There seems to be a lot of misleading info here and on the net.

Which is the right way to mount the oil cooler ? With lines going from the top or the bottom ?

Some say that when you mount the oil cooler upside down you will have hard time bleeding the system and there would be some air trapped in the oil coller ? Is this correct ?

And full race seem to have mount them upside down.

Lets discuss !

My lines are at the bottom. Never had a problem, and on teardown of engine bearing shells were in good nick(70,000k and 400hp + atw) with oil cooler installed.

I've mounted mine on its side. Oil into the top fitting and out the bottom.

It also makes for easier draining of the cooler on oil changes

Same setup although I'm not 100% on the IN and OUT positions (i.e. top or bottom) don't think it matters considering the oil pressure, not like gravity will stop it.

my in and out are on the bottom.

No issue.

as stan said, with 4 bar plus oil pressure gravity doesn't stand a chance.

But! i'd have thought more people would be concerned with maintaining oil in the lines after the car is stopped to minimise the time it takes to build oil pressure on start up.

    • I used to do that, but then I got savvy. The benefits of having your phone photos geotagged outweigh the negatives. I just don't publish any photo straight off the phone/out of the gallery/off google photos, etc. If I'm going to use a photo, other than for SMSing to fam, I will always open it on the computer, copy it/otherwise edit it and save down without the original metadata, before using it. For example, posting photos of my engine bay into a thread on here, to show someone a plug or something - I will just screen-cap the section I want to use and paste that section direct from the clipboard into the post. No metadata goes along with.
    • Yes, so it won't work for places with no photos on the net. I would have said that there are no photos of the inside of my house on the net, but....then I realised that my kids' parties would have had bazzillions of photos of the living spaces, kitchen etc put on insta and other shitmedia. So... you can see how insidious it is.
    • Whomever is stalking me will need to deal with a few of these, so my safety is "assured"
    • It's not any meta data. They have scraped images from everywhere, and then use AI to compare your photo to other photos and work out where you are.
    • I just looked at my camera phone settings, apparently I have "not allowed" for location  Will that stop that app?
