Ok, I've got a HKS series III avc fitted and it works fine etc.

I took the car to a dyno and got all the figures etc

My car was peaking out at 15.7 psi boost according to the figures.

So if I tweak my avc up to say 2.5 bar [35psi approx.], does that mean it won't make any difference cos I top out at 15.7 [1.1 bar].

I don't understand, currently my low/high settings are 0.75/1.2 kg2/cm [which is close enough to 0.75/1.2bar]. But I could reset the HKS to anything really, from mild to wild.

Somebody know the answer????

Danny.

Thats a negative, 15.7psi at 105kph on the dyno. Dropped to 13.9 at 170kph. But still doesn't answer my original question.

Thanks for the reply though BOOSTD.

Maybe someone out there knows the answer.

The turbo WILL boost more if you adjust the boost controller! When you refer to "low and high" settings, it is either one or the other. So if you have it set on high.....15.7 is pretty close to 1.2bar. The EVC should be reset every time you perform a mod. I have found my HKS EVC4 needed to re-learn after every mod or the boost levels changed.

I don't get it, does this mean that my turbo will boost past 15.7psi, I thought 15.7psi was the limit. I can vary the boost, it has a knob I can turn on the HKS avc. But I've decided on the two settings for the High and Low switch. I can change this with the knob and /or reset the internal settings using the Mod switch any time [but probably won't].

But a turbo must have a finite boost limit, and then you buy a bigger/better one to go higher etc [realise that this is also dependant on injector, pump, exhaust sizes etc too].

They just revved it out on the dyno and gave me the sheet and graph, but I am assuming that they would have found the boost limits and applied them. They just said this is the boost and we've set yours to 0.7/1.2 and that will be safe for this car and setup. Surely they didn't arrive at this figure by chance.

I think I'm getting more confused as I go.........

    • Working through possible solutions of converting my mechanical speedo.    Anyone know what type of speedo sensor the factory r34 gtr getrag has ? what the output is ? I assume its not a VSS and more a voltage like earlier speedo sensors ? Can an ECU read it ?

    • I can get more photos of it here soon and I plan to make a thread detailing the process. I received the car this way and it sorely needs refinishing. That is probably the most appealing photo of it. Up close it is fading, cracked, and needs to be re-glued. Depending on their condition I'm on the fence between refinishing or making a new set.  Another angle hiding the pimples and razor pumps
    • According to this thread the RS4V with build plate RC40 comes with the R200 diff @ 4.083 ratio as well (mine has said RC40 denotation). We may need to check if the axle stubs are the same pattern as well. The auto subframes have longer axles. However I think yours being a later Series 2 as well, we should have the same bolt pattern for the diff stubs. Unless your upgraded rear also has upgraded axles. Either way, I would not be opposed to pulling the covers to check so I can inspect that  fancy rear core  Also I don't have HICAS. I don't believe that should change things but I hope the people here with heaps more experience than me can correct me if I'm wrong   Let me know if you want to attempt to make this work and I can get some pictures of mine from under the car.
    • It's not that straightforward. For example I have had this code because my ignitor/power transistor wires were unplugged. It knows something is wrong but has no idea what it means. If you want to actually diagnose this I recommend following the service manual flowchart for code 21. Ohm out the harness, coilpacks, inspect the ECU, etc. And again, it's entirely possible for there to be no problem at all but if you're running a different coilpack it'll trigger the code because it doesn't like what it sees.
