hey guys,

my car wont start (RB25det S1). Cranks, but doesnt fire up. Pulled out the spark plugs and they were all wet. Im getting no spark and i found that coil number 6 (closest to firewall) has slightly warped a bit from getting really hot. There is also charcoal around the spark plug and a bit in the valley cover (all at cylinder 6).

NOW. My understanding is that if 1 coil pack dies, the car should still light on 5 cylinders? Or because of the wiring, does it mean if the first one dies, the rest also fail?

My thoughts at the moment are that the ignitor has malfunctioned and over volted my coils? And im assuming in doing that its taken its own life at the same time.

thoughts please

cheers,

mike

I have had 1 coil pack fail, It ran rough but it still ran. I would check all the wiring to the ignitor and all the fuses. Next chech if it has spark at all, pull the spark plug out of cyl 1 and crank the engine over while earthing the tip of the plug onto the engine, check if there is spark. If there is then check fuel, if not then check more wires, maybe check the plug on the ECU is in properly. Appart from that some others on here might have an Idea.

Good luck.

Chris

    • Unless you're fortunate enough to buy a newer car, getting an older style plate to match your name/car is difficult because they've already been purchased.  Unlike other countries, personalised plates are locked to the country and not region, so there can't be multiple versions of the same plate but with a different area code.  Hope that helps
    • People use the numbers to make it look like letters to spell words/names, which is where the illegal spacing comes in. For example this GR Yaris

    • That's why I said it is a meaningless term. Because there is more than one meaning that people can apply to it. When we said "highflow", that is exactly what we mean, and exactly what is done. In a highflow, they take your housing and machine them out to take bigger wheels, have a better internal profile, etc etc, and fit a new core with the different/better/bigger wheels.
    • Oh sry i do not know if i used the term right. What i meant is upgrade the internals and keep the housing. That is not "hybrid"?
