Quick question for the hillclimb series...

Is the SVD class pretty competitive?

I've never heard of SVD (but I'm relatively new to this) - When I was racing the GTR, I was in SV and was under the impression that if I did too many mods, I would go into another class, I suspected Super Sedan, but never did any mods to find out.

If you were doing local club events, only 4wd cars go in SV i.e. EVO's. WRX's and GTR's and non 4wd like my GTST goes into Type 2 over 3001 (x1.7 for turbo).

I'll have to check what class you would be in for a state level, unless Neil knows???

Come down and warm up on our little track, bring Neil with you cos he has to look at the track before the state round next year and if you want to take this further, let the speed weekend be a warm up for Round 1 & 2 of the state round which is also at Bathurst on 7-8 March (a day each doing Esses and Mountain Straight).

You can register for the series on Neils link and nominate a number - I should be able to give you some hints on available numbers if you need help.

Last weekend at Bathurst was so much fun that I didn't want it to end.

Chubbs <-- sorry, but I love that nickname :D especially when its the pot calling the kettle black :P

I know this is a double post, but not sure which thread you are watching

I'm getting a formal response from the Chairman of NSW Hillclimb Championships for your category. His first initial thought was SV, but when I explained that they couldn't possibly "fairly" compete with 4wd Evos. WRX's and GTR's, he offered to investigate Improved Production and get back to me... keep watching this space.

Official results are up - There has been a change in 3rd position for the Outright Ladies, it appears that Pauline Graham is the correct 3rd place winner.

Okay Sweety,,,I'll bite,,2nd for me in a class I shouldn't be in is cool. I must have upset them running almost twice there weight and still getting 2nd. :P:bunny::bunny:

You finished 8th in your class that you should be in.:D:D

I think Nicole should have won the ladies award. :D:D:D...What the hell is a "Ladies Award Anyway???".

Those offical results show Howell first,,,Grumley 2nd and Westy 3rd,,,.Ha Ha,,,I just worked it out,,,those are Saturdays,,,post Sundays baby.

My paperwork shows Westy at a 21.73,,,Howell at 22.11 and Grumley at 22.33. ROFLMAO.

Now I just have to wait while you post rubbish back at me.

  • 4 weeks later...

Seems I have to go out early tomorrow and buy the mag or wake you up after dinner mate. Which would you prefer?.

Thanks for the pic tiger,,,You can be 1st for my autograph as long as I get one from Mrs Handley.

Have you ever noticed the background of my avatar,,,,sweet as.

Neil.

lol, I'm trying to get one from Mrs H too

But yes I need your autograph. I have a strict policy of only keeping signed copies of magazines. Episode 1 of tarmac magazine with Kel's Targa pic is in the pool room, so is that 2001 issue of ralph with Pete in the first media mention of drifting in Aus. And of course that wonderful pic of my car from wakefield in motorsport news :D About 3 seconds before the bearing spun lol

    • If you take the top half of the intake off you can unbolt the flap off the shaft and leave the shaft in there blocking the hole. Then you can remove the little vacuum canister off from under the manifold and get a spare vacuum line to run to the ECU. I can take some photos of it later. Probably best to get the vacuum source to the ECU sorted first though. Mine all worked mint with the base map from the GTT an I've pretty much let the closed loop sort the fueling and took 1 degree out of the whole timing map.
    • This IS something you also have to configure in Haltech (or at least I did in the past when going from onboard-to-ECU map sensor and an external MAP sensor in haltech land).
    • I'm hoping it's something as simple as the ECU is looking for an external MAP sensor, but he is trying to use the onboard MAP sensor.
    • You won't need to do that if your happy to learn to tune it yourself. You 100% do not need to do that. It is not part of the learning process. It's not like driving on track and 'finding the limit by stepping over the limit'. You should not ever accidently blow up an engine and you should have setup the ECU's engine protection to save you from yourself while you are learning anyway. Plenty of us have tuned their own cars, myself included. We still come here for advice/guidance/new ideas etc.  What have you been doing so far to learn how to tune?
    • Put the ECU's MAP line in your mouth. Blow as hard as you can. You should be able to see about 10 kPa, maybe 15 kPa positive pressure. Suck on it. You should be able to generate a decent vacuum to about the same level also. Note that this is only ~2 psi either way. If the MAP is reading -5 psi all the time, ignition on, engine running or not, driving around or not, then it is severely f**ked. Also, you SHOULD NOT BE DRIVING IT WITHOUT A LOAD REFERENCE. You will break the engine. Badly.
