Well started doing it the drive home after I picked it up... Few times when I stopped at lights it'd just cut out so I'd have to restart it. Doesn't do it every time but idles a bit funny too like it's threatening to do it. Did it 4 times yesterday when I drove home :(

Also when I was driving to a friend's place I started losing boost/power and could hear a hissing noise... At the friend's place, I checked under the bonnet to see if I could work out wtf was going on. Found that a clamp was loose on the big air intake pipe on the right hand side (the one with twin turbo written on it) and the rubber hosey part coming off it was slipped down. Fixed that and tightened it and seemed to fix the probs breifly but happened again when driving home.

Checked the same spot and this time it looked fine... Getting it all checked by Autotech tomorrow to be safe and I haven't really driven it much since cause it's pretty embarrassing!!! Looks like I'm stalling all the time :(

I should add that I know it's quite possible that I have more than one problem here. Could be any number of things as to why its cutting out.

Air hissing and already 1 loose hose found likely to be caused by the person playing around in that area on Friday.

hi gtrkat, i have been following you're progress so far and u have all the goods motor wise. and with any build the headaches and dramas arrise when everything is put together and you're driving it for the first time.

from you're last post with the looose hose/pipe/clamp ' air-hissing' noise and it stalling, i'm sure u'd have to change you're spark plugs as they would be fouled by now, so factor that in when you go to talk to the electrician, and get him to re-emburse you for them.

just my 2 cents. good luck with the car, and hope to see it on the road soon, problem free :D

Hey Matey cheers for that. It was only driven a tiny amount before getting fixed. I'll get onto the guys at Autotech and get them to check it but it doesn't feel like they've been affected by this at all - I can tell you he will be paying for them if there's an issue though considering they're brand new!

Not yet but Greg is going to snap some for me before it goes :D

Autotech are also going to take some of it all fully assembled before it gets dropped back in.

I was just reading through and noticed there were no pics of the head so I attached some below. Someone asked what the weight differences of the pistons were, lightest was 366.9, heaviest 368.3, the pins were within .1g. Matching them up with the lightest piston on the heaviest rod small end I had to remove a max of .7 grams from some rods. The crank was balanced as well. The crank balance from Tomei is very good but you can get it a touch better. The kit fitted with no mods to the block or pistons. Overall the 2.8 is a really nice kit.

Kat, I saw the dyno graph from the initial tune the other day, very nice torque curve! Will be nice to see once everything is sorted completely.

Some pics of the head:

Cheers,

Greg.

how is yours going now Steve-O? what kind of response are the GT-RS's giving with the 30?

Mate its on the run in tune (got 400 more k's to go, ill do them quite fast) then swap ECU's and go for some decent boost. Its just the best combo on the big bottom end, wish i did it sooner and didnt waste time with the 2.6 block :D

Basically its got the response of the poxy little stock twins but way, WAY more torque and once the boost is there the power aswel.

Hey Greg cheers for that! I'm so happy with the car, words can't even describe!! Torque curve is great, its just such a different car now! (Should add that more pics are on facebook and my photobucket of the whole process)

Run in tune is done but still not doing anything terribly nasty to her just yet. Few things need to go still, in the not too distant future I'll be getting a metal cat and choosing another exhaust as mine both aren't up to scratch anymore. Will also have a new front mount but not sure when... Kinda letting our finances settle after such a large amount of work and Christmas all at once!

Much nicer to use setup than when you had the GT47 on there then?

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
