check out Cruizin Central on eBay. He does all sorts of dials; and you can email him with any custom designs you want. So if you want like certain logos etc...he'll send you a mock of what it will look like then you accept the order and he'll take care of the rest. Fantastic dials and he can do basically any design you want.
    • Have you confirmed its the actual axles? Also the wheel bearings that mount on the hubs to hold the axles wear out. I replaced mine as they got play in them. It sorted my play issue.
