iv got 3 sets of dual white neons that connect via ciggy lighter ports (surprises much). using them as ambient lighting to go in the footwells, down the centre console, and also under the front seats to illuminate the rear footwells. something subtle for classyness :P

dont really want to use the ciggy port as

A. it gets in the way

B. i have other plans for that power socket

C. it looks tacky

iv got a 3port ciggy power splitter i picked up with the lights, so i figure i can use that still, and have it all bundled near a alternate 12V power source within the car. where would you suggest i connect it to? like obviously the battery compartment or somewhere in the dash, but where? any good/bad spots.

cheers

personally i would cut the ciggie ports off the neons and hard wire them with a swtich..

(provided the ciggie port isnt a transformer for them or anything like that otherwise leave it and use the 3x ciggie port)

but you can hadwire the 3x ciggie port with a switch and then plug the neons into it...

either way i tapped my neons into my accesories wire from the fuse box ( i tracked it down from the ignition )

simply fuse and switch a wire from accessories wire to the pos of the neons and earth the earth to the body.

and then when ever you flick the switch hey presto illumination.... :)

Or alternatively you can tap into the power of the interior light the same way ( by traking the wire back down to an easy to get to location

then simply connect the power directly to the ciggie port/neons and earth to the body and when you open the door/boot hey presto illumination. :)

Its pretty simple.. i did the first option in my 33 with 4 neons lighting the footwells had no dramas in the 18 months they have been in.

Hope that helps and you can understand it :P

Corey.

hey corey, have you got a pic of what you did for option 1? like the fuse box. and did you use a seperate switch or does it just come on when you click it over to accesories?

sounds pretty neat otherwise :P just what i want

HI.

i dont have a pic handy soz ill try get 1 tomorrow arvy for you..

basically you find the accessories wire in your steering column by removing the cover and i used a test light and checked the wires

coming from the ignition barrel one at a time while turning the key to accesories and off each time until i found the one that turned on and off

with the key ( dont go past acc. or you could tap into a start up wire :D )

i just tapped into that wire and ran it with an inline fuse to a switch i put on the dash and then to the positive of my neons and the

negative form the neons went to the car body..

the reason i tapped the acc. instead of using any old 12v was so i couldn't accidently leave the neons on with the car off and key out :D

So even if i bump the switch on or something i wont have a dead battery in the morning becuase the car and neons are off :P

hope that made sense

Corey

Just out of interest dude i had a set of dash neons just put in with switch. Only issue is the neon globe on the drivers side is totally visible. The installer said there was no way around it as there are to many wires. What did you do and is there away around this?

Hey pattygtst

when i first mounted mine my neon was visible too.. :P

So after stuffing around with a few ideas the way i solved the problem was to mount it slightly up the plastic trim under the dash

(the bit under the steering column) and the glow aims at the foot pedals. the plastic stops you from seeing the neon.. you only

need to put it up there the width of the neon. just enough to get it out of sight..

there is plenty of room and minimal wires so i don't know what your installer was talking about there.. maybe he meant up above the pedals

or was lazy dunno.

the glow on mine is fine it lights up the whole foot well and it only starts to fade out abit just as it hits the seat so i was stoked :(

Ill try to get some pics up on sunday arvo or monday im not at home at the moment but the car is.

But until then I hope that helps

Corey

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
