tinkering with the idea of getting a new family car.

the muppet bus is gettting a bit cramped in the back seat for my growing family.

any ideas on a suitable replacement.

anyone driven a legnum?

they look nicer then the volvo, and around the same price.

or its the effort of getting a evo wagon over here and registered, which would cost lots more.

nicer car but lots of coin.

thoughts?

stagea

easy

come for a ride in mine at xmas time darren, the head will be done and tuned at ~230kw

very very snappy atm with 200kw, im sure the head work with cams and bigger throttle body will be pretty sweet

the stag is my family wagon, cant fit in a r33 so was always keen for the stagea being a nissan gtr fan.

so tuneable, heaps of parts, pretty much like your coupe but 100kw less =)

hell, the m35 stagea's are like plush millionaire's boats (but yet go ok, lol)

very nice for a bit of a upmarket look at budget price ~20k

stagea series 1 for 11k plus 19k mods = better than suby or evo

stagea series 2 for 14k plus 16k mods = beter than suby or evo (my opinion only)

legnum for 14k plus 16k mods = nice squirty wagon Im sure

evo, too much coin

suby, not much wagon space, stagea is a lot bigger

commy, know not much about them, but again a S1 or S2 stagea with mods will be nicer than a evo or commy or suby, and cheaper too

mine is 18k car and 18k mods, (come december head work) and wouldnt have it any other way

THE NEW HOLDEN WAGON LOOKS HOT gotta admit they are pretty nice for wagon =] lol

Sadly I have to agree, the new commo wagon look very nice! or if you have no budget get the Audi they were showing on 5th gear (not sure on the model but it was v10 twin turbo!)

What's your budget?

I'm fairly certain you'll be paying double for an EVO wagon what you would a Legnum or a Volvo (Stagea).

Also, what do you want out of it? Nice drive in close to stock form, OR do you want to mod it up like the muppet bus? IF mods are you cup of tea (and it seems they are) then a Stagea has far better aftermarket support.

BUT If you want a far better looking car, that drives nicer, then go the Legnum. 5sp tiptronic auto is much better for pickup than the 4sp for daily duties, and boost is pretty much on tap at 2500 revs to the 7,500 redline. Simple mods such as exhaust, FMIC, boost control, fuel pump and piggy back ECU (such as a haltec) will net you ~200 awkw, and a 13 sec 1/4.

If you want to go beyond this you're looking at new turbo's which require custom manifolds (not done in australia yet), new injectors, fuel pump etc. and full EMS as stock ECU would've pooped it trying to control bigger injectors etc.

So yeah, if you can live with 200awkw and spending only maybe $3k on top of purchase for that, then Legnum is for you :P

Oh, and dont forget that the Legnums also have the same AYC as the Evo V's in all pre-facelift models, and the Type S facelift models. AYC greatly improves handling in the hills etc (I often light up 3 AYC bars on the dash, hehe). Some auto models also have traction control and Active Stability control. Again, great features if the wife is driving, but I tend to turn of TCL when I'm driving :P

We bought the 260 for a family car... and i love it!

Thats what we bought the rex for!! Not bad family cars eh :P

Sadly I have to agree, the new commo wagon look very nice! or if you have no budget get the Audi they were showing on 5th gear (not sure on the model but it was v10 twin turbo!)

Have to agree, the new VE wagon looks the goods, so does alot of the current crop (300c) etc etc...If im right they had it on the british version of topgear as well and what a machine!! 570awhp or something in a 5 litre V10 twin turbo with ceramic brakes the works!!! YUM YUM!!!

STAGEA

I picked up a 1800 x 1200 mesh sheeting earlier this week and it fit no problems. Lets see any other family car do that and look good.

Hahah, I'd like to see a ladder strapped to a Stagea roof! That'd be the day.

yeah an electrician uses his stag as a daily ride

use rav4 side length racks, the stagea has 2 lon ways rack runners on the roof, works easy

    • Order for the 2025 model R35 GT-R were accepted from 3rd March and 26th August the last order rolled off the production line at the Tochigi plant. Concerning the R35 GT-R replacement, current Nissan CEO Ivan Espinosa said "Nothing has been decided about the GT-R at this time, but we are well aware that everyone is waiting. The GT-R will evolve and reappear in the future. Please be patient until that day comes." Nissan has a lot of issues with management and finances so take Espinosa's words with a big grain of salt. From what discussions I've had and read about here in Japan, not a lot of people are confident about Nissan's future, let alone the next GT-R.
    • Thanks. We getting some parts along too so he will be solving the speed issue like next week so i will let you know what he came up with.
    • 21 is explicitly the coils detected as the issue. Is it guaranteed the actual issue? No. Just the ECU thinks it is. When you say rattling, describe it better, get an audio clip as best you can if possible.
    • Yea got me coppers. Bad news is I just put them in and the car still has the light and shakes. I also noticed I hear like rattling coming from the exhaust piping right under me. Does 21 also have a possibility of being O2 sensors?   So, coil packs are good, the harness is good, the MAF is working, and obviously the spark plugs just replaced and working.
    • Make sure you drop the GTT base tune back in, and set your injectors again, this will remove anything playing up with it you may have removed. Possibly lean there as it's normally a fast transient going THROUGH atmospheric pressure, and a turbo motor would then quickly go richer as boost builds. The only worry you MIGHT have is ignition timing, as the DE is higher compression than the DET from memory. But again, you're not in boost, so the DE motor will be a lot more forgiving at atmospheric.   Get Murray, Kinkstahs, and Johnny's input on tuning haltechs, those guys have played with tuning enough in the past to be able to help now you're past the trouble shooting stage of the MAP issue
